Rosewood Mansion at Turtle Creek, Dallas
Set back in Dallas’s upscale Uptown neighborhood, the Rosewood Mansion at Turtle Creek is a legendary luxury hotel that serves as the flagship property where the global Rosewood brand first began. Originally built in 1925 as a private, Italian Renaissance-style estate for cotton magnate Sheppard King, the mansion was saved from demolition in 1979 and officially opened its doors as a boutique hotel and restaurant in 1981.
The property is packed with fascinating architectural treasures that the King family collected during frequent travels across Europe. Guests walking through the historic estate will spot grand entry doors salvaged from a 19th-century Spanish cathedral, 16th-century marble columns from an Italian palace near Rome, and an antique German fireplace. Over the years, these gorgeous spaces have hosted iconic figures ranging from President Franklin D. Roosevelt to Tennessee Williams.
While Dallas architecture firm Three and acclaimed interior designer Thomas Pheasant completely refreshed the lobby and its 142 guest rooms to offer modern, residential comfort, they made sure to preserve the historic spirit. For instance, they collaborated with the local Casci Ornamental Plaster company—whose founder worked on the original 1925 library ceiling—to hand-craft a stunning, intricate plaster dome in the entry rotunda.
The hotel’s premier location along the winding banks of Turtle Creek leaves you close to the city’s best cultural stops. It is a quick drive to the thriving Dallas Arts District, where you can explore the Dallas Museum of Art and the Nasher Sculpture Center, or enjoy a sunny stroll along Klyde Warren Park.
Expert reviews
“Once the swank home of a cotton magnate (in the 1920s and 1930s), today this is where the celebrities, politicos, and business tycoons tend to stay. You’ll understand why. Guestrooms are huge, with an upgraded country club décor.”

“Situated in the leafy residential area of Turtle Creek, with instant access to Dallas, the lovely Mansion on Turtle Creek retains the ambiance of a distinguished residence. It’s elegant — but unfussy— and exquisitely epitomizes the city’s sense of style.”
