Expert reviews

CNN review:

“The Orfila is a converted 19th-century palace. Close enough to the Castellana to feel the pulse of the city’s main artery, set back enough to sleep quietly and stroll along sedate side streets.”

Lonely Planet review:

“One of Madrid’s best hotels, Hotel Orfila has all the luxuries of any five-star hotel – supremely comfortable rooms, for a start – but it’s the personal service that elevates it into the upper echelon; regular guests get bathrobes embroidered with their own initials.”

Telegraph review:

“The Orfila is a quietly luxurious haven in a city of long days and late nights. Part of the Relais & Châteaux stable, the family-owned boutique hotel is all about sumptuous comfort and discreet service. Filled with antiques and works of art, it is handily located in a smart neighbourhood away from the tourist areas.”

All you need to know

Madrid is a city known for excitement and the Hotel Orfila puts visitors right smack in the middle of all that lively activity. The hotel is located at the edge of three districts making it easy for guests to see many sides of Madrid. Being close to Paseo de la Castellana is good for business travelers while being close to the upmarket shopping district of Goya and Serrano opens up that option for travelers interested in collecting. The northern end of Chueca is very close and contains trendy boutiques bars restaurants and the San Anton food market.

The property has a long, rich history. The hotel was originally constructed as a mansion in the late 1800s and was used to stage plays in the early 1900s. Both these eras in the hotel’s past are clearly reflected in the decor and features of the property. For example, the framed Loewe scarfs on the walls are a tribute to the 1800s while the main lobby has been set up like a stage.

When not exploring the rich history of the hotel or the surrounding attractions guests,, can unwind and relax in one of the traditionally styled and super comfortable rooms. The bedding features an upholstered bedhead in floral and paisley prints and comes with views of the garden, a big television, iPod dock and a hydromassage bathtub with an overhead shower. The attached bathroom also comes with Jack and Jill sinks.
