Swiss Hotel, Ottawa

Location is convenient to go nearby downtown areas.

Parking was not free. They charge for $20 per night even though they mention parking available on their website. The room is very small compared to other three star hotels. You barely fit in the shower room. Even though the location is good to walk everywhere, there are unhoused people around ; not that safe to walk out.

Super clean, economically comfortable room and quiet location despite being a few blocks from the main nightlife area. Excellent block out blinds. Best shower ever - very hot and powerful water pressure. The owner is a lovely friendly Swiss lady.

A lot of homeless people and recreational cannabis users around the surrounding streets.

The staff were nice. The room was great.

The location is good but area is a bit sketchy. I wouldn't feel comfortable walking around there late a night.

Instantly felt welcomed by the owner who was lovely and gave me some tips for the area. The room was perfect for the night I stayed and the bed was very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.

The room was small by North American standards. It is called the Swiss Hotel and it reminds of a smallish Swiss hotel room. There are many people in dire straits wandering the streets nearby. That is because of two nearby homeless shelters.

It is value for money. This hotel is clean and comfortable and well located, close to Rideau Street, the Market and the big sights in Ottawa. There are no bells and whistles, just a very clean, comfortable room, along the line of European hotels. The bathroom was small but fine with lots of places to put your belongings. Good towels!

Too many homeless crackheads around. Heard screaming throughout the night. Didn't feel safe. Bed was very uncomfortable. We both left with a backache. No fridge in room. Very small room. Very small shower. Why is coffee only complimentary from 8 to 10am. Very strange.

Very clean and cost-effective accommodations in the centre of Ottawa. The owner was very helpful and nice. I selected the smallest room, which was indeed on the small side but perfect for a solo one-night stay. I appreciated both Nespresso and a tea kettle in the room.

The hotel is spotless, and very well maintained, with nice plants in the staircase, and a very nice entrance. From the moment you enter, you are heated by a huge base of flowers, the reception is in the basement, one level down, and the rooms occupy three levels. Spotless white is the dominant theme, when you reach the third floor, you are greeted with green plants over the railing, and it is really beautiful. You will not be able to find a speck of dust on the staircase or the rooms. The whole building is old but in great shape. The rooms are on the small side, but again spotless, you can literally eat off the floor, the rooms are simple but well furnished, with bright white sheets and duvet, and pillows are more on the soft side, but comfy. There is an iron board, an iron, as well as a stand for the luggage, along with a red bathrobe in the closet. Very pleasant stay overall.

No breakfast included. As a consolation, there is a Nespresso machine in the room though. Parking was available on the street, there were only two spots available when I came to park at night. If it was the high season or there was an event, parking would have been an issue. There were some homeless in the area, and suspicious people on bikes early morning, which did not inspire full confidence in the safety of the area (I mean car theft/ vandalism, not violence).

Love the decor. Enjoyed sitting in the garden patio. The bed and all the bedding was luxurious. The bathroom and shower were stunning. Easy walk to many shops etc. Awesome coffee bar.

I could see for some not having an elevator and walking the three flights of stairs could be an issue but I enjoyed the exercise. Missing coffee whitener in the rooms was disappointing as I love coffee in my room. The beautiful lobby has a great complementary coffee bar.

Simple, sensible, clean and convenient. It seemed like every personal need, however small had been thought out and provided for.

I loved everything except the size of the room it was small

Comfortable, close to everything : Byward Market, Parliament Hill, Sparks Street. Staff very friendly. They let us leave our bikes on the terrace in the back that was locked so it felt very safe.

Not a lot of parking spaces so we ended up parking at the Rideau Centre and it was expensive. It’s also close to the Mission where a lot of homeless people hang out so walking there always feels awkward to me, I almost feel guilty 😕

Great shared space and outdoor space

Everything was wonderful. Sabine, the owner, is friendly, obliging, knowledgeable and kind. The bed and shower and cleanliness of the rooms were all excellent. My sister and brother-in-law joined me there for two days and we were able to eat our breakfast downstairs, which was a pleasure. Coffee was available free downstairs during certain hours. The decor was thoughtful and tasteful. I would definitely return to Swiss Hotel.

The only drawback for me was that I would have preferred having breakfast available in the hotel. But having a fridge in my room made it possible to store breakfast items.

I LOVED this hotel. It felt like an ideal version of a small-hotel stay in Europe: clean, comfortable, not high luxury but run by owners who care and who fill the place with little well-thought out touches. There's coffee in the morning in a lovely common room or in the garden. It's a very central location, sandwiched between the heart of downtown and the university, in an old neighbourhood with Victorian-era houses and churches. Caveat: as an old neighbourhood, it is also home to a couple of homeless missions and social services - just in case the presence of the users of those services would be troubling to you. However, the hotel is a cozy treat, and the neighbourhood deserves to be appreciated for its history and beauty.

If the people in the neighbouring rooms happen to be early risers, you'll hear the knocking about. It's not a totally soundproofed place (although I was in the smallest room-grade on the ground floor). However, I heard no sound from the street or traffic.

The room was comfortable, pleasant, and quiet and the staff were welcoming and friendly. The location was also very convenient, within walking distance of all the downtown areas.

Lovely hotel - the decor is fantastic and very welcoming! I really appreciate the comfy mattress and great AC. The red and white coloring, mod chairs, glass tables, and nice linens in the room make it feel very posh.

The location is right downtown and close to all the tourist hotspots but the neighborhood is a little rough - not something the hotelier can fix. But I appreciate the super bright outdoor lighting and two locked front doors. I felt quite safe during my stay.

Not a big issue, but there are only a few parking spots by the hotel so we were advised to park elsewhere as I messaged to enquire. It would be helpful to know in advance about parking - we had to park in the shopping centre overnight and it was $30 Canadian dollars.

Vert clean, beautiful interior design, classy yet cozy. Especially liked the red touch - red accent chairs, red flowers on the lobby, red tiles in the bathroom. Even the kettle was red!Felt like a trip to Europe. Lives up to its name “Swiss Hotel”. Very friendly , helpful staff.
