Eaton DC, Washington D.C.

1201 K Street NW, Northwest, Washington, D.C., DC 20005, United States of America (show on map)

Eaton DC is far more than a place to sleep; it’s a self-described “radical experiment” in hospitality. Opened in 2018 by founder Katherine Lo, the hotel serves as a cultural hub for activists, artists, and changemakers. It functions as a platform for progressive causes, featuring its own live community radio station, a 50-person cinema, and rotating art exhibits that focus on social justice and local talent.

The interior design, led by Gachot Studios and AvroKO, reflects a thoughtful, curated aesthetic that prioritizes local storytelling over generic luxury. Guests will find record players with curated vinyl in their rooms and unique touches like natural hardwood floors and organic bedding. The hotel also serves as an incubator for creativity with “Eaton House,” a multi-floor coworking space that welcomes both local members and hotel guests.

What sets the property apart is its commitment to being a “third place” for the community. The ground floor is a bustling ecosystem featuring a coffee shop, a speakeasy called Allegory—which features a stunning mural of Ruby Bridges—and a rooftop music venue, Wild Days, which draws a lively crowd for DJs and comedy.

Located in downtown DC, it’s just a few blocks from the White House and within walking distance of the National Mall and the world-class Smithsonian museums. Whether you’re interested in political history or contemporary art, the hotel’s central position makes it an ideal base for diving into the heart of the nation’s capital.

Expert reviews

CN Traveler review:

“Eaton DC has the trappings of any cool city hotel: a botanical-heavy, Instagram-ready rooftop bar that slings strong cocktails and pan-Asian tacos; a wellness studio offering alternative therapies like reiki and crystal-healing; rooms (a staggering 209) curated with records and mini-libraries.”

Telegraph review:

“This stylish hotel with a social justice mission attracts hip young travellers with its artisan design features, new-age wellness programme, and quality drink and dining offerings. Retro furnishings, an impressive library, radio station, political art gallery and cinema add to the unique appeal of this bold concept.”

Nice boutiqe hotel with number of limitations / good location.

We liked staff - very helpful, great location, also design and bathroom.
Very nice lobby with kind of study / living space.
Cool having record player with vynil LP in the room

We have got King Study room - with city view which was supposed to be 32m2 - but - it was 10m2 less!!!!
My wife is an architect and measured it!
We were quite frustrated about that.
Air condition was VERY loud!
We payed for the room with the breakfast - which was nonsense - as we just got 15USD voucher to the diner in hotel - which was not enough for one meal and coffee.

Lovely stay in Downtown DC

I enjoyed how responsive staff was to the few needs I had. For example, I wanted to get ice for my cup at 12 am. While they didn’t have an ice maker, the front desk attendant made the effort to get me some. Additionally, it’s close to a few bus stops, a train station, and a few cafes and restaurants (it even has two connected to the hotel). Lastly, some staff are bilingual, which kinda shocked me in a good way.

My only “complaint” is the light situation in the rooms. In order to use the lights in the bathroom, you need to insert your key card in a slot close by.
This may be a more cost effective way to handle unused lights. But for me personally, I would rather a regular switch without the use of it. I called the front desk to ask about it and they gave me the skinny.

Easton DC is in a great location and quite comfortable.

I love the location, front staff are accommodating, and the style of Eaton DC is warm and inviting.

The cleaning of my room wasn’t consistent from day to day. I had a day when I didn’t get fresh mugs. Generally, the room looked clean and I’m happy for the service. I also experienced internet outage for several hours, which was inconvenient because I couldn’t work or watch TV, but I was given another option after asking the staff.

Hip and groovy happening place to call home for the weekend

Staff and service were excellent! Location was great and it felt like a cool & comfortable place to call home for the weekend.

The record player made up for the fact that the TV wasn't streaming, and low water pressure in the shower was a bit underwhelming, but truly a wonderful place and space <3

Great location for sightseeing

Quirky hotel. Handy for the Metro Center. Lots of restaurants nearby. Perfect for a brief solo, sightseeing trip to DC. Didn't bother with hotel breakfast voucher, but did have a very enjoyable breakfast in the Baker's Daughter cafe on the lower floor. Also had a cheese plate & cocktail in the attached bar. Pricey but relaxed and convenient.

Nothing. Ticked the boxes!

We loved the atmosphere

Excellent from all perspectives. Very friendly and supportive staff from both the reception and the bakery. The annexed valet parking is a very good choice if you come by car.

The parking is 67$/day. Very comfortable if you stay in the hotel, but quite expensive if compared to other parkings nearby.

Good value in a great location

Great location within walking distance to many of the tourist attractions. The hotel was also pretty quiet considering I went during peak blossom season.

The shower could have worked a bit better

Great stay and appreciate the dog friendly culture.

The hotel itself, eateries, room and staff were fantastic! Everyone was super welcoming to our pup that traveled with us. It was a bit of a walk to the main sites, but we knew that when booking and were fine with that.

The only downside to this hotel is the rooftop bar. There was security and a full crowd overfilling the lobby area every night to get up to the bar. I had to cut my way through people several times (with my dog) just to get back to my room. I'm sure the bar itself is very nice, but I wish the hotel was better catered to the guests who are actually paying to stay there, rather than to the bar crowd.

Always a wonderful time at the Eaton - I'll be back!

It's beautiful and intriguing and makes you want to explore. Also the Muslim gentleman who helped me with my things was an absolute pleasure. Very helpful, kind and respectful - thank you!

I enjoyed everything except for a particular bartender at Michelle's who was very unenthused. He was very uninviting even when asking about drinks. He seemed "over it" and it was only maybe 6pm. When I did not enjoy my oysters he did not offer anything different - just said "sorry you don't like them..." He's the reason I did not want to come back to the restaurant.

Nonetheless I enjoyed the hotel and may probably stay there in the future again.

Loved the hospitality of the staff and everyone who helped us. I loved the location of the hotel but I didn't love the size of the rooms, it was a bit short and tight for my wife and I who are both tall--me being 6'3 and my wife being 5'11.

The height and size of the rooms.

Comfortable stay in a nicely furnished room, at a reasonable price.

Great location for where I needed to be. Comfortable bed, nicely decorated room, clean/modern bathroom. Especially liked the table and small loveseat combo. A good place to work. Plenty of storage space. Small refrigerator a plus. Good sized TV. Books on shelves and record player a nice touch. Food at bar/restaurant better than expected.

Water pressure at sink a little too high.

Excellent location and cool hotel

Excellent location. Good sized room with plenty of storage. Friendly staff, nice lobby and fireplace area. Decent breakfast cafe

We had 30 dollars for breakfast included. If we went slightly over we were sometimes charged and sometimes not. This inconsistency was a bit annoying.

Great, with little room for improvement and would stay again in the future if price was the same.

Excellent location and great room. Within walking distance of most of downtown D.C. and a six minute walk from two metro stations. The window opened and that was a plus. Relaxed lighting was nice.

Parking was unclear as was bringing up our luggage. Was fine once figured out. No complimentary breakfast. If you don’t like barking dogs keep in mind you may hear some as they are pet friendly, but it didn’t bother me.

Nice hotel in retro style

The hotel is great, with a super convenient location, and the staff was very friendly. I really liked the style of the hotel—it has a charming character, though it feels a bit old and tired in some areas (the bathroom, in particular, could use some upkeep). Overall, it was a good stay.

However, my main concern was cleanliness. My room was quite dusty, with furniture (especially the bedside tables) covered in dust, which was unpleasant. Additionally, the bathtub wasn’t very clean—I noticed some hair left behind. While this wasn’t a deal-breaker for me, I do value cleanliness in the places I stay, and this did affect my overall satisfaction.

I’d recommend that management address this issue to ensure a better experience for future guests.

Cleaning should be better

Hotel with a nice vibe, recommended.

The hotel has a nice contemporary vibe with indeed a community feel to it. Room is simply nice; some mid century touches and space to move around.

The best part I found to be the bed: exceptionally comfortable while still supportive. Good shower the (basic) record player is a nice touch, and there was a cloth steamer.

Got to print in the co-workspace in the middle of the night, that was great. Friendly, helpfull
staff.

The hotel itself was well insulated however two remarks on noise: had to fix the warped window fixings as not to let too much street noise in, and a loudish in-room heater (not something to use at night).

Found the 300$ day-rate paid a bit steep for the room (maybe normal for being in Washington during a busy period, still seemingly better deals can be had when booking direct at the hotel).

Stylish hotel with friendly staff, close to attractions

The hotel craftsman decor was lovely. Staff upgraded us to a junior suite! So kind.coffee shop/bakery next door was away. Convenient location. Very safe walking area, close to the White House and mall

Missed having coffee in the room, but coffee downstairs was great.
