Tuve Hotel, located in the Tin Hau district, is a striking example of minimalist design in Hong Kong. Opened in 2015, the hotel was designed by the local studio Design Systems and is famously inspired by the winter landscapes of Lake Tuve in Sweden. Its facade is intentionally nondescript, clad in black bronze with no apparent signage, creating a sense of “joyful uncertainty” for guests arriving for the first time.
The hotel’s aesthetic focuses on the beauty of raw materials like concrete, galvanized steel, brass, and oak. Rather than traditional luxury, the designers aimed for a “refined” experience where lighting plays a crucial role in highlighting textures. A particularly clever design detail is found in the rooms, where functional items like the desk and minibar are hidden away inside wooden boxes that guests must “unwrap” to discover.
With only 66 rooms and a layout featuring just three rooms per floor, the hotel offers a rare sense of privacy and tranquility amidst the chaos of the city. The interiors are a deliberate play of shadow and light, creating a calm, immersive atmosphere that feels worlds away from the busy streets outside.
The hotel is perfectly positioned for those who enjoy exploring local culture. It sits within walking distance of the Tin Hau MTR station and the bustling shopping hubs of Causeway Bay. Nearby, you’ll find the beautiful Victoria Park and the historic Lin Fa Temple, which is famous for its annual Fire Dragon Dance, offering a truly authentic glimpse into Hong Kong’s heritage.
Expert reviews
”The 66-room Tuve Hotel is bringing boutique chic to the gentrifying neighborhood of Tin Hau. The design is minimalist, using gray-toned raw materials like concrete, marble, steel and glass, with unique touches like the desk-minibar-in-a-box combo unit to save space.”
Featured in New York Times’ 36 Hours in Hong Kong.
“From the dungeon-like entrance to the noir-ish reception area with black iron grille and the brass-and-concrete slab that is the front desk, everything here spells design.”
“A short hop away from the heart of Causeway Bay, TUVE is a highly stylised hotel that feels like a destination for frequent travellers in the know. Minimalist, with a slightly futuristic, slightly industrial feel, it’s a very cool place in a neighbourhood with a distinctly local feel.”

It’s overrated and basic hospitality is missing.
It is very overrated.
There is no water to drink. Lot of noise in the room. Not able to sleep.

We love TUVE hotel and always try to stay there while in Hong-Kong

Designed to the max but needs more attention to comfort
The entire hotel has a minimalist design and is somewhat reminiscent of the set of THE FIFTH ELEMENT. The whole hotel has a somewhat austere look to it. From the outside, you can't really tell it's a hotel because there's only a small sign embedded in the sidewalk - no other signs. When I arrived at 3am, my cab driver (female) and I had to walk up and down the street (under an overpass) and were lucky that a hotel security guard saw us. The furniture still looks good but there are signs of wear and tear.
There was no hot water in the shower even after I left it running for more than 15 minutes. The advice that I should just call reception to turn it on was not really helpful. Would you want to call reception every time before you shower and after you've left the water running for fifteen minutes? What a waste of water and time.

designer style hotel with little glitches
The rooms are nice, the beds are very comfortable and the decor is no nonsense black and white designer style. The entry to the hotel is hard to find, only by looking at pictures posted by other guests could we find it.
The high pitched violin solos played in the lift were a bit too much. The toilet flushing did not work properly in both rooms we occupied. There is no breakfast option in the hotel, there is a cafe on the ground floor which looks nice but smelled bad so we went elsewhere, which was a bit of a walk. No fridge in the twin bed room.

I stay here whenever i’m on HK. I love this hotel, great value
Ubers keep missing the turn for the hotel because it’s right by a bridge

"Overall, a comfortable and convenient stay with excellent cleanliness and a great location close to
I really liked the room – it was comfortable and clean. The location was great, close to everything I wanted to see. The cleanliness was excellent; everything felt fresh and well-maintained. Overall, a great stay!

Tuve, please change your toiletries
The room has great design, industrial, attention to detail, a bit of kitnsugi in the concrete walls, magnetic 'do not disturb' signs, an interesting feature of an open table and chair. We really liked it.
The room was extremely stinky. At first we thought there was a hidden cheap perfume spray that keeps polluting the room, but when we tried the toiletries the source of this horrid odor became clear. Cheap, tacky. completely ruined the atmosphere of the room. We went out to buy soap and shampoo. The horrible smell, however, lingered for the rest of our stay, though less awful. Maybe we got used to it.

Nice for solo travelers needing a good hotel near causeway bay
Brutalist interior design which makes the small look and feel cohesive. The shower is nice
How small the room is. Lots of cupboards may be blocked if you have a lot of luggage

Great boutique hotel in a convenient location
Stylish well fitted room on 30th floor
Lacking only a full sized mirror in the room
Lighting for lift floor buttons could be enhanced to avoid fumbling at first entry

Design hotel in a so-so street, very small deluxe rooms, and hand soap available if you pay for it
The design of the room.
The lack of hand soap, and the propose to buy it when asked.
The size of the room, really small considering it was a deluxe room.
The noise of the AC, that makes sleeping hard.

Excellent stay, I'd return again to this hotel!
Location: We wanted a slightly off-central location and a quiet neighbourhood to stay at so Tin Hau was perfect. Come out from either Exit A1/A2 for a shorter walk to the hotel. The walk is approximately 10+ mins with luggage and 7mins by leisurely walking. There is no lack of food in the area. There were quite a number of international cuisines in the area. However I'd recommend: 101 Binary Cafe, Ki Ge's Roast Goose, Mak's Noodles, Sheng Ji Congee and NOC Coffee.
Room: We opted for the White Premier Room which was very big compared to HK's standard hotel rooms. There was even a Dyson hair dryer provided. There are however no toothbrushes and bottled water provided as part of their policy, but a filter bottle was available for use. Other toiletries and towels were also replenished/replaced everyday. The bed and pillows were delightfully comfortable. If you have a partner or friend who tosses a lot in their sleep, fret not, you'd hardly feel their movement despite sharing the bed - that's how sturdy and solid the bed was!
Service: Hospitality was great! We arrived early for check-in but as our room was not ready yet, we left our luggages at the lobby. When we came back later for check-in, they had already brought our luggages up to the room and the room was lighted up and with aircon turned on for our comfort. This was very welcoming as the heat in HK was absolutely a terror. The staff were always friendly and smiling, ever ready to assist us whenever we needed the help.
The shower door couldn't be closed fully, but did not pose much of an issue if we used the rain shower instead of the hand held shower head.
The toilet and showers had slightly see-through glass.

Night staffs were good. The bed was huge, it gives us a comfy night sleep, air condition was great.
Check out on 20th morning. The female staff speak mandarin right away when and try to communicate with me with mandarin all the way during the checking out procedure. The assumption is rude and ignorant. It comprised the class and standard of the hotel aimed and disappointed her guest.

Will consider staying again in Tuve for my next HK trip.
It was a very a pleasant stay and the location is very convenient (with accessible public transport & eateries nearby). The breakfast which comes with the stay was very good. Hotel staff were super nice, helpful & friendly.
Pillows were a tad too soft, and wished it was more sound proof. Was disrupted by the loud ventilator & noise fm the neighbours (esp loud talks & closing of doors).

Modern Hotel for Le Labo Fans
modern hotel with Le Labo amenities (Santal), a very sweet staff on the day of check out (she let me do my prayer in the luggage room), good location (near bus and tram stops), a lot of restaurants nearby and 2 of them are halal food restaurants
no handheld shower, no bidet or toilet shower, entrance is too dark, room is quite small, price was quite high on the day of my stay

Overall is an alright stay for the good location.
Location was good with many nice food and dessert shops around.
Very near to train station.
Not too suitable for winter. Would be a good hotel option during summer.
Rooms and shower room is cold. Unable to adjust room temperature and doesn’t have central heating.
Would be good if there were more hooks, table and bigger mirror in the room.

Great hotel for business trips and short stays.
Nice clean hotel, close to transport, shops and restaurants. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is not buffet - it's in nearby café, and as result you get only selected items and one hot drink. Not suitable for people who like big breakfast with many drinks and food selections.
