Château Laurier Fairmont Hotel, Ottawa

The hotel is beautiful, the room was huge and comfortable. We didn't try the breakfast because of the price. Zoe's lounge was stunning and great service.

Our check-in was not satisfactory. We arrived an hour before the 4pm check-in and was told our room wasn't ready but they would put a rush on it. We then sat in the lobby until 4:15 with no contact from the front desk. We went up to inquire with a different person and he was very apologetic and got us a room right away.

Like - location, service, staff, food and drinks, ambience Dislike - room was dated such as the shower.

The pool has a lot of old world character but the temperature was not very warm, changing facilities were basic. Too bad there is no hot tub or sauna.

The room with a view looked over the Parliament buildings and bridge to Quebec. Corner King Deluxe room very spacious with a great bed, living room area, large closet and lots of big windows. Staff was accommodating to extend the late checkout. Door Man was wonderful and so was the valet staff. The lobby bar staff were great too. The building itself is iconic and absolutely stunning. I wish we could see more, stay longer than one night, and explore the gorgeous Chateau Laurier Hotel.

The bathroom was outdated with a glass shelf that was sloped down towards the front - a fear and worry that things would slide off, or it may fall off. The bathroom definitely could use a refresh. The body soap dispenser in the shower was empty. I reported it to the front desk on check out and she was very apologetic and was gong to report to the manager. The rooms windows very very bright through the night so take care to draw the blackout blinds before bed...we did not realize until the next day that there were blinds behind the curtains. Parking is non existent so use valet parking but be prepared...$64!!!!!!!! but worth it.

Room was excellent, everything worked well. Elegant and functional. Even windows opened a little for a few minutes of fresh air (expected sealed windows). Our room had an elegant turret area, set up with a desk and chair. Reading lamps over bed actually worked.

No night table on one side of the bed. PARKING! This was cited frequently as an issue, and I would agree. Line ups at valet loading / unloading area and wait times to receive vehicle are definitely an issue: We were there during a slower period (late February), I can imagine it's a real big issue during peak times.

Great location and friendly staff

We were in a room that provided a city view on the first floor. The lights from the Hotel were directly outside the window and incredibly bright. There were no black out shades. And the room was very bright (almost fully lit) at night. I requested for a room change, the concierge said a hotel staff member would show how to use the curtains to block the light. No one ever came, and the curtains are decorative, and do not block the light

Location and food were both great

We were in room 134 - there is a streetlight right outside the window on the right that meant the room wasn’t dark and my son and I had trouble sleeping. Lobby is a bit dark and dated.

Beautiful historic property with tons of things to look at, right next to the parliament building

Parking was a mess, we were expecting to pay $60 a day for valet but when we arrived the line of cars was down the street and around the corner. By the time we made our way to the front (30 mins later) were told the parking was full and were told To go park at the mall. By the time we found mall parking and walked back to the hotel, it had been over an hour since we first arrived and we only had 30 minutes to get ready for our event. Mall parking was cheaper and on the future I wouldn’t mind parking there it was just stressful trying to figure out in the moment.

The valet service was awful. They brought us two cars that weren’t ours and the wait was long.

It was a lovely hotel. We enjoyed exploring by the history of it.

The beds were very uncomfortable to sleep in. We woke up each day with aching backs.

The hower in the second bathroom did not have water flow but we really only need one!

Room was fine but heaters/air conditioners were noisy.

Having to pay for internet. Fairmont is the only 4-5 star hotel that I have stayed at in recent years that charges for internet access. Not good for business travelers. Bathroom needs updating. Bath tub is old and too shallow.

Cleanliness could be better, bathroom with no vent and old (but clean), old fashioned TV with pay per view with no modern apps and no connectivity, no spa/sauna/steam room

Stunning property, excellent location, very spacious comfortable rooms.

Valet parking can take a very long time when it’s busy.

Very central location, close to everything including the Parliament, restaurants and Rideau Cana.

Staff were rude and concierge did not know much to give us a good experience and direction.

The bartender at Zoe’s was exceptional. Kind. Courteous. Helpful. Attentive. Organized. Facilitated a vegan meal request with the chef for me. I found him exceptional. Thanks Roman !!! Special thanks to the chef on duty on Saturday January 26 who went off script to arrange and make a delicious vegan meal for me on request. It was amazing.

I found the bed linen very scratchy. Honestly Weston beds are better and without a doubt the bedding is far better.

Too busy, too expensive, couldn’t even get breakfast because didn’t have reservation. No real view and we paid extra for a deluxe room.

Strong smell of paint in our room during the day. We had to leave because it was giving us a headache. We told the front desk, but I guess nothing could be done.

The room was very small but comfortable

We were supposed to have a queen bed. The bed was very small. We were also supposed to have a shower and not a bathtub.

Proximity to everything.

Bed was too soft and the valet parking at checkout. Took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get our car and we had to complain to get it. The hotel lobby was full of people waiting for their cars.

The castle effect and the location

The rooms are definitely not at a 5 stars hotel, but more as a 3 stars. The soundproofing is bad, they could just change the door to improve it, but the wall remain thin. The bathroom is also bad and old. And the room was not particularly clean. Definitely not a 5 stars hotel or even 4.

The room was great and the view of the Parliament in the evening was lovely.

Location is excellent , restaurants can be avoided but hotel is great specially a bangladeshi person transferring luggage , valet can be more polite but overall experience was great , restaurants are very near to the hotel

in house restuarants were not good , valet service is not upto the mark i feel outsiders coming to hotel all day is also a issue for in house hotel guest as this is kind of museum as it as bulit in 1912

I was very upset with the pool area! No hot tub or sauna.

It is a beautiful hotel, full of history and beautiful architectural details! The staff is very friendly and professional. The room was well-appointed and clean. The decorations for Christmas were exceptional.

The room was very small for the price, but it was the holidays, so this is not unexpected. We were surprised to be able to hear the sound of our neighbour coughing through the wall - it felt like he was in the room with us at times! Dinner in the restaurant and drinks in the lounge were steep, but breakfast was a fair price.

The location is absolutely great.

The staff at checkout messed up my bills, overcharged me - eventually refunded, and weren’t able to work their payment systems.

The atmosphere and grandeur was amazing. The coffee shop take out was great

the Wifi and TV was terrible - sketchy - in and out Zoe's had a great view of the train station and lights The food at Zoe was unacceptable. The Foie Gras was definitely not fresh, barely spreadable and had little taste. A big disappointment at $42. The onion soup was not acceptable, luke warm, tasteless broth and the melted cheese on top was not Gruyere. The service and view was outstanding.

The hotel's location is very convenient because we were going to visit Parliament Hill the next day, and it only took 7-8 minutes to walk there. It was also very convenient to go to the nearby Mall. There was a strong Christmas atmosphere in the hotel, with various Christmas trees.

The employees were exceptionally friendly and helpful. We felt very welcome!

Luxurious, and you can feel the difference from other top chains hotels. Gold lounge is great. Breakfast is good. Staff were the best. Location is perfect.

Parking is a bit expensive, $60.

The location is unbeatable, it's in the middle of the historic center with a walking distance to the parliament, museum of history, mint and national gallery.

The facilities could use some improvement. The bottle of hair conditioner was empty, and the shower had issues: only the waterfall shower functioned properly, while the handheld one did not. While these are minor inconveniences, they are unexpected for a hotel of this standard.
