Lonely Planet review:

“Stay in a 19th-century mansion with eight tastefully appointed rooms, each decked out with crafts from a different Mexican state. Like that Huichol bead art or Oaxacan black ceramics in your room? Take them home with you – guests can purchase basically anything in the house that’s not bolted down.”

Fodors review:

“This thoughtfully appointed B&B in a stately 19th-century brick building is an attractive option for those looking for a homey, eco-friendly, design-forward base in one of Mexico City’s emerging artsy neighborhoods, San Rafael. Slightly off the beaten path on a street several blocks northwest of the Monumento a la Revolución.”

Frommers review:

“One-third art gallery, one-third science project and one-third, well, happy sleep over, this off-the-beaten path B&B is a real charmer. Priding itself on being eco-friendly, guests are given explicit instructions on how to use the bathrooms, as much of the water is re-used, and heated by solar power.”

CDMX Gem

El Patio 77 is a gem! Located in a quiet neighborhood that's somehow close to everything, it was the perfect place to call home for the 5 days we spent in CDMX. The building has historic charm and it's been thoughtfully decorated with an eclectic collection of antiques. The beds were comfortable and our bedroom was quiet. The stay included breakfast every morning served in the courtyard and Sunday brunch was phenomenal, definitely worth including in the weekend! The manager of the hotel, Elvia, is a native of the city and is super engaging, helpful and had plenty of quality suggestions for our trip. Stay here.

Very good

El Patio 77 was a sweet place to stay in a nice neighborhood and the host could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Our only issue was that it seemed far away from most things we wanted to see and it wasn't the type of neighborhood that had much in the way of cafes, restaurants and galleries. The rooms were generous in size and artistically put together.

CDMX to perfection

Every moment at Patio was pure bliss. Absolutely stunning property in the best location. After visiting other areas incl Roma Norte, I loved the more local feel of San Rafael. All the staff were incredible and helped us with so much. Breakfast was a perfect start to cleanse a few tequilas. Will be back A+

El Patio was perfect for our time in Mexico City, the place itself was a really beautiful, unique building. The staff were all really lovely and helpful and we had a delicious breakfast included every morning.

A place I would love to return to

As soon as I entered I felt a very warm and welcoming feeling. The entire Mansion is thoughtfully decorated with beautiful things and details. Enjoying breakfast in a light-filled atrium with design classics is a feast for the eyes and stomach. Elvia, who is the manager, helped me with everything from ideas what to do and see in Mexico City to organizing a trip to Xochimilco with the hotel's own limousine service. Also want to mention that the house felt safe and secure when there was an earthquake

Passable

The room was beautiful and staff amazing, we just got surprised about the bathroom situation - the room doesn't have separate doors/walls to the toilet and shower, it's all in the same room. No worries if you travel by yourself, but traveling with a partner we would have liked to have some privacy regarding some walls or doors to bathroom.

Noisy location, Friendly hosts, Lovely breakfast, WiFi Issues

I visit CDMX regularly, and unfortunately slightly pricey El Patio is not at the top of my list for several reasons. Very noisy street corner, lots of sound vibrations even with the loud room fan for "white noise". No air conditioning, or TV, if that's expected. The host is friendly and the Michoacan room is clean, spacious, neatly appointed. Comfortable bed. Interesting 125ish year old building. Unreliable WiFi in our room on both Apple and Android devices, strong connection in lobby and dining area. They are working on a quick fix for the large, old building. Long term, daytime construction next door creates dust, hammering and noise. As expected in older buildings, low water pressure, but plenty of hot water. Delicious breakfast - sunny side up egg chilaquiles with a nice salsa, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola. Fridge in kitchen was not in service, if cold snack storage is desired. Coffee, tea are available via self-service. Walking distance to Avenida Reforma, restaurants and Chapultepec (5 or so miles return trip).

Great, helpful staff. Great breakfasts. Wonderful

Staying in old actual house - nicely decorated and maintained. Safe. Close to metro. Got to see people in their daily life.

A bit noisy at night.
