The Germantown Inn, Nashville

1218 6th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37208, United States of America (show on map)

The Germantown Inn is a beautiful boutique hotel nestled in Nashville’s oldest neighborhood. Built in 1865 by a prominent German immigrant and shoemaker named H.H. Wallman, the two-story brick townhouse is one of the oldest standing structures in the area. It remained a private family home for generations before being thoughtfully restored and opened as an upscale inn.

The property cleverly blends its historic Federal-style architecture with bright, contemporary Southern design. The interiors showcase bespoke creative touches from local Nashville artisans, including colorful custom textiles by Andra Eggleston and custom lighting by Southern Lights Electric. Guests can also enjoy the quiet Courtyard Terrace or look out over the city from the private rooftop veranda.

A unique feature of the inn is its 10 luxury suites, which are individually designed and named after influential American presidents and pioneering historic women. Depending on which room you book, you might find yourself sleeping in the Jefferson, Madison, or Rosa Parks suite. Each room features bold, custom portraits of its historical namesake painted by local artist Caitlin Mello.

Its location in the walkable historic district makes exploring quite easy. The inn is just a short stroll away from the Nashville Farmers’ Market, the minor league baseball games at First Horizon Park, and the scenic Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park.

For those interested in local culture, the expansive Tennessee State Museum is right nearby, offering a deep dive into the state’s past. Plus, you are only a quick drive from downtown Nashville’s legendary music scene and the iconic Ryman Auditorium.

“Blending old and new, Colonial and modern, the hotel was renovated and opened again in December 2016. Guests can now enjoy a historical stay with contemporary influence and local touches.”

Telegraph review:

“Rooted in history, but not musty or quaint, this modern inn offers a lush respite from the city’s urban core. You’ll feel connected to Nashville’s roots without sacrificing luxury.”

Great Choice With One Downstairs Flaw.

The Germantown Inn is in a great location - a fun suburb with a lot to see and very close to all the attractions. The staff was excellent and the breakfast was a very nice addition. The rooms were decent, nothing special, but nice and clean. Parking was also easy (unlike the expensive downtown fee's).

I only had one issue with the hotel. The downstairs rooms are in an echo chamber. All three rooms downstairs echo with any conversation in the lobby, the breakfast area, or the hallway. You can hear every word in a normal conversation and it is loud. This can be problematic if you want some quite outside of the 10:00 pm to 7:00 am quiet hours (like a nap in the day or if you want to sleep in). I chose to wear ear plugs, but even those were only semi efficient. I have never had this issue in other hotels. It is obviously due to the proximity of those rooms to the common areas, the hardwood floors, and maybe the doers aren't sealed tightly or soundproof. The upstairs rooms don't have this issue. I would come back, but I'd insist on staying upstairs.

A beautiful respite in a lovely neighborhood, off the noisy paths.

Love the laid-back quiet of the setting and neighborhood. Also love the preservation-mindedness. The cobbler's 1897 house makes for interesting history. Bed was comfortable. The staff was friendly and attentive. The happy hour and charcuterie were a nice touch. Breakfast too.

The lengthy door codes were a bit inconvenient (first world problems, I realize). There was a slight musty smell in our room.

VERY noisy room so take ear plugs!.

Location is great, staff very helpful, nice breakfast

The room! Firstly there is no set of drawers anywhere. only a wardrobe for hanging your stuff. Probably OK if your only staying the one night but otherwise you have to live out of your suitcase. Avoid Madison room....its tiny and also avoid any of the downstairs rooms as all the rooms have wooden floors so the noise of people waling about is amplified and (as in our case....we were in Polk room) means that you can only get to sleep when the people upstairs are sleeping and you will be woken up when they wake up......and we are not light sleepers! For $350/night this is unacceptable......avoid!

Adorable place to stay

Very cute and quaint. Loved being out of the hustle of downtown. The staff was kind and helpful

Our room was great, The Madison - would have loved to have curtains on the window to help stay shaded in the morning. Other than that, no complaints.

Absolutely perfect few days in Nashville

Beautiful house with a calm, cool, welcoming atmosphere that is exactly what you want from a guesthouse over a hotel! Free parking was such a plus and all a safe location. Beds were incredible, rooms were perfect. Staff were very friendly and informative, so homely but not intrusive at all. Loved the location- we enjoyed being 20 minutes walk from downtown and also Germantown had enough bars/restaurants if you wanted a quiet one. I’d recommend 100%!

Nothing it was all perfect. We wish the outdoor cat wanted cuddles!!!

I was surprised that the images on booking were misleading without any exterior pictures. It was a house converted into

It had a positive bed and breakfast atmosphere

There was a strong musty smell and I felt extremely uncomfortable in the bedroom

Wonderful Place to stay in a residential area.

Very nice garden patio area as well as a rooftop patio. The room and the Bathroom were both nice.
Breakfast was OK and was served from the kitchen to be eaten in the dining room.
It was adequate, but not elaborate.
A pleasant atmosphere throughout.

Found it difficult to get in. The front door was locked, so we needed to use a gate at the side. Parking in the back was not obvious.

A delightful gem

Our experience at the Germantown Inn was incredible!! The staff was genuinely kind, friendly, and went above and beyond. They allowed us to check-in early and given that my husband is pretty tall, they upgraded our room from a queen size to a king size. It was unexpected, but such a nice gesture! The room was beautiful, clean, with lovely interior design details (the wallpapers, for example, are too cute!!), as well as the bathroom. I also loved the fact that the hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood, but not too far from downtown, and there are some really good eateries in the area (first and foremost, Monell's, which serves excellent breakfast).
This is one the best hotels I have ever stayed in my many years of traveling. I will recommend it to any of my friends and family traveling to Nashville

Everything was great!!!

The staff and extras made the stay

The staff were fantastic, the free drink/charcuterie box a lovely touch and the breakfast was excellent.

There was nothing we didn’t like, but our room was a lot smaller than it looked on the website and we would have asked to change had we been there more than one night
