Charlotte Street Hotel, London

15-17 Charlotte St, Fitzrovia, London W1T 1RJ, United Kingdom (show on map)

The Charlotte Street Hotel is a vibrant boutique gem tucked away in Fitzrovia, London. Designed by Kit Kemp, the hotel reflects a fearless, contemporary style that pays homage to the influential Bloomsbury Group. With original artworks by famous figures like Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant displayed throughout the property, it feels less like a hotel and more like a curated, creative townhome.

The building itself has an interesting history, having once served as a warehouse before being transformed into the colorful, five-story luxury space it is today. Guests can enjoy unique amenities like a private underground cinema that hosts regular film nights, and a cozy library and drawing room featuring an “honesty bar” that encourages you to mix your own drinks just like a local.

The hotel’s location is hard to beat for those who love city exploration. You are just a short walk from the buzzing Soho area and the world-renowned British Museum. Whether you want to catch a West End show or hunt for treasures in nearby independent galleries, you are perfectly positioned at the heart of London’s most creative neighborhood.

Charlotte Street itself is legendary among food lovers, lined with a diverse array of Michelin-starred restaurants and trendy cafés. After a day of shopping on nearby Oxford Street or wandering through the historic Bloomsbury squares, the hotel offers a sophisticated yet playful retreat to unwind in.

Expert reviews

Fodors review:

“A beautiful boutique property in the heart of Central London, the Charlotte Street Hotel is all literary nods and artistic winks. Located on a relatively quiet side street in Fitzrovia, the hotel is a classy establishment that will appeal to the style maven.”

Featured as Fodor’s Choice in London.

CNN review:

“The huge, comfortable beds and trademark polished granite and oak bathrooms are suitably indulgent, and some rooms have luxuriously high ceilings.”

Forbes review:

“Part of Tim and Kit Kemp’s Firmdale Collection of boutique hotels, the hotel has its own appealing design—a blend of vibrant colors, fabrics, textures and well-worn Oriental rugs—with an appealing all-day bar and restaurant just off the lobby that’s a favorite gathering spot for Central Londoners.”

Telegraph review:

“One of the original members of Kit Kemp’s ever-growing stable of Firmdale hotels, that pays tribute to its London home of Bloomsbury. Service is slick, design is on-point, and there’s lots of comfy lounging space downstairs in which to work, curl up with a book, or enjoy a drink from the honesty bar.”

Pleasant stay in attractive hotel in central location but a little overpriced.

Excellent location for our needs, pleasant room with comfortable mattress, well equipped and quiet. We slept well.
The public spaces are nicely furnished and decorated. The front staff on door and reception were professional, friendly and helpful.

The television signal kept cutting out meaning that we were restricted to the main channels, not great when you are paying these kind of prices. I did miss having tea & coffee facilites in the room. The breakfast is not great value, £5 for one cup of coffee and no free refills and in an near empty room we were seated by a group and by the door to the kitchen. The small tables in the bar are solid meaning that there was no where to put our legs, such a pretty room and maybe the window seats are different but it wasn't comfortable enough for us to stay for a second drink.
The way that the final bill was displayed with service on the room and service on every item ordered (breakfast, room service) was difficult to read.

We prefer the sister hotel Soho

Immaculately clean

Small bed, and service and food not good. Breakfast very poor.

We loved the hotel, the staff were lovely and the decor of the hotel was fabulous. Great location.

The design of the hotel. The oversized beds. The guest lounge and the honesty Bar.

The room had no coffee making facilities. When we asked about this we were told it would be £10 per day for the hire of a coffee machine.

A high-end price that's more than worth it

Exceptional reception staff, great room, everything we needed

One tiny quibble: there was no coffee machine in the room but it really didn't matter

An extremely comfortable stay

An extremely comfortable stay in a beautifully-designed, centrally-located hotel, where the lovely staff took very good care of us.

Best hotel in Lonodn

For me the best hotel in London. Everything about it screams luxury. It feels like home with some extra benefits. No bling just charm and home comforts.

my biggest disappointment was the staff, no flexibility, no willingness to help & noisy rooms

The rooms were well designed and well maintained

The rooms were noisy, you can hear everything : all noises outside in the hallway, who walks by due to squeaky old floors, to someone talking, closing and opening other room doors etc

Exceptional - home luxury at its best!

This is how you do a luxury hotel - every details has been thought of. Hotels have become boring destinations. The fun and luxury has been taken out of hotels since the pandemic. Not at the Charlotte Street Hotel! You feel luxury in a homely way, not a flashy way, from the moment you arrive. The staff, the room, the details. Everything has been thought through & works. Incredible. I will be back ....

That I had to leave .....

It’s a lovely hotel but the bar and restaurant service needs to improve.

You really cannot fault the comfort and ambience of the Charlotte Street Hotel, location wise it is also perfectly placed.

We were disappointed with the service in the bar and restaurant, the staff seemed preoccupied in cleaning than serving. Sunday evening 9.30 p.m there were more staff than guest, yet the staff seemed to be busy being allusive. After waiting 15 minutes I eventually caught the eye of a waiter and ask for two hot chocolates , the responce “sorry we can’t do hot drinks Sir because the machine has been cleaned”. The next morning wasn’t much better, it took so long to get served.

Beautiful design b, fantastic staff and great location

Beautiful design, very comfortable, lovely and highly professional staff. Great location

The breakfast could be better. The pancakes are very dry and the avocado toast is the most basic I ever had. Not at the level of a 5 star hotel at all

Couldn’t get a drink until 6::30pm. Bar was “fully booked” not good enough.

Great location, boutique feel

Not being able to go to the bar. Resident lounge cleaned for a wedding and told no tables in bar until 6:30. I’ve never been to a hotel where as a resident you can’t go to the bar!

Unique hotel - great exoperience

Great location. Not the warmest of welcomes after a long journey from one checkin staff member, but the rest of the team were fantastic and really went out of their way to assist us. The concierge team were tremendous as were the bar staff. The location is so central and surrounded by lots of choice for bars and restaurants.

A warmer welcome as one team member can potentially ruin the experience of this magical boutique hotel
