The Dean Hotel, Dublin

33 Harcourt St, Saint Kevin's, Dublin 2, Ireland (show on map)

Expert reviews

New York Times review:

“In a six-story Georgian building, this 51-room property bears the distinction of being one of the newest hotels in Dublin’s city center. A tasteful, reasonably priced crash pad for those who want to be in the heart of the night life district.”

The Guardian review:

“Reserved and understated on the outside, unapologetically hip on the inside, The Dean blasted onto Dublin’s hotel scene in 2014. Rooms here look a little as though they’ve been transported from a Brooklyn brownstone and are given monikers such as modpods and Hi-Fis.”

Telegraph review:

“The boutique Dean Hotel, part of a terrace of Georgian townhouses, offers first-class, quirky accommodation in a city centre location. It’s young at heart, with a funky ambience plus DJs at the weekend, and its bar and restaurant are among the city’s most fashionable spaces.”

What guests liked

All you need to know

A major partner of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 2017, the Dean Dublin is a boutique hotel located in Dublin city center, only a few yards from the Gaiety Theatre. The St Patrick’s Cathedral and Old Jameson distillery are only a few minutes’ walk away from its front doors. The hotel is surrounded by the city’s bars and clubs and guests can easily become immersed in the rich culture and traditions of the neighborhood.

When not soaking up this excitement, guests can relax in air conditioned rooms that include a TV, minibar, coffee machine, electric kettle and private bathroom with a shower, hairdryer and free toiletries. The rooms even offer city views. The property is newly designed with vibrant colors and that vibrancy clearly extends to each room.

On Conde Nast Traveller hot list, the hotel prides itself on separating it’s self from the conventional. It boasts a rooftop bar and restaurant. The restaurant has a 270 degree view of the city. The effect is truly mesmerizing, just as is the entire stay at this one-of-a-kind hotel. This view and city is best enjoyed with a partner and this hotel is great for couples.

Great location, great vibe in a modern and spacious hotel

Great location, very nice breakfast, excellent vibe and overall a great place to spend a few days.

The breakfast was supposed to be included but they charged us at the end. The bathroom opens up to the bed with a big doble window, so there is little privacy.

Can be good value for money if you book in advance, great location, staff just seem unhappy

I liked the location, the cleanliness and the gym is fantastic. The food options are also good.

Although there are some very nice staff the overall feeling is that the staff are not happy to be there and are going through the motions. This would not stop me from going back as I like the location and if you book on time it can be a good price.

Great hotel but not keeping to its high standards l

The breakfast was superb as always

Sophies was not open on our first night after 10pm. The bar downstairs does not compare. When we did have late drinks on Sophies on Saturday it appeared the bar was short staffed. We do not like only paper cups for tea and coffee in the room. When we arrived there was only one hanger. No safe in a super room? Staff appeared ill informed and one lift was out of action for all of our 3 night stay. As usual, some noise issues but we knew of those. Doesn’t help when the DJ cranks it up for the end of the night at 4am and wakes us up. This is our go to hotel in Dub but standards seem to be slipping. We intend to shop around for a better stay next time.

Would definitely stay at The Dean again, it was lovely!

Our room was upgraded to the Super Room. Clean, classy, comfy bed, double windows to make it soundproof. Used the Sauna & pool & the changing facilities there were excellent. Lovely rooftop bar & restaurant (we only had drinks).

The record player & speaker didn’t work in our room. Not really an issue but would have been nice if it worked.

We enjoyed it’s city center location and ambiance. The bed was very comfortable. The staff -excellent!

Exceptional Staff! Dave and those at the front desk were ready to take care of every need.

Our windows faced 2 Nightclubs with 1 being right next door. The rooms on the other side heard and felt nothing. Request those!

Lovely hotel, nice furnishings, cool bar upstairs with great views of the city

We had booked a mod pod but were upgraded to the James Suite and it was gorgeous, a real perk. Lovely hotel

There was some noise from the music - I think next door? - it was a Sunday night. The hotel had provided ear plugs and did advise us to contact them if it was too noisy. Husband slept through it all though.

Pleasant

The decor and over all feel of the hotel was great. We were there to see a rugby match and the staff gave us great recommendations for a pre match dinner and drinks at a proper rugby pub on the way to the match. The roof top bar is lovely and managed o have a drink up there before they closed for the night.

The biggest downside was the noise at night time. The staff did warn us when we checked in but I still wasn't prepared for the level of noise. There are multiple nightclubs on the street by the hotel and music was thumping as we were going to bed. Our room was at the front of the hotel and on the 1st floor, I'm not sure if it would have been different had we had another room. During the day it is a different story it's very quiet and not many people around.

We would like to go back even for the lovely staffs

Staff, the staffs were so helpful!! We were there for wedding, all of us were at residence bar and stayed till late on Saturday night, there was one staff on duty, he was looking after us so well! And needs to let people in and out, check in for people. He was absolutely star! If they could have second staff to help him it would be better.

We stayed in the main hotel , the venue was in the next door, so if we going in between your room and venue we need to exit hotel then going to next door. it would be great if it’s connected.

A good city centre hotel close to amenities and public transport

My room in the Dean Townhouse was spacious and a lot quieter than the main hotel, being based at a building to the rear of the hotel away from the nightlife noise on Harcourt street. The kingsize bed was very comfortable with high quality bedding making for a good nights sleep!

The sliding door in our room was tough to open. Some of our group stayed in the main hotel and some of the rooms are quite tired and in need of updating.

Very good

Hotel is stylish and check in staff was friendly. Loved that the room had a record player and ceiling fan!

Certain parts of the room/bathroom are showing a lot of wear and tear. Bathroom sink was stained and chipped. We asked if we could have an extra pillow and after talking to two separate people were told they had no extra pillows in the entire hotel. I’ve never been told that before.

Very good

The property is beautiful and the rooftop bar Sophie's was amazing. But the noise from the night clubs kept us up until 2:30 in the morning, even on a Tuesday night. The hotel offered us earplugs but I definitely think some noise cancellation solutions should be applied

Fabulous quirky hotel, great location and friendly staff

Location was great, centre easily accessible by foot but there is also a tram stop a minute’s walk from the hotel. Lovely attention to detail in the room. Lovely rooftop restaurant, Sophie’s. Pizza was delicious

Nice

Great location, unique rooms. Staff are generally really friendly

Some of the snack items in the room were out of date. We had to get someone to look at the TV as it was broken and the person on reception insisted on having someone take a look at 7am the next morning! We called back and asked for a more reasonable time, which was thankfully accommodated. I have stayed here before approx 3 years ago and I just remember it being better overall the previous time.

Everything we needed for a short break in Dublin.

Great location for Dublin City Centre

It didn’t bother us as we were out to enjoy the nightlife but the hotel is right next to a nightclub so if you aren’t going to be partaking then mentioning this on booking would be advisable so the room can be assigned accordingly.

Lovely hotel in a near-centre location

The hotel is excellently located, just a 10-minute walk to the city centre and only 2 minutes to the airport shuttle bus. As we were familiar with the area, the staff kindly accommodated our request to stay in the quieter Townhouse building. We also loved the hotel's stylish décor, which made our stay even more enjoyable.

No toilet brush in the bathroom.

Lovely quirky hotel Shane about

The hotel is in a great location close to Grafton Street and Trinity College. The rooms are beautifully furnished and have some lovely unique touches like a record player and some vinyl in the room. The rooftop restaurant has great food and a lovely view over the city - we enjoyed an evening meal there as well as breakfast and brunch. …. BUT if you’re looking for a good night’s sleep then this is not the hotel for you. We were warned at check in that the hotel is in the nightclub area and there may be some noise and earplugs are provided by the bed but we didn’t expect to feel that we were in the nightclub until around 4am! We were in an even numbered room looking out over a nightclub (I’m not sure if the odd numbered rooms on the other side of the corridor have the same issue). You can actually look down into the club and hear the music and the DJ clearly.

A really decent vibe from the staff, 10/10, in this cool boutique hotel.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Thanks especially to Katie in reception for helping stash our electric bikes, ordering us pizza, lending us her phone charger.. honestly it's the little things that mean so much, and Katie is an absolute gem 👌 ...as they all are in fairness - Maria in reception too, and the girl at the pool (which is FABULOUS). Staff so attentive, nothing ott, but chilled, decent, genuine and helpful people.

Nothing. Everything was perfect. The bed was so comfortable too. A perfect boutique hotel, really cool place 👌
