New York Times review:

“History buffs and those in search of views and solitude will appreciate Q Station’s smartly refurbished rooms and historic cottages located inside a nook of the Sydney Harbour National Park in Manly. The grounds are dotted with historic buildings where guests can pass the time as quarantined migrants once did, playing billiards, table tennis or savoring the views of Sydney Harbour over cups of tea.”

Great place to stay in a natural environment while close to the sights of Sydney.

Location, quiet room, lovely views

Cost of BBQ buffet arranged by our conference organiser - $85 for a basic BBQ didn't represent good value for money.

Beautiful location

Great location, beautiful views of Sydney Harbour. The shuttle service is good, drive you down to your room and pick you up. Lots of history behind Q Station We ordered uber eats on the first night, and reception brought it to our room, plates, and cutlery. Nice and peaceful place to stay.

I'm not a fan of leaving the room to use the bathroom, shower, fill up your kettle, especially in the middle of the night, found it a bit creepy but there are rooms with a bathroom so look out for that. There were cobwebs with live spiders around the windows, and I was a bit worried they'd crawl down while sleeping. The TV lags and always drops out.

Pleasant

No a/c and no openable windows, couldn’t leave doors open to catch the breeze without wildlife entering room. Made for uncomfortable night.

Pleasant

The beach was actually beautiful. It is a short drive to get into manly. The whole place had so much character and history. We wish we had been there during a ghost tour. The grounds are beautiful and easy to walk if you have a moderate level of fitness. There was wildlife around to see as well.

My kids slept on the sofa bed and they were not very comfortable. They said the mattress kept falling through the springs.

Overnight at the Quarantine Station

This is a unique hotel that cannot be compared to typical accommodation. The setting is so interesting, and what the owners have done to preserve the essence of the site to make a viable hotel is remarkable. The rooms are clean, comfortable and have everything expected from a good hotel, whilst being housed in historic buildings. The heritage element has been carefully blended with what clients will expect for the price. It hasn't been made into an 'exclusive' destination, which might have been the case, given the location and amazing views over Sydney harbour. We visited for the history and were not disappointed. The shuttle buses were very useful for moving around the site, and getting in and out of Manly. It was good that there are no cars on site, and it was very peaceful, with attention to wildlife habitat. The breakfast was as expected, with plenty of food choice and attentive staff keeping things topped up. We didn't dine on site, but the menu advertised at the restaurant didn't seem prohibitive. We chose to stay overnight so that we could join the 'after-dark history tour' which finished near to midnight, and do the 11am tour the following morning. The two tours didn't over-lap too much in content. The staff in the visitor centre were much more tuned in to the historical significance of the site than those on the hotel reception desk.

We felt that information beforehand, from the website, was a little vague and we had lots of questions mulling around on arrival. For example, the distinction between the 'wharf precinct' on site and Manly wharf where the ferry arrives wasn't clear until after we had been given a stylised map of the site. Signage to some places on the site was needed. The night-time tour seems to be having a bit of an identity issue. Comments online were calling it a 'ghost tour' that wasn't terribly well-received by clients expecting to have actors leaping out at them. It was billed as a new 'after-dark history tour' when we booked and we thought this had removed the gimmicky aspect, which it did. It was still referred to as a ghost tour on signage on site. We really didn't know what to expect, and the information about it could be much clearer. In the event, it was saved by the tour-guide's knowledge, and his meshing of historical events with the supernatural. It was actually more about looking for ghosts around the site and considering the possibilities. Moving around the old buildings in the dark was certainly a unique experience.

A good chill out holiday but definitely not luxurious

The location was awesome and we appreciated the effort made to preserve the historical aspects. We walked a lot up and down the pathways. The boiler house restaurant was excellent.

Breakfast was not up to standard with minimal selection, supermarket bread and the hot dishes only lukewarm. We didn't bother going on our third day.. More crockery is needed in the accommodation. We had only two stained mugs which were not replaced during our three day stay.

Brilliant stay, lovely staff, gorgeous location. Would recommend!

The shuttle service was amazing, without that it would have been hard. The beach was fantastic as was the breakfast. The most lovely and helpful staff, too.

Rooms were quite hot and stuffy as no air con, and the bathroom got very humid because there was no window.

My stay was very pleasant and I greatly enjoyed the location.

Location, was nice to walk around the site. Also, easy to access Manly restaurants.

Probably overlooked it, but didn't know I couldn't park my car at the room. Wasn't a problem though. I'm a big tea drinker, so more tea and milk at room would be good.

Great location for a work retreat

The fact that we could meet, stay and dine in the same location.

The amount of time waiting for a transfer up and down. The fact the bar closed at 10.30 pm.

We enjoyed our stay but felt that for the price we paid service and facilities could have been better

Location Comfortable bed Good breakfast Good shower Plenty of hot water

Walls thin… could hear neighbours talking. As the only place to eat on site in the evening was very expensive it would have been useful to have access to plates and cutlery… We often had to wait longer than expected for shuttle service. We would request a room with a view next time… we just overlooked another block. Fan made a funny noise occasionally… which woke us up at night. Staff not that concerned after we had been disturbed by power cut one night and clock alarm going off unexpectedly the next night following the power cut. Power cut left us unable to communicate with reception even via mobiles as there was no back up number ( until one provided the following morning). Should be in general information. When it was very hot in the absence of air con screens would have been very helpful…. It did get very hot at night. TV kept pixelating

Something different and unique - not a bad place to base your Sydney adventure

Its a beautiful property and the rooms were super clean, comfortable and well put together. Super interesting to learn of the former history of the site. And great to be away from the hustle and bustle with nice water views of Manly Wharf. The staff on the shuttles were friendly and welcoming, and the shuttles were frequent. It wasn't as inconvenient as I thought it might be. The shuttles into Manly helped us save a lot on parking costs. And a ferry direct to the CBD meant exploring the city was easy, back to Manly Corso for dinner, and a free shuttle back to our rooms meant it was all pretty seamless and stress free.

We arrived at 8pm to a power outage across the facility. It happened to be on a high 30 degree day, no air-con and no ceiling fan meant we had to leave the door open to cool down the room, with people going back and forth on the balcony until midnight or so - there was no privacy, with random people even peaking their heads into our room to talk to us. Showers in the dark with our phone lights as candles. Power came back on in the middle of the night sometime maybe around 3-4am which was the only saving grace, so we were able to charge our phones for the next day which was an all-dayer in the CBD. Without our phones charged it would have been a disaster for us. Thankfully there was a nice sea breeze and no mosquitos so having the door open as we slept wasn't so bad after all... I still think we'd return in future, as we liked it there and without the power outage, we'd have given it 9.

Very good

Really friendly staff. The private beach was nice. It was fairly quiet and in a beautiful location where we could see wild animals like bandicoots, turkeys, magpies, lizards and spiders. The shuttle bus was handy. The food at the boilrerhouse restaurant was amazing but really expensive.

No air conditioning in the rooms. It was really hot and we were not able to cool the room down even with the doors open and both fans going. No bathrooms in the rooms, the bathrooms are stand alone buildings. The Boilerhouse restaurant was pretty expensive as they only had 2 or 3 course meals and the payment screen was asking if we wanted to give a gratuity/tip which is really odd. We had to leave the car at the reception area car park and could not drive the car to our room at any time.

Our "Isolation" room was not as pleasing as the rooms we were allocated on 2 previous stays.

Beautiful quiet location.

We thought we would have a Harbour view from our Verandah but did not. Kitchen and shower taps dripped. Kitchen cupboards looked grubby and were something salvaged out of the 1960s. Boiler house restaurant was not serving light meals on the three nights we were there, only offered a very expensive 2 or 3 course set menu.

A different experience to what you'd expect in Sydney, in a good way.

Relaxing location with fantastic views over Manly Harbour. Clean an functional rooms.

Shuttle bus service was a bit hit and miss over the weekend, but provided you were not in a hurry, it got you to where you wanted to go eventually.

Pleasant

Comfortable, secluded and relaxing

I arrived at check in time of 2pm only to be told that they had one group of cleaning staff and my room was not ready. Not good enough when I had a wedding to get ready for and was rushed.. other than that was a great stay.
