After the RCMP relocated their offices in the 1990s, the building underwent a major transformation to become a boutique hotel. One of its most famous features was a stunning, two-storey saltwater indoor pool, which was cleverly constructed in the building’s former basement—a space that once held the secure vault used by the police. The hotel was well-regarded for its spacious, loft-style suites and a rooftop hot tub that offered guests spectacular views of the city skyline.
The property was perfectly positioned for urban exploration, sitting just a short walk from the bustling Yonge-Dundas Square and the historic Allan Gardens. Its central location made it an easy starting point for visitors looking to reach major attractions like the CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, and the many theatres scattered throughout the downtown core.
It is worth noting that the site has undergone significant changes in recent years. Following redevelopment plans filed in 2019, the building began the demolition process in 2020 to make way for new high-rise residential construction. While the hotel no longer operates, its history as a secure government headquarters turned urban sanctuary remains a unique chapter in Toronto’s architectural story.
