The Russell, Nashville
The Russell in Nashville is a stunning boutique hotel located in the trendy East Nashville neighborhood. The building was originally constructed in 1904 as a church and has served various purposes over the decades, including acting as a makeshift hospital and a community center. Today, it stands as a creatively repurposed space that honors its past while embracing modern design.
The hotel’s 23 rooms are filled with clever nods to the building’s history. You will find weathered wooden church pews transformed into bed headboards and side tables, as well as original stained-glass windows that flood the lobby with vibrant colors. For a playful touch, the hotel features “confession booths” that serve as private photo studios, and the room numbers are inspired by scripture.
Beyond the aesthetics, the hotel is deeply committed to giving back. Through its “Stay Here, Change Lives” initiative, a significant portion of every night’s stay is donated to local homeless ministries. This socially conscious mission ensures that your visit directly supports the surrounding community.
Situated in East Nashville, the hotel provides easy access to the city’s creative heart. You are just a short trip from downtown icons like the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Johnny Cash Museum. The local area itself is packed with murals, quirky independent boutiques, and some of Nashville’s best dining, making it a perfect base for those who want a unique, meaningful stay.
Expert reviews
“This 115-year-old neighbourhood church has been transformed into a boutique hotel, complete with restored brick exterior and scene-stealing rosette stained-glass windows. A percentage of each room rate is donated to a local charitable organisation fighting homelessness in Nashville.”

A cozy, comfy beautiful place to stay in Nashville
The beautiful building and comfy beds and Photo Booth ♥️
Loved everything except maybe the 3 flights of stairs 🤪

True one of a kind Nashville getaway
Marvelous and thoughtful interior design. Smart and empathetic costumer experience. Excellent location and a true sense of a one of a kind stay.
Room was a bit small but cleverly designed to solve for that. Internet connection was a bit sketchy.

Super fun, funky, artistic, unique!
I loved how funky and colorful and unique it was!
I would’ve liked to have stayed on an upper floor and not the ground floor. The grounds could’ve been a little nicer. We looked at a window to a bunch of cut up pipes. Also, couldn’t figure out how to get into the recording booth.

Beautifully decorated and clean hotel.
Rooms were exceptionally clean and beautifully decorated. The hotel was in a quiet neighborhood and only 8 minutes away from broadway street. Also had its own Parking so parking wasn’t an issue.

A unique and fun hotel
All the facilities were good, the room was well laid out and spacious, and the beds were very comfortable. We liked the location and even without staff on site, it worked seamlessly. It was a great place for our family of four to stay!

Mixture of modern with church history
Incredible place, despite of the absence of the personel in person- full contact
Modern approach with code access to rooms with details from past history seen everythere
The only remark- very loud AC on the corridor-may disturb sleep at night i

Exceptional location, amenities like ice machine are nice
Great location for East Nashville concerts! We drive in from Memphis and typically stay here so we can walk over to Basement East for a show.
The room we were in needed a little refresh/ update and was smaller room than we stayed in before but was listed as same room type as previous stay.

As long as we can find affordable rates, my team will always stay at the Russell while in Nashville.
It's a gorgeous property. It's very comfortable with al the amenities you'd want - a great shower, a great bed.
All good.

The Russell was wonderful. The process of getting booked there was stressful.
My check in experience was only complicated by booking.com. I think I got 12 emails or texts from them before checking in. I finally just called The Russell so I could stop trying to find the right information in an email somewhere. It was complicated and ...a bit stressful to try to find the right email with the information that I needed at check-in time.
See above. Too many emails / texts!!

Great location, cool design. Stay on the top floor! Wish they had trash removal
Cool design and good location in East Nashville.
There is no staff. Cool concept, but in practice you need trash collection. Garbage cans in the stairwells were overflowing the entire weekend we were there with guests' trash that they took out of their rooms.
There is single-use plastic water bottles in the rooms, but there is a filtered water tap downstairs. I wish they provided reusable water bottles and mugs for coffee/tea.
We stayed on the 2nd floor and could hear upstairs guests footsteps. I'd recommend only staying on the top floor.

Great location near downtown/OpryMills/Nissan Stadium and Fabulous Restaurants!!! ❤️❤️❤️
It’s a GREAT location!!…and a very unique property.
We’ve stayed here 3 times—No complaints.

Believe all the good reviews! Would stay here again.
King deluxe room had a real door on the bathroom, not a sliding barn door. Room was cute and cozy, and came with a Dyson fan, coffee maker, snacks/water, and a white noise machine. Lighting was nice and adjustable. Bed and pillows were comfy. Walls were thick.
The church pew as a head board is cute, but tends to create a gap.

Adventurous and cozy
It’s close enough to the action that seeing everything was a breeze, but far enough away that I didn’t hear any noise. It’s in a lovely, quiet neighbourhood with a couple of great cafes and bars nearby.
The cold water tap in the room’s bathroom sink didn’t really work. That’s the only complaint I have.

Great stay at a well-kept place
The room was surprisingly big and very comfortable. The bathooms were nice and the system of getting in/ out was easy to follow. The whole hotel was set up very nicely in the shared common areas and everything was super clean.
The sound seemed to travel in the hotel. I couldn't always hear other guests but every now and then you would hear coughing or a TV. It wasnt super distracting but definitely there.

The most unique and beautiful place to stay in Nashville…safe and comfortable!
Such a unique and beautiful place to stay! The lobby is gorgeous with the original church windows. It felt very safe with the codes and in a wonderful location. Free parking was a great addition and it took a simple email to arrange our spot. The room was unique and comfortable! We loved our stay!

Wish there was a bar!

Staying at The Russell gave me joy in its design, comfort and humanity.
Extraordinary and hopeful space to find oneself.
True individual and human artistic expression in embracing the original church structure and service by delights in added color, functionality at play, warmth of community areas and strengthening community outreach to those in need. A cloud bed and fabulous location on top of it all. Immense appreciation for the design, heart, and care by all who built and warmly attend to this place.

What a Divine experience!
The atmosphere. The size and decor. The special touches - treats and goodies. Coffee station. Luggage lockers. Self-service. The bed was super comfortable!! The neighborhood.
The smell. Overwhelming “cleaning product” smell. The heat pump “heat”. It blew cold air and took too long to heat up to a desired temperature.

Everything was comfortable and went smoothly during our stay.
It was beautifully decorated and had a very unique yet comfortable style. The room we stayed in was very spacious and included more than enough amenities for our 1 night stay. Beds and sheets were very comfortable. There was also plenty of hot water and pressure in the shower which was a relief as we normally experience issues in other accommodations. Parking is also very convenient since it’s included with your stay and most places will charge extra. It was also very easy to check in and out.
The room we stayed in was very close to the lobby so we were easily able to hear others coming and going. Luckily, it didn’t seem too busy and other guests respected the quiet hours. We never found ventilation in the bathroom which would have been nice but not a deal breaker. Also would recommend removing or replacing the wooden stool/bench in the shower as it seems that it will eventually attract mold/mildew after frequent showering.

Great converted hotel - good value lovely touches

The perfect hotel for our family
The location was great - residential, but still walkable to some restaurants and shops. The room was larger than most, and the local treats in the room were a nice touch! The hotel itself is beautiful, and we enjoyed the architectural components.
The bed was pretty firm, that's the only thing I can think of that I might change.
Ooh! There wasn't really any staff, which isn't necessarily a negative - it just felt odd. There wasn't anything we needed, but I probably wouldn't choose this type of hotel as a solo female traveler.

Beautiful place, excellent location , but not for us
It's very cool concept - no person service hotel. The building is amazing , very well maintained and kept clean. Bursts of bright colours and decorations.. Comfy beds, nice strong showers.
I am a claustrophobic , and when we booked the room , there was a little description of it on the site( skylight , king bed) . The room was very small and no windows, except small opening on the ceiling , with inside light.. Like sleeping in the closet, my first night was a nightmare , having a panic attack , struggling with breathing.. I wish there would be more information about the rooms.

I enjoyed the property and the give back theme
Church as they give back to the community!
I think the property was fine

Great experience, and I would definitely stay there again in the future.
The sheets, towels, and robes were spotless. It was the cleanest place Ive ever stayed in. The treats and wine in the room were a nice special touch. Also it was so convenient to have an ice maker and water machine right down the hall.

Would definitely stay at The Russell again!
It was gorgeous!
The pipe in the ceiling of our room rattled and made a lot of noise when someone used the facilities upstairs.

We loved it! Will stay again next time in Nashville. Will tell friends when headed that way.
We really loved the vibe of the place. I loved how they carried the church theme throughout the hotel and room with cathedral mirrors etc. The lobby was beautiful and comfortable to just hang out in.
The bed was comfortable! The towels were super soft. They had a Dyson blow dryer. A great assortment of snacks and coozies with the name of the hotel on it. The grounds were beautiful. The little photo booth they had was such a fun touch! Parking right across the street at no extra charge. Walking distance to a ton of places to grab a drink or eat something. The neighborhood was lovely with tons of old historical type homes. Will definitely stay again the next time we are in Nashville. Loved it way more than staying downtown. It was only a short uber drive to Broadway.
We loved everything!

A gorgeous place to stay in a great area and less than 2 miles from Broadway!
Totally blown away by this truly stunning property, a beautiful room, with mini fridge, coffee maker, comfy bed, wonderful bathroom with body wash, shampoo, conditioner and hand wash, Dyson hairdryer, robes, snacks, water the list just went on!
Absolutely nothing!

It was a unique experience.
Gorgeous, unique facility.
The neighborhood is just ok, like many hotel neighborhoods. It is louder than your typical hotel but they provide a sound machine and ear plugs and that did the job perfectly. There were high stained glass windows in our room which were pretty during the day but still let quite a bit of light from the hallway in even with the curtains closed. The curtains are a tad too short. I hung my jacket in front of the window.
