The Dean Dublin, which opened its doors in 2014 on Harcourt Street, transformed the local hospitality scene by moving away from traditional hotel aesthetics. Occupying a space that blends a converted Georgian building with a modern annex, the hotel was designed to feel like a cultural hub rather than just a place to sleep. Its interiors are famously bold, featuring eclectic art, Marshall amplifiers, and retro Smeg fridges in every room.
Music and social interaction are at the heart of its design. The hotel’s rooftop restaurant, Sophie’s, has become a landmark in its own right, offering panoramic views of the city skyline alongside wood-fired pizzas. The lobby serves as a lively social stage, intentionally creating an atmosphere that feels connected to the city’s creative energy.
The property is perfectly situated for exploring Dublin. You are within easy walking distance of the lush St. Stephen’s Green, the world-famous Grafton Street shopping district, and the historic Gaiety Theatre. Whether you are looking for culture at the Little Museum of Dublin or a stroll through one of the city’s many parks, the location puts you right in the middle of the action.
The Dean represents a deliberate break from formal hotel experiences, favoring personality and punchy, tactile design. It remains a favorite for those who appreciate a stay that feels less like a routine stopover and more like an immersive, high-energy slice of modern Dublin life.
Expert reviews
“In a six-story Georgian building, this 51-room property bears the distinction of being one of the newest hotels in Dublin’s city center. A tasteful, reasonably priced crash pad for those who want to be in the heart of the night life district.”
“Reserved and understated on the outside, unapologetically hip on the inside, The Dean blasted onto Dublin’s hotel scene in 2014. Rooms here look a little as though they’ve been transported from a Brooklyn brownstone and are given monikers such as modpods and Hi-Fis.”
“The boutique Dean Hotel, part of a terrace of Georgian townhouses, offers first-class, quirky accommodation in a city centre location. It’s young at heart, with a funky ambience plus DJs at the weekend, and its bar and restaurant are among the city’s most fashionable spaces.”

Would stay again
Got upgraded for free when wee came in, bed very comfortable
Noise levels v high in our room, tv wasn't working / connected, only one lift working which meant we were stuck in basement for several minutes

Stayed for a wedding there, but quite expensive for room sizes and facilities
Good location
Food good,
Staff very helpful
We went for a wedding which was lovely
No proper mugs/cups in rooms for making a cuppa or tea/coffee
Room very noisy at night due to the nightclub next door ( asked to move to a quieter room which we could do)

Boutique hotel with stunning roof bar/restaurant
Rooftop restaurant was terrific and location was reasonably central
Staff were a little less attentive than you might expect- particularly slow service at the bar downstairs.

Great accommodation, noisy at night
Great location, gym, and restaurant. We loved the record player in the room and all of the staff were friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, it was quite noisy at night. The accommodation provided earplugs and we found them absolutely necessary to sleep through the night.

Nice clean funky design

Well equipped, friendly staff and good location
Friendly staff, let us use the gym after the marathon so we could shower.
Electronics in the room were well known branded (Smeg, Marshall, Nespresso, Samsung), not just cheap generic ones.
Also shower had the central overhead source vs arm off the side wall.
Location was minutes walk from Grafton Street and good for the marathon start/finish
Only thing really was no early breakfast on marathon day, but hopefully they'll have it next year

Overall enjoyed this place - great location
Room was small and the bed was big so only one can walk around it at a time
Somewhere to leave cosmetics etc in the ensuite

Weekend break in Dublin
Good location. Comfy room. Helpful staff.
Decor a bit wild. Pricey but I guess it's Dublin prices!
Only one lift working to the bar.

Heated pool, great travel gym, room was EXCELLENT!

Great stay in Dublin. Great location.
Great location, very friendly staff. The rooms are very clean.
The rooms were a little bit small I could do with a few hooks on the wall

Good location, but very small rooms and noisy on weekends
The location and vibe of the hotel are incredible. Super funky design with cool amenities. Location too is fantastic. Staff was vey friendly so that made the stay nicer
Given the hotel prices are more on the expensive side, I have two things to say:
The rooms are really small - I booked a larger room and still we could barely walk around the bed. It was ok considering we only had small luggage so opening it wasn’t a big problem.
There are a few nightclubs around and on weekends you l hear the music playing until 3am. We were ok with it and somehow managed to sleep ok, but I think it’s important to consider as for some people it will be a huge issue.

Great hotel with nice, spacious rooms and a great gym
Nice hotel, beautiful and spacious room. Everything was good, not much to add. The street the hotel is on is busy with lots of bars and clubs, but as I was visiting during the work week, it wasn't noisy at all. Nice, easy walking distance to the city centre. Really really good gym in the basement of the hotel (including sauna and a small pool), which guests are allowed to use for free.

Great location, helpful staff, nice room and comfy bed.
Great location. We were worried about the noise from the nextdoor club but staff moved us and it was so quiet. Excellent gym facilities.
Big club nextdoor and some rooms overlook it

Great hotel with a real character about it. Some rooms suffer from noise from surrounding night clubs.
Really tasteful hotel with a young vibe
Noise from surrounding night clubs.

Great location, lovely place but not exactly the ‘cead míle fáilte’ that one expects in Dublin.
Great location, lovely hotel, great decor. Loved the pool, the rooftop bar. All very stylish. It’s our second time there.
Some of the staff (not all) were very arrogant and/grumpy which is a huge pity and totally unnecessary. Pity, especially as they try to sell the ‘Dublin touch’.

The Dean was overall a lovely hotel with lots of nice touches & we wish we had a bit more time there
Staff were very helpful
Room décor was lovely
Balcony was a nice addition
Beautiful big bed and was very comfortable
Drinking water (in tetrapacs) and toiletries provided (including hair conditioner)
Heated radiator for towels. Facecloths also provided.
Late check-out of 12 noon as standard
The door into the bathroom was broken (had came off the runner) and even when fixed, didn't close properly and just rolled open again. No lock on bathroom door.
Whilst balcony was a nice addition, it was beside and overlooked a building site.
No mugs were provided for tea/coffee, just two paper cups holding the teabags and sachets that we had to empty and clean before use. The cups didn't fit properly in the espresso machine. Proper mugs and cutlery would have been much nicer and more sustainable than disposable cups and spoons..
We didn't get to experience the rooftop restaurant as it was fully booked..

Great hotel for a city break
Great location for getting around Dublin. The staff there are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely designed. There was an issue with our room and they did their best to resolve it for us.
Nothing

Nice clean and quiet
Nothing - I enjoyed it

Beautiful hotel, some staff are horrendous to deal with, most are excellent.
It’s beautiful, contemporary and cosy.
Very rude staff members. Unsure if they were incompetent or just extremely rigid. But their manner was very unpleasant.
The person who checked us in and checked us out was lovely however a this was a relief. Our issue was with the staff member we spoke to over the phone re our booking, and one, perhaps the same person who was checking out someone else at the same time that we were checking out and it was so hard not to overhear and to ignore how horrible she was to this guest.

Perfect minus the noise in the morning
Clean, staff were great!
Drilling in the room next to us at 9am which was a pity
