The Peninsula, Bangkok

333 Charoen Nakhon Rd, Khlong San, Khet Khlong San, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10600, Thailand (show on map)

Opened in 1998 along the Chao Phraya River, The Peninsula Bangkok is an architectural standout on the city’s skyline. The 37-story tower features a clever, wave-shaped design. This specific blueprint wasn’t just for aesthetics; it ensures that every single one of its 370 rooms and suites gets an uninterrupted view of the “River of Kings.”

The hotel is famous for its ultimate luxury arrivals. Wealthy travelers can bypass city traffic entirely by landing on the private rooftop helipad, which connects directly to the Paribatra aviation lounge on the 37th floor. For those arriving by water, the hotel operates a fleet of beautifully restored, traditional Thai rice barges to ferry guests across the river.

Inside, the property seamlessly blends state-of-the-art tech with classic Thai colonial style, featuring rich silk furnishings and gleaming teak floors. Even the marble bathrooms are high-tech, equipped with a built-in TV and a control panel over the bathtub so you can adjust the mood lighting and music without stepping out of the water.

Outside, a stunning 88-meter, three-tiered swimming pool cascades down toward the riverbank, flanked by traditional relaxation salas. It is a brilliant design that makes this massive urban high-rise feel like a peaceful, secluded resort.

Expert reviews

Fodors review:

“There are a handful of super luxurious hotels in Bangkok, and the Peninsula should be considered one of the finest of the group. Situated on the west side of the Chao Phraya River, the hotel defines quality with spacious river-view rooms, incredible drinking and dining options, and a world-class spa.”

Featured as Fodor’s Choice in Bangkok.

Frommers review:

“Though taller and sleeker than the Mandarin Oriental, which it faces across the Chao Phraya River, the Peninsula lives somewhat in the shadow of its illustrious neighbor. Yet when you compare all aspects of each, the Peninsula comes out very favorably.”

Featured as Frommer’s Exceptional Choice in Bangkok.

Forbes review:

“First opened in 1998, The Peninsula Bangkok is a well-loved luxury property in the Thai capital. Though the city has seen a recent influx of trendy, branded properties, The Peninsula Bangkok retains a prominent place on the landscape, thanks to its classic look and au courant amenities.”

Telegraph review:

“The Peninsula is a riverside hotel that offers fantastic views of Bangkok’s skyline from its 370 rooms. A classic chain hotel, this luxury edifice nevertheless exudes seasoned oriental charm with great service and a fantastically placed Thai restaurant overlooking the water.”

My third stay and never disappoints

The variety at the terrace restaurant is one of the best I’ve experienced in the world

I think you handled the busy Chinese New Year very well but I think more tables should be placed on the lawn area so people wouldn’t need to go to the alternate restaurant

You'll feel like you've died and gone to heaven

You'll feel like you've died and gone to heaven staying here. It's that good. You're surrounded by beautiful architecture, stylish furniture and tasteful objects. Every room has a river view and the hotel's tiny ferries will take you across the river to the overhead rail station or along the river for nearby shopping and sight seeing.
The breakfast is one of the best in S-E Asia - a veritable feast of freshly prepared food from mango or strawberry yoghourt to eggs benedict, etc. etc. You can fly in by helicopter or, if you're like me, leave in a well priced local taxi booked through the desk. There's even the offer of a twice weekly free tour of a klong led by a local archaeologist - book quickly. Enjoy.

I thought a more expansive list of things to do near the hotel could be developed. For example, a long boat visit to Bang Luang Canal [not just the twice weekly tour]; a walk around Talat Noi and past the Holy Rosary Church and the handsome Siam Commercial Bank by the river. Or a relaxing trip along the river in a regular public ferry

A truly authentic and memorable stay—if the peninsula takes the next step and make its operations even more environmenta

Authentic Thai-style hotel with happy, genuinely helpful staff. I’m honestly so bored of the global “same-same” hotel design these days—most places look identical wherever you are in the world. So it was refreshing to find a hotel that feels truly Thai, with regional character and a sense of history front and center. That’s what makes it so unique.

Great location too, plus a free shuttle in a traditional Thai boat to ICONSIAM and the Mandarin Oriental. Rooms are very stylish yet highly functional. Excellent activities as well—like 6am sunrise yoga at a riverside shrine, cooking classes, and more.

It could be more environmental friendly, e.g Glass bothles instead of Aluminium and local Soap, Shampoo etc.. In dispensers Like the six Senses in Kho Yao Noi

Gorgeous Hotel, wonderful staff

This hotel is beautiful, the rooms have everything you need in them and the staff go out of their way to help you. There is a complimentary riverboat to take you to the shopping mall or the other side of the river whenever you want. The breakfast is exceptional and the service by the pool is wonderful. We had a marvellous day and wish we could’ve stayed longer.

Nothing, it’s perfect

Lovely stay over all

Stayed for the first time at the peninsula and will def stay again . It was beautiful

The breakfast was not included in our room so we were pay 1400 bath per person , for that amount I feel the coffee could be better and more choices for breakfast

Lived in comfort and style with amazing staff, food and amenities.

It was a classic style property which had everything you could want . It was one of the best rooms we’ve ever had (and we’ve been around) with a beautiful view . Great location on the river and next to IconSiam. We could not fault this property or the service or the food . Absolutely loved it and glad I’ll be going back in 2 weeks

I wish it was in Melbourne !
