Château Laurier Fairmont Hotel, Ottawa
Expert reviews
“Château Laurier, now run by the Fairmont group, has for more than a century offered luxury accommodations in the heart of the city, just next door to Parliament and the Rideau Canal. Soaring turrets, Tiffany windows and grand ballrooms reflect its heritage as one of Canada’s grand railway hotels.”
Shortlisted in New York Times’ 36 Hours in Ottawa.
“By the Ottawa Locks, the city’s best-known hotel is a landmark in its own right. Built in 1912 to resemble a 16th-century French château, its 426 rooms and suites are predictably large and luxurious.”
“Named after Canada’s seventh prime minister Wilfrid Laurier, Fairmont Château Laurier has dominated the Ottawa skyline since opening in 1912. Its elegant corridors and grand ballrooms witness countless international events and celebrity guests, and the hotel is almost as recognisable as its neighbour, Parliament Hill.”

Fabulous
First and foremost, the staff was the best part. But pretty much everything else was also wonderful. Made me wish I was staying in Ottawa more than one night.
The only downside was the low shower water pressure.

Very good
The location was perfect exactly next to parliament and Rideau Mall
The hotel was so crowded due to different events and walk in guests for restaurants. In addition we tried the afternoon tea for 73$ the quality of the food was so low.

Overall a good stay. We love staying at the Fairmonts!
The buffet breakfast was superb! Thank you
The hotel pool did not meet our expectations! The pool water on the Friday night was very cold. Wasnt a good experience for out 2year old grandson😥 The wait times for our car was double the time! We mentioned to the dest clerk and she canceled the cost for 1 night only.

Perfect weekend in a perfect location
The location is perfect - downtown within walking distance of several museums, the Rideau Centre, Byward Market, Sparks Street and more. The breakfast is fantastic and the building itself is old world charm.

Excellent Hotel!
It was wonderful. The rooms were big and well appointed. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very nice.
The parking arrangements weren’t satisfactory. There weren’t enough valets. And though they were very polite, they took a long time getting our car on all occasions.

Very disappointing.
Our room was #670 after I complained about another room on this floor. It was a silly room touted as a junior suite but poorly designed with a small queen bed in a separate but open space. There was a dining table in the middle of the suite part of the room. Who needs a dining table for one night? They said it had a city view! Two small windows looked out mostly on the windows of another building. The bathroom was tiny with no room for placing toiletries and a shower in a small bathtub with a flimsy old-fashioned shower curtain that sticks to one's body frequently. I started going to Chateau Laurier at age 12 and over the years have always stayed there when in Ottawa, but the last few times it certainly doesn't measure up. The common areas are still grand and quite lovely, but the rooms leave a lot to be desired, unfortunately. It will be a while before I go back.
See above.

Lovely but a bit tired grand lady of hotels
Staff were very polite and friendly. It is centrally located with a lovely park behind it. It is a grand dame of a hotel - very stately but some may say old fashioned - but lovely arches, beautiful marble, high ceilings. Rooms are large.
While stately, it needs a little TLC - chips in the bathtub, exposed screw on vanity, crack in wallpaper. Given the price point, one could expect some more investment. While very central, it is quite chaotic at the entrance as there is always a ton of traffic, there is not a lot of space to drop off etc. Valet parking at $60 is dear although valets were all super nice!

Like a fairytale with stunning views
Ease of valet parking, the comfy bed, easy check in, text message welcome and the views were incredible from the queen room. Like a fairytale.
The staff knowledge. I asked staff by the concierge what time the pool opened and was told 7am, they then asked check in who said 630am, when I double checked downstairs at the pool reception they said 630am. But I read somewhere else it was 6am. In the end I didn't bother using it.

Great stay
Everything except the Valet
The valet requested our guest to go to an ATM machine to get cash for a “mandatory cash tip”. Prior to my guests arrival, I had asked at the desk how my guest was to park and I was told that they could put the parking charge on my room. Why anyone would require a “mandatory tip” rather than a parking fee.

Lovely location.. really enjoyed chilling in the sun on La terrasse
Superb location next to rideau canal and opposite parliament building. Close to numerous restaurants. Staff were very helpful and easily managed to book us fir an extra night
Considering only parking option was valet parking $53 dollars a night was a bit steep I contacted the hotel in advance to make sure I booked a room with a walk in shower. Although they booked us an accessible room it was quite small and not much room to walk about. Totally unable to use swimming pool as completed inaccessible due to amount of stairs down to pool and no way of getting in or out of pool. No separate and gender neutral disabled toilet facilities so husband had to struggle on his own

Short but nice!
The location is superb. The staff were friendly and efficient. We like the Fairmonts as they are pet friendly. This time we stayed in a more renovated room which was nice - carpet was newer/cleaner and the bathroom refreshed (although quite small). Overall lovely property with great park out back.
Even though the room was renovated, the bathroom is already showing signs of wear/tear. Not a big deal but for a prestigious property like the Chateau Laurier you have high expectations!
