Tuve Hotel, Hong Kong

Expert reviews

New York Times review:

”The 66-room Tuve Hotel is bringing boutique chic to the gentrifying neighborhood of Tin Hau. The design is minimalist, using gray-toned raw materials like concrete, marble, steel and glass, with unique touches like the desk-minibar-in-a-box combo unit to save space.”

Featured in New York Times’ 36 Hours in Hong Kong.

Lonely Planet review:

“From the dungeon-like entrance to the noir-ish reception area with black iron grille and the brass-and-concrete slab that is the front desk, everything here spells design.”

Telegraph review:

“A short hop away from the heart of Causeway Bay, TUVE is a highly stylised hotel that feels like a destination for frequent travellers in the know. Minimalist, with a slightly futuristic, slightly industrial feel, it’s a very cool place in a neighbourhood with a distinctly local feel.”

All you need to know

Great attractions that are nearby include the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Happy Valley Race The newly constructed Tuve Hotel is an eye-catcher amid the hustle and bustle of the busy Hong Kong Causeway Bay. It is coolly designed. Literally. Designers drew inspiration from pictures of the Swedish lake called Lake Tuve in the wintertime. Therefore, the decor is a composition of concrete, oxidized metal and white marble.

The rooms have a minimalist set up but all the essentials are featured including a wall-mounted TV, chair, bed, desk, city guide and minibar. Each room also features a private bathroom with a shower. A hairdryer and slippers are provided as well. The 24-hour front desk offers 24-hour assistance.

To treat the taste buds of guests, the Tuve Hotel presents the Sliver Room, an Italian-Japanese fusion restaurant. It is just as stylishly and sleekly designed as the rest of the hotel with an oxidized steel door entrance, black-iron beams crisscrossed against the translucent plastic walls and padded white banquette furnishings. The street-level restaurant serves tasty dishes that include octopus with home-made aioli, the fresh catch of the day with cucumber sauce and hand-made pappardelle with red-wine-braised, wagyu beef cheek. Guests can also have a drink at the Silver Room. Choices include European and Chilean wines, prosecco, champagne and sakes. For a person of timeless sophistication, this hotel is a top pick.

I'll be back.

The location is outstanding. Such a vibrant area with every imaginable choice of cuisine within a short stroll. - If you're a foodie you'll love Tin Hau. The hotel lobby is very, very cool. - Reception staff were outstanding; very friendly and very helpful. The room was perfectly fine for my needs and the hotel accommodated my request for hypo-allergenic bedding. (No feathers for me!) I've already raved about TUVE to my friends and I look forward to booking a staycation as soon as possible.

I love mood lighting as much or more than the next person - but a bit more light in the bathroom would be a bonus. Doing makeup in there wasn't great - and how anyone would manage to shave successfully is a mystery to me. Also, a bit chilly in the room - nice to snuggle under the duvet but it was a tad too cool for comfort. The interesting placement of the signage is all good fun - but it does make the place a little hard to find if you're not already in the know - and I would have been stumped locating my room if the lovely Ariel at reception hadn't (literally) given me a heads up.

Basic modern hotel

Fast check-in, reception is on the 1/F. Hard wood floor makes the room feel cleaner.

Room is on the small side, shower water pressure is weak.

Excellent atmosphere, relax and comfortable, worth to stay.

Staff are nice and helpful, I like the simplicity of the hotel. There is a special and nice smell inside the hotel, very memorable.

The bed seems a little bit short when I slip off from the pillow, though I am a 165cm girl XD

Stylish hotel, comfortable room and easily accessible

The overall vibe of the room and the hotel is really cool and comfortable. The staff I have encountered are all very friendly. The location of the hotel is easily accessible.

The walls are a bit thin. The sound of the bridge right outside of the hotel is noticeable when cars drive through. The breakfast included was alright.

Very good

The design of the lobby is excellent, I particularly like the smell of the place.

The soundproof of the room can be enhanced. There will be noise from the window whenever other customers from rooms next store and I can sometimes hear noise from the next room

Blissful

Have stayed here before. Very retro and more importantly comfortable in a good location.

The dark entrance and no signage of reception being on the first floor

I loved my stay.

I loved my room, it was amazing. The bed was really comfortable. The room was really spacious. The coffee and the water which was complimentary was really high quality. The staff was really helpful and nice. I had a really comfortable and good stay there. It was a safe place in this busy city. I loved everything about my stay and the hotel. My room had a beautiful view, it was on the top floor.

The only thing I disliked was the breakfast, which was not served at the hotel but in a cafe close by called 101. The staff there didn't speak English and the food was average.

Looks attractive, but disappoints

Great design of hotel/rooms nice and quiet room

Accessories really at a low level. Where to hang wet towels so they can dry? Toilet paper the usual thin Hong Kong quality. Only bed lamp one side of bet and not adjustable. suitcase rack too small. Bed quilt not clean - brown spots!!!! - not good at all. Breakfast not the best - only one cup of coffee and no other drinks and then!!! Breakfast at small other restaurant - and only starts a 08:30. Walking distance - sure, but in heavy rain - inconvenient.

Pleasant

Beautiful and clean room

The AC was too cold even turned it to 28’C with low fan. There were no speaker, smart tv or apple tv. Our room was locked immediately at 12:00pm checkout out time. We needed to go down to the front desk to look for help. Which caused so much inconvenience. This never happened from my staycation experience.

Uncomfortable and cold

Design. A good attempt at chic minimalist style, however not functional at all.

The room was too cold. Even at 30 degrees the air conditioner was freezing. Accidentally, an employee opened our room while we were inside. They apologised. Just train your staff better! All that minimalist style and even your staff can’t tell which room to open? Really bad / low quality toiletries. I dare anybody to use the toothbrush. In fact, I can say with confidence, that’s the worst toothbrush I’ve ever seen. Breakfast starts at 9 am? What why? Who does that? We made the mistake of buying a package with breakfast but couldn’t eat it because we had to leave before 9. I’ve never been to a hotel that starts their breakfast at 9. At checkout, the staff did not even care to get feedback about our stay. We had hoped to find a nice boutique hotel for frequent staycations but I’m confident that it was our last time.

Passable

The location.

We can hear the noise from the next door clearly. The bed and pillows are super soft, very uncomfortable. The hair dryer is old and broken. The breakfast not worth to try anymore. We are the first group customers, but they spent 20 min to make the coffee, the reason is they spent the time to chat with each other, the food quality is fine. The food come faster than the coffee.

Poor

location

the water pressure of the shower is the worst ever I have experienced in hk, I could get a five star hotel with that price and the room would be two times bigger. The hotel is basically a 40 years old refurnished building.
