The Watergate Hotel, Washington D.C.

The spa is incredible.

I’ve been staying at the Watergate for the last four years. My most recent trip was for my daughter’s graduation from George Washington University. I also had two other couples stay at the hotel for the Graduation. I was given a room above the valet and car park. My guests were given better rooms. I had no screen door on my balcony, which I wanted to leave open for fresh air. We heard cars & valets every night. I should have been given another room or upgraded to make me happy, it was the worst room imaginable.

Nightly rates are overpriced and I hated the valet only parking. Also, booking.com did not mention the $300 worth of incidentals that gets charged to your card at check in. Also, my tv didn't work initially but someone came up and fixed it as soon as I reported it.

The amenities are good, and the hotel is well designed and well staffed

The staff are not well trained, and make mistakes continuously. The cleanliness is very bad (I saw mice in the lobby). It is overall overpriced and charges extra for many things,which other hotels don't

Staff and facilities are absolutely amazing, and the location is convenient. If you get caugh here without an umbrella, you'll walk the streets in style.

As a result of booking through booking.com, my inclusive breakfast barely subsidized breakfast. I also found the bar staff to be underaccommodating. So one is on booking.com and the other the Watergate.

Pool, spa, location, wonderful staff.

Unfortunately a chain smoker stayed in the room next to ours (room 312), smoking on her balcony from morning through evening. We loved our room & looked forward to spending more time enjoying the view from our balcony, alas, that wasn’t the case. Usually our room didn’t smell like smoke because we kept our door closed but the last night of our stay I could smell it sitting on the sofa, so I guess it came through the vent. I didn’t complain presuming the hotel allows smoking in outdoor areas &, frankly, because the smoker’s addiction probably already causes her enough pain & discomfort.

It was a nice room and facilities.

I booked this through my work's booking platform, it may be different for direct bookings. Once I got to the hotel they asked for a $600 deposit at the reception, which I was completely unaware would happen and I hadn't budgeted for. In the end they lowered the deposit to $300, but they never told me that there was a mandatory daily $40 resort fee to be charged. That was not communicated to me at the hotel reception, neither via email or other method. The rest of my deposit was back in my bank account 15 days after check out, even though -and only when I asked- they said it takes up to 5 working days. I think it's unacceptable that all of this was so unclear, and the deposit took so long to return to me.

The staff was excellent! They were very helpful with our bikes and shuttles.

Rooms were excellent. View of Potomac...well stocked bar/refrigerator...large spacious bathrooms with great showers and double sinks...efficiency of automated elevator system led to short waits...room lighting is excellent...Fitness Center: good quality machines and a good number of them....sauna....valet service ($58) expensive but invaluable and well run.

Our second room was not ready until 5:30, 90 minutes later than we were supposed to be able to check in, for which we received no apology or recompense. Bed pillows were a disaster as they provided no support whatsoever, dramatically undermining our sleep. And room key did not work at Fitness Center wasting 15 minutes of my time.

Very minor thing but insufficient coffee pods and milk in the room and one big cup, one small cup in the room which was puzzling as to why there weren’t two of each? Also coffee flasks in the lobby were empty each time we went to use them.

Great location between Georgetown and the Mall. We explored both. Grand building with echoes of recent history all around. Fantastic breakfast available, and room service very good.

All good really, apart from the fact you could hear noise from other rooms quite clearly at times.

The view and location. The parking, valet and front desk staff were friendly and professional. Breakfast was excellent but extremely pricey.

Phone in room was not hooked up, I wasn't certain how to contact the front desk. There was a mouse running around the bar.

Lovely historic hotel with a very good breakfast (albeit pricey). Well preserved exterior and reasonably modern interior. The view of the river is pleasant. Small details like the cup mats had information about the hotel and it's history which was a nice touch.

The lifts are in need of servicing and at times can be very loud, even in the rooms. The rooftop bar is closed over the winter period which we hadn't realised until we got up there. The price of the minibar/confectionary in the room was extortionate, made worse in that there are very limited options around for any such things.

The breakfast was a complete disappointment. They need to provide a higher quality and variety. Had it not beed for an amazing staff member, it would have been really disastrous for me.

The bread was hard and there were not that many choices. Just sub par. They need to elevate it for the place and price they charge.

The View from my room was amazing. The staff were always full of smiles and willing to help.

Heat in room did not work, phone gave issues. Bar prices were high two drinks cost me 90$. Howver I was given credit for these issues

Front desk gave us a better room at no extra charge. Of course I wouldn’t know the difference but it did look a lot bigger place than what I thought I ordered online. Room was pretty great and gave us some vibes. Wings were fantastic in house.

The front desk gave us a paper and told us breakfast was until 10:30. We came down a little after 10 and breakfast was not there and apparently the 30 minutes was for ala Carte service. Not explained clearly. The mini bar items etc are way too pricey. I mean seriously?

This is a comfortable and well managed hotel located with walking distance of Georgetown and the Mall. The view from the room onto the river was wonderful and we enjoyed quick access to the running tracks along the water.

The immediate surroundings are a bit desolate: it is a ten-minute walk to a good coffee shop and longer to a good place for lunch. Also valet parking only at $58/day is a bit steep.

The location is excellent for The Capitol, Rosslyn and Georgetown. Staff were very professional and friendly with the exception the roof top bar where they were neither. Views over the river are exceptional and room nicely appointed.

Room needs serious renovations. I upgraded my parents to a river view room suite and they had constant water noise from the toilet, sink not working, bathtub leaking, and what is worse, a dog barking all night.

I didn't like the huge roach that took over our dinner while my wife and I were on the roof top bar having drinks and finger foods. The waitress killed the bug and still charged us full price for the items. Complained to the front desk and still have not received a refund, discount or any accountability for the incident.

Location + size of room

The woodwork in the room is beautiful and remarkably still in good shape but the carpet in the room is old and while it may not be dirty, appears dirty. The walls are PAPER thin. We felt like our neighbors were in our room the entire time.

Iconic. Lovely staff. Fun decor. Great workout room. Excellent breakfast.

Only one thing. Next Whiskey Bar was not a great hotel bar and the cocktails were not worth the 25 bucks. Yes, nice hotels can charge that much but the drinks have to be perfect. And they were merely OK. We were going to go to the rooftop bar, but they closed it for bad weather. I guess in that location the view sort of justifies the prices, but let’s just bring the bar service up to the level of a first class hotel. Otherwise it was a great stay!!!!!
