Nice rooftop lounge on the 5th floor, but they let people in who are not staying at the hostal, so there is a constant stream of street people in and out of the hostal. Big security issue. Sometimes, guests staying at the hostal are not allowed in the rooftop deck, as it has been rented out.

Great brekkie buffet, bed was SUPER comfortable and I loved how secure I felt with the curtain and not having to worry about falling out of the bed ahaha, the cave (i.e. dining area) was super comfy and felt like home, and I loved the social atmosphere of the hostel -- everyone in my dorm got along well and we became friends quickly! That seemed to be the culture at this hostel, which was great. The housekeeping staff were phenomenal and work so hard, they deserve a huge shoutout for their commitment. I saw the same staff everyday and I really respect the amount of effort they put into keeping the Hat very tidy and spotless. I also really liked how I could drop my luggage off early before check in and the system they had set up (they give you a number and lock your bag in a storage room to make sure you don't take any one else's belongings, super secure).

The rooftop was so packed and had long wait times! I wish I planned to see it earlier as I missed out. Also thought there would be more than one washing machine/dryer. And I couldn't find a sink for the downstairs bathroom but maybe I didn't look hard enough? The pub crawl was great but it was so chaotic trying to keep up with the group and we would lose people at times.

The bedroom and the bathroom inside were very clean, the shower was pretty good, with hot water, there are many spaces for putting accessories, the coffee is good, I just missed some fruits, but it's ok.

The kitchen is not fully equipped and is not suitable for a longer stay. The breakfast was not worth the price.

It was one of the best hostels I've ever been. It was VERY CLEAN and fun! I enjoyed the pub crawl and sangria workshop, %100 recommended. Its location was the best, just a few minutes to Plaza Mayor. If I come back to Madrid, this is the one I'll stay again for sure!!

Rooftop bar was smaller than I expected but it's still nice. Our room window opened onto the ventilation shaft instead of the outside but didn't really bother. It'd have been better if we had a nice view tho. The rooftop bar overlooked the same ventilation shaft, which made it kind of noisy. It wasn't a big deal as they shut down at midnight.

The second room I had (for 6 bed female) had a pretty cramped shower. On our last night, we couldn’t get the air conditioner to work and it was just blowing heat.

Location is excellent as right at centre near plaza Major, short walk to metro and local parks, museums. The room was OK - The beds comfortable, I was in the lower bunk - I suppose the room / night experience depends on your room mates - mine were OK - the hostel is mostly popular with younger adults. Good value for money and good for meeting new people - they have a socializing event each evening as well, there were also "free" guided tours around the area in the mornings from the hostel - another good way to explore and to socialize - the tour guide expects tips which was fine. Breakfast was decent for the price, but I generally only slept, showered and used basic WC amenities and was otherwise out and about, and for that purpose this stay was 10/10. I would recommend this spot if comfort and privacy aren't a huge priority - this depends on who you're going with - best for solo - upto 6 adult groups (depending on beds per room) - I would NOT recommend staying here if with younger children.

Not a fault of the hostel but of course, depending on the neighbours and/or roommates , it can be very noisy and hard to sleep at night - be sure to bring earplugs and/or eye clover to ensure a good rest, my bed itself was pretty good for comfort.

Very high quality hostel. Never thought it’s a hostel when stepping in the lobby. They have very good and well-maintained facilities and services. And the location is just perfect, next to Plaza Mayor, but the price is cheap and budget!! They just have everything you need! Perfect place to stay in Madrid!

Just a block away from Plaza Mayor and major subways. Below the hostel there is Carrefour Express and Five Guys restaurant. Tables to eat and socialize. Confy and clean bed with curtains.

I stayed here for one night and had a really good experience overall. The room had a private bathroom, which was very convenient, and the beds were comfortable, making it easy to rest. One highlight was the curtain—it was excellent and added a nice level of privacy and comfort to the space. The reception staff were also great: friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout my stay. Overall, a short but very pleasant visit. I’d definitely recommend it for a stay in Madrid!

In a dorm with lots of space and facilities. Breakfast was great, and the place is located within walking distance to lots of places.

Fantastic central location! Very accessible to public transport (bus/metro), banks, and shops. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is a nice touch. A special thanks to the reception team, especially Renee, who was so accommodating and friendly. My room/ bunk was ready when I got in. Would definitely stay again

The building's interior is a bit of a labyrinth! It’s manageable once you find your way, and the helpful reception team was very helpful.

Location is great! We can do pretty much everything by foot. Night life is right around the corner as well as good restaurants. The shower in my room was amazing! Actually, the top thing for me.

Cozy bed, but dangerous to get in and out of on upper bunk in room 1, bed 2. Nice staff, great breakfast, nice people, shower very tight, wonderful location. Noise always stopped right at midnight. Nice work space in the cave, good internet, nice views from main space, they hold your bags if you leave later (after checkout). EaY to make friends at breakfast community tables and in the group room (i had 5 women in mine).

Small shower, dangerous top bunk in room 1, bed 2. Staff was nice and switched me as soon as someone left. Needs a bath mat in bathroom. Dangerous and slippery and one is expected to use their towel they rented for the whole stay, as a mat on the floor (or risk falling). Went to rooftop to get a beverage but want attended.

It’s the second time I have stayed at The Hat Madrid and I will tell you now I was not disappointed with anything! The staff are friendly and the location is excellent! Really close to the most important highlights. Bathroom was always clean and shower was perfectly warm. Staff was friendly and lively and singing. Lockers in bedroom were spacious. Bed was comfy and felt private. My room had a great view and a balcony to stay for a while. The breakfast had always something new: tortilla, bread with tomato, etc. Loved staying there, maiy because the rooftop was a good place to chill out

I liked how central it was to everything and how friendly the staff were! The 4 bunk dorm I was in was very clean and well stocked!

This is the third time I visited this hostel - that says a lot. All was great as always, the reception staff was amazing. I had two separate reservations, 2 nights and 1 night in different rooms. The receptionist offered me to stay in the same room, so I didn't have to check out and check in again:) The location is unbeatable, walking distance to everything and close to Atocha station. Great value for money, although there's always room for improvement - free towels would be great, shampoo in the shower etc. :)

I think I'll be staying in a female dorm from now on. One roomie checked out at 4 AM and left all lights on. Someone also left the toilet filthy and it stayed dirty for two days. People should be more respectful when travelling, especially in a hostel.

One of the nicest hostels I've stayed in, clean, modern, good location and wonderful staff, good breakfast and rooftop area. Slightly higher in price than most hostels.

The staff is friendly and the location is conveniently close to the metro. Breakfast is simple but offers a lovely taste of traditional Spanish flavors. They also offer a free walking tour; while I didn't have the chance to join, it seems like an great introduction to the city for travelers who prefer a flexible, 'go-with-the-flow' itinerary.

In the pictures looks more vibrant than in person, the reservation says that includes towel and never received it, also breakfast was charged additional, my first reservation was canceled 2 days prior to my arrival, so I do have to make a new one right away and more expensive.
