Expert reviews

New York Times review:

“Part of a new wave of well-designed cheap hotels with noticeably smaller rooms, Point A offers extremely comfortable beds, small bathrooms and a great breakfast just steps from many of the bars, restaurants and other attractions in the City Centre, perhaps making the lack of space somewhat less of an issue.”

Shortlisted in New York Times’ 36 Hours in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

My stay at Point A

Great location, decent price-quality ratio, the room was clean, spacious (considering it was the cheapest one they offer), lounge was accessable for everyone.

I had to do the check in myself without anyone instructing me even though there were 2 staff members present at the reception a there was noone other than me. The check in process was easy but I'd expect a different approach ((on the other hand when I was checking out, the receptionist automatically offered to do it for me which I appreaciate))

Great location and staff

Every member of staff was lovely and friendly. The look of the hotel for being a 3-star place was really impressive. Our room had everything we needed and the LED lights were very cool.

Having some toast at breakfast would have been lovely, or the ability to make our own tea and coffee. The machines are managed by staff, both at reception and in the breakfast area. Our room really wasn't the cleanest and would put me off staying here again, sadly. My son found a lighter behind the bed. The counters in the bathroom and the glasses looked like they'd been swiped with a cloth but not cleaned. Under the beds (where we put our luggage) hadn't been cleaned in some time.

Fabulous

Great location to central station and city center. Standard bedrooms.

When other residents / cleaners were walking the hallway you could hear every footstep.

Pleasant

The location was perfect, the staff were nice and the design of the hotel (in addition to the location) made me want to come there to have rest multiple times on a rainy day

The air conditioning system. It was loud when turned on and it was very cold without it The bathroom was a bit strange - you can’t lock the door so it kept opening itself all the time, depriving from privacy (if you are staying not alone)

A sensible and safe place to stay for a solo traveler and quick trip.

For exploring the busy city center, and close to the central bus station and main train station, and shopping, this place works out well. It's very modern and futuristic, and the colored room lighting was fun (I did yellow for morning and light blue for night!). My included breakfast was good, and the room felt safe.

Why don't all hotels still have suitcase racks? My suitcase had to go on the floor. And why no gripper floors on the tiny showers with the awkward pocket doors? I had to use a hand towel on the shower floor, so I didn't slip. Since I booked an economy price, I had no window, and that felt odd and a bit claustophobic. I walked two miles to the riverside attractions, and that was fine, but then it rained, so I took a taxi back.

A Nice Stay.

Very nice room and comfortable bed. I booked a room with no window, the bonus of this is no street noise. Lovely hot shower and plenty towels, they do provide shower and hair wash. I had a hairdryer in my room, also a television with a few radio channels which was appreciated as the TV did not have programmes on I cared for, so was able to listen to radio in my room in the evening. The staff at this hotel are very pleasant, helpful and nothing is ever too much bother. I also received help to find a theatre I was attending. This was all very much appreciated. I also appreciate the fact that no dogs (apart from assistance dogs) are accepted here. I have asthma and dogs being everywhere now can be rather problematic for me. It's difficult to find dog free places. Dogs can also be noisy.

I do miss tea/coffee in the room, but it's a small inconvenience. The heating in the room is rather noisy and a bit fiddly. However, I found if you turn the fan to low and then adjust the temperature to what you want, it seemed better and a bit less noisy with the fan low. I honestly have to say that given this, I still slept ok. It did not affect me greatly, but do appreciate it may be a problem for other people. If I'm honest I did think my room for the night was rather expensive this time around, but it may have been down to the fact it was very near Easter Weekend and this can make a difference in price to most places.

Very good

The room was spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable and the room was good and quiet. The breakfast buffet was excellent. As a base, it worked very well

The room was small. Originally I was meant to stay with my cousin and it would have been cramped with the two of us in there. It was also rather expensive- though, to be fair, so was everywhere else in Glasgow last night

Fabulous

The position was very central. Staff was welcoming and the room also tidy and quiet.

The only drawback was the AC. It did not work well but the girl in the reception was kind enough to give me a portable heater. However, sometimes during the night, the AC would turn on by itself suddenly and blow cold air.

Fabulous

Really nice location, with a lot of restaurants, pubs and at 10 minutes to George Square. The room is small but well equipped, with a big bed. Really kind stuff.

Room with no windows. You can pay for a room with window but not included, as expected.

Pleasant stay and would book again!

Check In was easy and the staff were friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. The location was great and you can get a half price discount at the nearby car park.

In the twin room a bedside table at the second bed would be handy. There was no tea/coffee facilities in the room (you can get at reception for a reasonable price). Beds only had one pillow each and one more towel would have been handy or something for the floor when you step out of the shower.
