Ace Hotel, Sydney

Absolutely loved our stay! The atmosphere was effortlessly cool and welcoming. The record player in the room was such a fun touch — we spent hours listening to a great mix of vinyls. The bedding was incredibly comfortable, made of natural fabrics that felt fresh and cozy. Every detail made the stay feel thoughtful and unique. Can’t wait to come back!

Honestly, when the checkout survey asked what I didn’t like, nothing came to mind. Can’t wait to stay here again!

Lighting was very dark in bathroom!

Location is perfect, love being on the edge of the city and close to Surry Hills restaurants. Quiet and easy to walk everywhere. Funky industrial aesthetic. Beds were comfy. Happy hour cocktail in downstairs lounge was delicious!

Our room was not made up on the second day, housekeeping arrived at 4.30pm and we’d arrived back in room to get ready to go out again so that was disappointing. The roof top bar being closed on Sunday night was annoying. No parking. Carpet was fraying near tiles. Didn’t love the blankets as bed covers.

Check-in is easy, the rooms are well maintained and comfortable. While some can be on the smaller side, for a little extra cost, you can enjoy much larger and more comfortable rooms. There are three options for dining, from the fancier Kiln to the casual Loam or, for a quick daytime coffee, an excellent cafe. I’ve never used the bar on the ground level, but it has a nice buzz of an evening. Location wise, it’s on the fringe of downtown and adjacent to vibrant Surry Hills. It’s a great spot.

I had to rush to check out and it took longer than usual at a peak period.

Really fun hotel. Lots of luscious textural layering throughout the hotel. Excellent mini bar choices. Lovely high ceilings in the rooms. Good dining options.

Immaculately clean. Beautiful decor and such vibrant lively fun surroundings! The downstairs bar was full and inviting, incredible martini and views from the roof.

My bedroom door would make a lot of noise. I wedged a flannel in it to stop it moving.

Location and room size

Room wasn’t cleaned until 7pm one night and 6pm another. Level of clean wasn’t great either - dirty towels left behind and cleaning cloths also left in the room.

Location was perfect

The floor of the room was very dirty with dust balls on the entrance and on the skirting board. This should be cleaned properly before new guests.

Great style. Very aesthetic, and super clean. Staff were extremely helpful. Great location, convenience store a short walk down the street.

No parking available on site, had to park in a seperate building and walk, made difficult with multiple bags

Love the concept of the hotel. The restaurant and bar are nice. Good food, but I couldn’t leave this review without mentioning the staff. They were amazing, friendly, polite. Highly recommend

The hotel is very stylish and has a cool atmosphere, love every little details in the room. The restaurants and bar are all very nice too and the food and cocktails are to the expected standard. The stuff is all very friendly

Few minor things can be improved like there is no light on the closet (and it really needs one), and after cleaning the room they would not replace things like coffe or tea bags so we had to ask the reception for more.

Location was great, within easy walking distance to the Sydney art gallery, botanic gardens and harbour. Absolutely loved how quiet the room was, a huge plus for a light sleeper. Pillows were also fantastic and not gigantic firm abominations as some hotels tend to go for looks and not comfort. Very much appreciated the ability to leave our bags there as we waited for check in. The bar in the hotel on ground level had a great range of tequilas. Also its proximity to a hidden gem of a coffee/muffin place tucked behind the AFP building.

It was super peculiar, we had a male knock on our door and say 'House keeping' in the late afternoon and try to open the door - it sounded like they had a card that worked. Eeek! We said we didn't want anything and they didn't come in and left. We didn't hear any other rooms being asked for housekeeping.

Very well located and the hotels great bar and restaurant was appreciated. Warm welcome with friendly staff whom were very helpful. Room was super well decorated with a comfortable bed and very quiet.,very clean and serviced every day.

The area wasn’t fabulous but very easy to get around

Stylish hotel with a number of places within the hotel to grab some food and get a drink. The rooms were modern, comfy and cleaned daily. Location good for exploring many areas and close to main train and bus station. I was able to check in early after arriving on an early morning flight.

There wasn’t any complimentary water in the room. There were cans of water and soft drinks in the mini bar but the mini bar items were also not topped up again during my stay.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Ace Hotel. It’s a groovy little spot in Surry Hills, perfectly located near Central Station with great transport links. The funky downstairs bar and restaurant had a great vibe and quickly became our go-to hangout. Our room was clean and comfortable — though the placement of the vanity was a bit quirky! Overall, we loved the atmosphere and would happily stay again next time we’re in Sydney.

Such a perfectly chill hotel, late check out is so appreciated.

Excellent breakfast and really enjoyed Kiln for dinner.

The service was a bit lacking in polish but it wasn't a big deal eg breakfast team forgot to tell us about menu specials or, on another day, remembered but did not describe them well. Reception staff did not read our request for advice and sent us to see something they would like rather than what we liked... these are training issues.

The staff were brilliant thanks for the stay. Location was great too

The door to the toilet does not go all the way to the ceiling, which means poop smells escapes into the main room. Similar big gap at top of shower cubicle means cold air comes in. These are big gaps, about 40cm.

Location - close to a lot of great cafes and restaurants. The room was furnished beautifully. Bed super comfy and easy check in and check out! Mini bar offering and options was superb.

Hotel had such a good vibe. Around a 10 minute walk from Central Station Bed was comfy Landed late morning and got to the hotel for Mid day, was able to check in early. Receptionist was very friendly Lovely bar area. Bed was comfy.

Nothing, the only thing I would note is that if you are traveling with a friend there is no separation between the bathroom and the bed.

The unique touches of the interior design

This was my second stay at Ace Sydney and it really does make for a nice 'home away from home'. The rooms are well set up, super comfy and cosy, and all with pretty good views of either the city or Surrey Hills. The dressing gowns provided are super nice and luxurious too. Lots of options for eating inc. a great room service menu, a healthy selection of options from the main restaurant, the fancy dining on the top floor and the coffee shop too. Gym facilities also well maintained and everything you need in there for a good workout.

The only thing I experienced this time was some building noise from the top floor. We were notified of it though and it didn't cause too much disruption to my stay.

Outstanding view from our room and fabulous bar downstairs and amazing restaurant up top. But most of all the staff is so welcoming from the restaurants to check into the bar. Just a wonderful vibe to this place. Nothing pretentious, just warm lovely stay. The Florida ceiling windows in our bedroom were just stunning.

The lighting in the bathroom and shower was really dim and hard to work with.

Only thing is the bathrooms in the rooms. You can hear everything! Would be great to seal the doors so you can pee and poo in peace.

Very central location which is ideal. Comfortable, slightly quirky rooms with lots of little details that were fun to discover. Staff are amazing. Bar and cafe downstairs quite good.
