Iveagh Garden Hotel, Dublin

Dublin 2 72 Harcourt Street, Dublin, Ireland (show on map)

The Iveagh Garden Hotel is a true Dublin gem, tucked away in the city center. It is uniquely situated right beside the Iveagh Gardens, a stunning “secret” park designed by Ninian Niven in 1865. While staying there, you can enjoy a peaceful escape that feels worlds apart from the bustling streets nearby.

The building itself has an interesting past, having been converted from a former office block into a four-star destination. The designers, John Duffy Design Group, masterfully blended the structure’s original Georgian windows with contemporary, bold aesthetics. It feels both historic and fresh, featuring emerald green marble and bespoke geometric carpets.

One of the coolest things about the hotel is its commitment to sustainability. Driven by a vision to be a low-energy building, it operates on a sophisticated renewable energy system. It even uses an underground river for its heating and cooling processes, making it a pioneer in modern, eco-friendly hospitality.

Location-wise, you are perfectly placed to explore. The famous Grafton Street, known for its vibrant shopping and dining, is just a five-minute walk away. You’re also within easy reach of cultural hotspots like the Little Museum of Dublin and the beautiful St. Stephen’s Green.

If you are a fan of literature or history, you are in luck. The Museum of Literature Ireland (MoLI) is very close, offering a deep dive into Ireland’s rich storytelling heritage. Between the park views and the nearby landmarks, it is a fantastic spot to experience the best of Dublin.

Expert reviews

New York Times review:

“The chic Iveagh Garden Hotel has rooms in a range of sizes, decked out in green and blue velvet accents and with generous bathrooms. The hotel backs onto the lush Iveagh Gardens and is walking distance from many city sights.”

Very comfortable overnight stay

The room was lovely. Very comfortable bed and pillows. I thought the room looking onto the street would be an issue with noise but this was not the case. Very nice room. Didn't spend much time elsewhere int he hotel

A very enjoyable stay!

Breakfast was excellent- great selection to accommodate all tastes!
Coffee and tea replenished on request - everyone in our party of 9 satisfied!

Don’t like the toilet roll and tissues but appreciate they’re environmentally friendly.

Was a part of the Rick Steves group.

The room size and location were great.

The toilet flush was random and the hair dryer did not work well.

Really good - will return

Everything - staff and food excellent

Parking 10 mins away - not ideal but it is realistic for a city centre hotel

It was nice, but not the best hotel I’ve stayed in.

It was close to many places I wanted to visit.

Air conditioning unit sat on the floor. Too loud to leave on at night. I left the window open to get some cool air, and it was noisy outside. So didn’t sleep well.

A second lovely stay!

This was our second stay here after traveling around Ireland we returned to the same hotel we began our trip. It was just as pleasant a stay with equally helpful staff.

Though we initially loved the room that overlooked the main road, at night it was extremely noisy because of the folks enjoying themselves. It was a fun experience, but I do think it would be best for staff to inform guests that it may get quiet load during the weekend evenings if your room overlooks the street.

A lovely stay and intro for our first visit to Dublin

The location was perfect! We loved that it was near the hustle and bustle but also seemingly in a relatively quiet area. Also the staff were lovely and helpful

Nice try but odd

Lovely property near Iveagh Gardens
Great room bath
Comfy beds
Ali the modcons

The sheets/blankets were installed on the bed so that the top ones only came up to just.past.one"s waist - most curious and annoying.
The reception staff were very sweet and did try hard but were such ditzes that every issue they encountered ended in caos - and a crescendo of "No problems" from them - quite amusing in total but also a bit pathetic.

Warm welcome, professional care, and good humoured hard working staff. Will recommend. Will return.

Location was perfect. Check in was brilliant. We had a pro handling a minor wrinkle- he did it with ease. The staff need to be praised. No matter who interacted with me, they were warm, welcoming and genuinely good humoured excellent.

It's only a wee tiny thing. Re the WiFi. Once the network is selected, and password input, when the browser page tries to redirect to a sign in, to accept t&c's ... an error page pops up. I was able to repromt, but it could be a wee niggle if the customer was a tourist who wasn't confident with English... really not a major thing, but I can see how it could cause people to come to your desk.

Lovely hotel, great location but noisy street may put off some.

Good location in terms of proximity to Dublin centre, room nicely done and comfortable, friendly and helpful staff. Nice bar with fair prices and fairly good breakfast.

Main issue was room was very hot and had to sleep with windows open and it’s a very noisy street with night clubs (ok with ear plugs tho). WiFi didn’t work at all in room as signal too poor and they have a little room tablet but lots of functions didn’t work on it.

Great hotel to stay and discover Dublin!

The hotel looks very classy and fancy. It is well decorated. For us the location was great, not in a noisy area (it is across a popular club, but we did not hear any noice, not even in the weekend) walking distance to nice shopping and eating areas. Directly in front of a nice park to stroll in the morning. The room itself was spacious, clean and complete with all important amenities. The beds are good, lots of space in the room for 2 people. It was the perfect base for us to stay and discover Dublin. Plenty of restaurants within 5-10 mins walking.

The shower took forever to heat up. Sometimes 15 mins. But after complaining we were told it is because the room had some kind of geothermic heating system. They offered a new room, but we declined as we were all settled in and we just left the water running for a few mins. After 5-6 mins the temperature was ok enough.

The staff are amazing

The staff were really lovely, especially the bar staff and reception. Very informative and friendly.
It was also nice to go to the sister hotel in the evening, just down the road.

Found it very hard to work the TV (it would freeze on the menu, very temperamental) and not many options on there - we were hoping to listen to music whilst getting ready.

Great for a night out! Modern, stylish hotel

Great location for a night out as your extremely central

It was expensive considering we hadn’t breakfast included and there’s no on site Car park. That’s another extra you have to pay for
