Downtown Hostel, Nashville
The Nashville Downtown Hostel was once a beloved fixture for budget-conscious travelers, famously housed in a historic 1880s warehouse building along the Cumberland Riverfront. Its prime location on 1st Avenue placed guests just steps away from the heart of the city’s legendary music scene, including the iconic honky-tonks of Lower Broadway and the Ryman Auditorium.
The property was celebrated for its community-focused environment, which featured a music stage, shared kitchen, and common areas designed to help solo travelers and musicians connect. Following extensive renovations, it had become a popular social hub, embodying a “come as guests, leave as friends” philosophy that attracted visitors from all over the world.
Tragically, the building was damaged during the 2020 Christmas morning bombing in downtown Nashville. While the property provided a unique and accessible stay for nearly a decade, it has remained closed since that event. Because of this, it is no longer an available option for those visiting the city today.
Despite its closure, the area it occupied remains the epicenter of Nashville’s tourism. Nearby, visitors can still explore the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the vibrant nightlife of the District, and the scenic trails of Riverfront Park. While you can no longer stay at this specific hostel, the surrounding neighborhood continues to be the primary destination for anyone looking to experience the authentic pulse of Music City.
Expert reviews
“Well located, only a block from Lower Broadway, and up to the minute in style and function. The common space in the basement, with its rather regal exposed stone walls and beamed rafters, is your all-hours mingle den.”
“This hostel has everything going for it. It’s new, safe, quiet, and spotless; it’s housed in a huge architecturally interesting 19th-century building; it’s managed by a competent and caring staff; and, best of all, it’s right on the edge of the Downtown music scene.”
