Hostel The Hat, Madrid

Love how the social activities was planned. Stayed in 4 female dorm and the bed was pretty comfortable. All the Staff were pretty friendly and met some amazing people. Best hostel stay so far !

The stuff was amazing and welcoming. It seemed like the genuinely wanted to make my stay, the best stay. And they succeeded. I will return.

Very central location. All the main tourist attractions are within walking distance. You may not need to use public transport at all. The building is old but well equipped. WiFi works and they clean the bathrooms very often. In fact, you may be better off booking the dormitory with shared bathroom instead of the dormitory with private bathroom. I booked the 12-bed dorm with a bathroom inside. There is only one shower stall and one toilet stall in that room for 12 people to share. I used the common bathrooms available outside my dorm room instead. There are two shower stalls and two toilets in each common bathroom and there is one such bathroom on each floor for men and women separately. They clean those bathrooms much more often than the one inside the dormitory.

I loved everything in this hostel that’s the first time staying at a hostel and I can’t imagine the better option than this one :) the staff was amazing especially Manuela was the best person for me during my stay however all of the receptionists are very amicable people. I loved sangria workshop too and Abdullah is the master of sangria ☺️is very very friendly person, thank you so much guys if I am back to Madrid again no doubts that I will be there ☺️🙏🏻🌸

I have stayed at The Hat many times in the past 3 years. Love the Sangria making. Staff is great, location is great. Bed are comfy, rooms are clean. But wow, the price has really gone up for a dorm room! I know everything has gotten more expensive but a dorm bed for $75 is a lot! I wish they offered discounts for repeat visitors.

The location is perfect, near Placa Mayor and all the other attractions. The rooms are very clean and the drawer for your stuff is big enough. The staff is also helpful and ready to answer questions. There is a rooftop bar. Towels and padlocks are paid extra. The breakfast looked great.

There was only one shower and one toilet for 8 people. As the room was detached from the main property, there wasn’t an option to use another toilet/shower. There were extra toilets near the kitchen (in the main building), but no showers.

It was my first time in hostel. It was waaay beyond my expectations. Location is amazing, beds are comfortable, bathroom is super clean. The staff is amazing and helpful. I will definitely come back again.

I liked everything.

From the moment we arrived to the Hat we felt welcomed. Gorka and the staff make you feel right at home. We had some personal inconveniences and he helped us fix them and get with our trip. The facilities and activities were great. The city tour and guide were great and very informative. I would recommend this place to all my friends. Thank you.

Amazing and clean hostel

For a hostel, the place is very comfortable and clean. The price was high for a shared dorm room but the central location is probably the reason for that.

Great location, very clean and well run hostel. The beds are very comfy (with two pillows!!) and offer great privacy. Staff are very accommodating and friendly. The bar on the roof terrace is a great place to relax and meet fellow travellers.

No breakfasts and apart from the terrace bar there isn't a huge communal area to relax and meet people. The bar crawls and events are good although a little expensive compared to other hostels. But still affordable andbgoodnfun

Very friendly staff, good breakfast and great location. The bar on the roof was also very nice though a bit expensive. Everyday walking tours start from the hostel at 2 different hours. The commodities near the hostel are great, restaurants, supermarkets and tourist attractions.

The room I was on was very small so if other guest were also up it was a bit awkard and cramped moving around and because of that any noise at night is really loud. The beds also were not the most comfortable.

The staff and the structure are great. The vibes and the events they create to interact the guests are amazing too.

The beds were comfortable, and both the room and bathroom were very clean. The hostel is situated in a nice neighbourhood and had an hotel vibe.

Very friendly staff and other people, comfortable beds with everything needed, kitchen and nice terrace. Also important to mention that the location is super centric. At breakfast you have all the basic things and also is very traditional.

You never know with whom you’ll share the room so we got a couple of disrespectful girls who made a lot of Joyce during the night, but nothing to do with the hostel itself :)

The Hat hostel has great location. You can also get a map from the reception. The staff is very warm and helpful. My bed was very comfortable with enough shelf space for the personal stuff. The luggage locker was also big enough even for my large suitcase. The breakfast is very tasty and in addition to the standard selection, there was also something different every day. The hostel has also nice rooftop terrace.

The dormitory with private bathroom/toilet had metal doors on metal rails. Those were quite noisy (some cushions for the rails would be nice). Also the light above the sink was shining straight to my eyes even when my bed curtain was closed (maybe it could be just recommended to use only the bed lights in the middle of the night, for late commers). I understand that some noise is expected in the dormitory, however getting woke up because of those at 4/5 AM was not pleasant.

The location was perfect. The staff was very helpful. I thought it was very clean. I only stayed one night, so I can't comment on the overall cleanliness. The bed was very comfortable. I recommend it.

The stay was great! The room was spacious, and had plenty of storage for your luggage and personal belongings. There were lockers and hooks in the room and a shelf, a couple of hooks, and a plug with some usb plug-ins as well. The bathroom was nice, with a good shower, and stocked well with toilet paper and soap for washing hands. The location was great, close to Plaza Mayor and within walking distance to the metro.

It was close to the train system and the historical district. The staff made us feel welcome immediately. The common area was very accessible and well kept. They had a restaurant upstairs on the rooftop that was very convenient and reasonable with good food. They offered a workshop in making Sangria, which I thought was a great community building offer, even though I was too tired to take part. There were locks offered for the personal storage areas. It was friendly, safe and comfortable stay that I would highly recommend.

Friendly and helpful staff. Its location is perfect for simply strolling, finding things to do and enjoying without haste. If you don’t like walking too much or need to go further there are many bus stops nearby and train stations. The social spaces are spacious. There are even more bathrooms that can be used if the room’s bathroom is occupied. They also have activities to meet other guests.

Very stylish hostel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We were glad for their secure luggage storage before and after check-out. It's in a locked room with a baggage tag like you would expect at a hotel. Beds were comfortable.

We booked into the 8 bed dorm thinking it had large windows based the photos, but I guess they just have had different rooms with 8 beds because ours didn't have the window.

OMG the location - right in the heart of old Madrid - just gorgeous. Check in was super-easy. The beds are really comfortable, with individual lights and curtains for privacy, and the private bathrooms very well set up. Bonus points for the excellent Spanish breakfast spread for only 7 Euros, served by a super-competent local lady. Do the walking tour if you can, it's great.

I would like it if the rooftop bar were a little more friendly - with more opportunity to mix with other guests. Many people sitting alone on their phones was a bit sad to see. Also the snacks were overpriced for the low (supermarket) quality.

The location was very central and close to everything. The breakfast was varied and there was something you were sure to like. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a market right in front. Thank you so much for everything.

The hostel was very nice and comfortable with friendly stuff and excellent location.

The only thing I didn't like was that I was not able to buy a coffee in the roof cafe in the morning. My friend was having breakfast there and I wanted to keep her company. As I was not hungry I wanted to have a coffee. However, the stuff told me to go downstairs to drink coffee, as they served it only to people who buy breakfast in the mornings. It was a bit disappointing.
