The Hazelton Hotel, Toronto

118 Yorkville Ave, Toronto, ON M5R 1C2, Canada (show on map)

The Hazelton Hotel is a premier luxury destination located in the heart of Toronto’s fashionable Yorkville neighborhood. Opened in 2007, it earned its reputation as one of the city’s first true luxury boutique hotels. The building was designed by the architectural firm Page + Steele, while the stunning, dramatic interiors were crafted by the world-renowned design duo Yabu Pushelberg.

The property is heavily inspired by the glitz and glamour of 1940s Hollywood. With its sleek limestone and brick facade, it fits perfectly into the upscale surroundings of Yorkville. A unique feature of the hotel is its commitment to both privacy and prestige; it is the only low-rise hotel in the area and stands out for being the first in Canada to achieve a Forbes Five-Star rating as an independent boutique property.

Inside, guests can enjoy a high level of intimacy, with many rooms offering private Juliette balconies—a rarity for Toronto hotels. The hotel also boasts a private screening room, the Norman Jewison Cinema, which adds to its reputation as a magnet for film stars and celebrities, particularly during the annual Toronto International Film Festival.

Art plays a central role here, with a curated collection displayed throughout the halls and suites. For those looking to explore, you are just a short, pleasant walk from the Royal Ontario Museum. Its location in Yorkville also puts you within steps of the city’s best high-end boutiques, galleries, and sophisticated dining experiences.

Expert reviews

Lonely Planet review:

“Competitors in the luxury hotel class have in recent years made it harder for the Hazelton to uphold its self-professed reputation as Toronto’s most exclusive hotel: but try it will, and you’ll only benefit from its efforts. Sophisticated, dramatic and sexy.”

Fodors review:

“Stepping through a discrete check-in area, guests are personally ushered through plush hallways to palatial guest rooms with sumptuous furnishings, floor-to-ceiling windows, individual doorbells, and electronic housekeeping controls.”

Featured as Fodor’s Choice in Toronto.

Forbes review:

“The Hazelton Hotel is one of the finest boutique hotels in the city. Inspired by the grandeur of vintage Hollywood, the hotel’s lobby — with its stylish Gatsby-like gilded gold framing and ambient lighting — welcomes visitors looking for an elegant experience while visiting the city or locals looking for a sophisticated retreat within the city.”

Telegraph review:

“The welcoming and well-maintained Hazelton Hotel hits all the right luxury, service and style notes to make it popular with the international chic-seeking crowd. This popular favourite is anchored by Mark McEwan’s ONE Restaurant and ringed with one of the hottest patios in town.”

Great hotel but stop sneaky charges

Location and room size/comfort and cleanliness. Room maids were excellent

Resort fees, bill loading, at this price point should not be messing you about on milk to your room at 6 dollars for a coffee machine that's in your room, and telling you soft drinks are free with free wifi, when actually they are not with "resort fees". For us I would prefer a higher rate per night than the endless we think are customers are dumb fees at checkout. They then blame booking.com for not explaining extra fees in description, excuse me you wrote it.

Fabulous hotel with friendly service from doorman, room service and frontdesk. Everytime we come back, we feel warmly welcomed. Concierge service is prompt and attentive. They are top-notch.
We are happy with stay.

Food at room service was mediocre.

Sleepless in Toronto

Staff, Room, SPA

Location. Very busy street and lots of cars "racing" their engines on both Friday and Saturday evening/night plus a lot of people out smoking and partying outside Cibu. Impossible to sleep facing the street. Add insult to injury Hotel management decided to mend the pipes from 10 PM to 2 AM Sunday to Monday - mending pipes is noisy, regardless of which room you are staying at and no, it was not an acute reason, it was planned maintenance... Fun fact. I was credited 75 CAD for this, 75 CAD!

Booked the Four Seasons.

First class service, second rate location and management.

Hazelton staff made us feel welcomed; regret not staying another night.

The suite was fabulous. Loved the heated floor in the bathroom. Nice selection of coffees. Complimentary artisan chocolates were a nice touch. Appreciated turn down service and complimentary bottle of wine that was offered upon checking-in. All staff were courteous. Enjoyed a bottle of wine recommended by the sommelier in the lounge One Restaurant. Returned later in the evening for dinner. Meals were excellent. The hotel's location is near Casa Loma where we took in the Holiday Lights.

Only stayed one night and frankly everything was wonderful. No improvements to suggest.

A beautiful place for a relaxing getaway

Located right in Yorkville, it was perfect for exploring restaurants and shops nearby. Very convenient and is walking distance.

The lovely people at Hazelton exceeded my expectations. Always welcoming and friendly from the doorman to concierge - 10/10. The room was exceptionally clean all the time and bathroom was very spacious. There were always clean towels and fresh robes! Housekeeping kept everything clean and organized.

This was a wonderful experience at Hazelton and made my birthday weekend even more special.

Our first visit to Toronto was a delight, and we are looking forward to our next stay at the Hzltn.

The hotel experience was delightful, from the doormen to turn down service (complete with ice!),to the concierge,Ronaldo . Meals at ONE, were all outstanding. The whole neighborhood was lovely with many boutiques and restaurants. Transit & museums nearby. Our first Toronto visit, but not the last.

Room safe didn’t work. It wasn’t an issue though, we didn’t bring the Crown Jewels.
Construction noise in the early morning, but we had been duly forewarned of this issue.

Comfortable, tranquil, elegant, discreet with a wonderful welcome and location.

Lovely welcome from the moment of arrival. The Team knew my name straight away and did not forget. Made it a home. Michael was very welcoming and developed a great rappore. Room service was prompt and polite. Housekeeping immaculate. Gorgeous breakfast. The bathroom has to be one of the best. Treat yourself and sneak away here. So central, so discreet. A faboulous bed and bed linen, the pinnacle of comfort. Some really nice extra subtle touches - the Team who put so much creativity, thought and effort into this experience deserve all their rewards. Be proud.

Leaving.... .

A nice short city break in a luxury hotel.

The staff and manager are exceptional, there was a noise issue with another guest. This was dealt with quickly and politely. The reaction of the hotel staff was very impressive. The concierges Tony and Robert were so helpful as was the doorman Michael. The hotel is located in a very area of Toronto close to nice restaurants and shopping.

Nothing other than the noisy guest.

They made our stay unforgettable. Real attention to detail. Great location and restaurant.

Impeccable service and location. Beautiful rooms. Easy valet parking.

Breakfast a little expensive if you prefer small continental style breakfast. Lots of great coffee places around the hotel.

In short, we loved the stay, and sure will come back again

The place is expensive, but is definitely worth it. The best part of the stay, STAFF - the most polite, friendly and helpful staff I have encountered, and I have stayed at many up market hotels / resorts.

Every staff greeted my 4-year-old well, she got plenty of toys to play with. The trips arranged by the hotel were fabulous.

Room always clean after house keeping visit, corridors were always tidy and fresh. The food at One Restaurant is really expensive, but I dont think people will get cheaper food in close proximity. Even uber eat can be expensive. However, fish course such as Salmon & Scallops were delicious.

We did have issue with child bed on 1st day of our arrival but it was sorted pretty quickly

Matches with 5 star Forbes status!

Practically everything was exceptional for our first time to Toronto!

Housekeeping was sometimes inconsistent; ie we only had one light cleaning Thursday (8/17) with no night/turndown service. But that’s a minor nitpick.

Nice hotel, but a bit noisy.

The staff were wonderful, as was the pool and the other facilities at the hotel. The restaurant was great too, and I really liked the 24-hour room service option.

I stayed over the weekend (on the second floor) and there was a lot of street noise at times, which is a shame given the cost of the hotel and its location.
