Expert reviews

New York Times review:

“Part of a new wave of well-designed cheap hotels with noticeably smaller rooms, Point A offers extremely comfortable beds, small bathrooms and a great breakfast just steps from many of the bars, restaurants and other attractions in the City Centre, perhaps making the lack of space somewhat less of an issue.”

Safe, clean, modern spot in a great location for exploring Glasgow

Great location, feels safe, modern hotel with compact but clean and comfortable rooms. Staff very attentive and happy to chat.

A complementary coffee (as no facilities in room) would be a nice touch. Late checkout is £25 which is disproportionate - some flexibility would go a long way to building customer care.

Very good

The location was fantastic, close to everything in the city. The room was clean and comfortable. We got a good deal so excellent value for the room we got. Great for an overnight in Glasgow.

Only issue was the tv not working well but it didn't ruin our overall experience!

The room was clean, the shower was good, the bed was comfortable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location is excellent for the city center.

I would like the room to have a kettle. But this is a minor issue

Pleasant

Great location, value for money and astonishing staff.

The rooms were very very tiny. Plus I believe that 11£ was a bit much for the quality and quantity of breakfast. Otherwise if someone wants a place only to sleep it's really good.

Loved how clean the room was

The air con did cause issues through the night and bit loud.

Very good

Staff were excellent and very helpful, we have stayed before and we both love the quirky room lighting, plus the room was clean. Location for the hotel was also great.

The tv reception was bad, bit we were out exploring most of the time. The room.was clean, but a little rough around the edges, such shelves were unsecure, some of the coatings on furniture were falling off creating sharpe edges, general wear and tear.

Basic but fine for an overnight stay

Great location for the concert hall. Good price. Staff are friendly. We got discount at The Tea Rooms up the road, when we showed our room card.

Bed wasn't very comfortable, only one pillow. It's fine for one evening, not having a kettle or drinking water in the room, and needing to bring up from the foyer is inconvenient.

Very good

Friendly and helpful staff. Nice comfortable bed.

Room was far too warm, air con only goes down to 19 degrees I would prefer it to go down to 16 degrees. The upgraded rooms on 4th floor don't seem any different to rooms on 1st or 2ndd floor. The hallway does have new carpeting. I would like to see non slip mats/stickers on the base of all showeres as once water hit the base it becomes very slippy and a potential hazard for a fall.

Good, but improvements can be made.

Breakfast was good.

Windows cannot be opened, so no possibility to get some fresh air. No kettle in a room, so to get a hot drink was not free of charge and I had to go to the reception.

Really good budget option in central location.

This is a very well designed hotel, and is very much at the higher end of budget hotels, with good attention to detail. This was my first visit to both this hotel, and the Point A chain. I like the concept and would certainly stay again. The room made really good use of the small amount of space. I'd chosen a windowless room, which really didn't matter to me, as I was only looking for a place to sleep before taking place in the Glasgow Kiltwalk. The automated check in was a little annoying, but the the reception staff were on hand to help out, and all of the staff I dealt with in the hotel, for check in, when having breakfast and when leaving my luggage the following day, were all excellent. This certainly isn't a luxury hotel, but for those on a budget it will offer everything hat you need for a night or two if you don't plan to spend a lot of time in your room.

The TV only seemed to have 3 or 4 random channels tuned in, the others had poor reception or weren't available, I rarely use a hotel TV but happened to put it on for thirty minutes or so as I was having a very early night before a busy weekend. The breakfast area seemed a little crowded. The are itself is very nice and there are plenty of tables in quite a funky layout, but the actual self service area is small and gets very crowded. I probably wouldn't chose breakfast in future as there are many other options locally, although I will admit the coffee from the coffee machine was exceptionally good. Perhaps the best I have tasted that wasn't barista made.

Excellent location for enjoying this area of Edinburgh.

Staff were friendly, knowledgeable about the area, location was perfect. Good restaurants and pubs nearby.

Hotel doesn't have any outdoor space, but it's in a densely built-up, historical area, so not surprising.

Modern, compact and bijou.

Comfortable, modern budget hotel. Surprisingly well appointed rooms.

Rooms are a bit cramped , if more than one is staying. No windows in some rooms, but you know that before you buy.

Great ideas but the minimalism loses functionality

I loved the location, the 24 hour staff, the modernness and of course, the party lights! I did really like the lighting overall

I hated the bathroom door. It was frosted glass and didn't close. It has like a rubber stopper seal (and not a real seal) with no catch so you can't close the door entirely, lock it or mitigate smells/sounds. It also had the loudest squeak. I don't know if the air con settings reset every time or it saves the last one used but the first night, the air conditioning was so loud I could barely sleep and thought it was really stormy outside for most of the night. The tiny ledge table in between the beds was broken - it was just slightly at an angle - so everything you put on it slid right off and it was the only option for one bed so there was nowhere to put my stuff and also no charging port for the furthest away bed. Also the mirror with the fold out desk makes no sense because when sitting there, you can't see most of your face in the mirror, otherwise would have been perfect for doing your makeup

Convenient, but cramped.

The location was convenient, and staff were very helpful

For two people (twin) the room was much too small. There was not enough room to open two suitcases, and bedside storage was only beside one bed. Charging the phone was awkward.

Good value for money

Nice clean and close to the station. Nice hairdryer and the staff was polite.

There were no plugs on one side of the bed and the water pressure was terrible. The breakfast was very limited and the coffee was not good.

Fabulous

Superb location, within short walk to Buchanan Station. Very helpful staff. Very clean. The room was super tiny but with lots of useful space perks like drop-down tables. Perfect for one night, but would be too claustrophobic for a longer stay. Comfortable bed, clean bathroom.

Constant buzz from ventilation which cannot be switched off. I was freezing as switching the AC on 'hot' meant additional loud buzz which i couldn't stand even in earplugs. Fortunately the duvet was very warm ;)
