Gladstone Hotel, Toronto

Quite a find. Fantastic hotel, great room and breakfast. Good location with tram/street car right outside the hotel.

Perhaps room which had little storage.

Great location. So many places within walking distance.

Good location, clean and comfortable room, feels safe for a solo female traveller.

Shower prone to flooding due to design. Storage in room is awkward/limited - coat hangers ineffective, and little space to store bags. Elevator needs to be operated by staff so often more convenient to take stairs (if able).

Front Desk Staff were friendly, helpful, & efficient Elevator Operators were very friendly & always there fir you Housekeeping Staff were soo incredibly efficient & friendly, so many beautiful smiles!! Thank you for a memorable stay!

Parking was a little challenging

Great location and beautiful little boutique hotel with lots of character and charm. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the place was spotless and brunch was delicious in the cafe downstairs.

The noises of other guests in the hallways was definitely noticeable and woke us in the morning a couple of times. Nothing outrageous, just normal chatter.

The hotel bar/cafe was booked for private functions all 3 nights of our stay. Would have liked the option to use it.

We loved the lift, it was historical, the staff was super friendly, they have a pool table, really fun to play in the evenings. The neighbourhood is idyllic, hyspter vibe with small restaurants around the corner, easy to arrive because has a few tramps walking distance.

I loved the location, the staff, and the whole aesthetic. Having an original artist mural in my room was really cool.

It was pretty minor, but the elevator situation means you need to use the stairs most of the time.

The room is small, the sink is in the room, the water on the shower was barely dripping and ventilation system was extremely loud. I chose the accommodation because I had a layover in Toronto for 15 hours but if I had to stay longer, I would have probably cancelled it after my first night because of the ventilation system which is extremely loud.

I liked the artwork and the shared areas on each floor; the reading materials and the unique touches made my stay special. The restaurant was reasonably priced and quiet when I was there. The staff were exceptional.

I don't know why the shower drains the way it does, but the entire bathroom floor filled with water from my shower and the drain didn't collect the water well in the way it was set up. I had to use the bathmat to mop it up and it was wet for half the day. My room did not have a small desk (or place to sit with a laptop. I expect next time I will use the common areas more.

In addition to a convenient location, the originality of the interior design of the individual rooms as well as of the common spaces, with all the comfort of a modern Hotel but with the feeling of being in an artistic gallery in a historical building, including it’s now almost unique elevator. The attention of the staff made us also feeling very welcome.

Atmosphere and staff were personable. The art and plants were especially wonderful!

We would have liked longer opening hours for the wonderful restaurant! Breakfast was served a bit late (from 8am) and we didn’t make it back in time in the evenings for a snack or drink (10pm).

The room was wonderful; the whole hotel is so beautiful; the fitness area is really cute; the location was excellent; the staff were lovely.

Super comfie King bed. The pillows & bedding were luxe and lovely. The room was clean, quiet. Location is great. Check in staff friendly, courteous.

For the price, the King Studio room felt a little cramped and spartan. Could do with a few ‘extras’ - conveniences such as robes, a fridge, better coffee in the room, small desk or chair …

We loved it so much we booked a second night. Fantastic location, the 'feel' of the hotel was welcoming, comfortable and homey, and the design was outstanding - love the artwork and LOVE the old elevator! Bed was super comfy, and wifi was strong enough to support the few work meetings I had.

A house , not an hotel

Room size

While the room was small, the space was designed well and I was comfortable. The design is inspiring. Loved the unique art on each floor and the antique operational elevator.

There was a slight sewer smell from the sink.

Location was very pretty, and room was interesting. Seemed well kept, clean and in good maintenance.

Shower was poorly designed and ran water all over the bathroom floor. Easy to slip and fall on the polished tiles.

What a stunning boutique hotel! Each space was so special and we loved learning about the history of the hotel, as beautifully documented in the photo gallery. The elevator...the bar...the special touches to make our stay fab, were all recognized and appreciated.

It’s a really hip and cute boutique hotel in a great location, about a 45 min walk away to the downtown core and on the tram line. The neighbourhood is really cool with lots to eat and drink in the area. The hotel is really charming, with every floor a different theme.

You could hear people walking by in the hallway, and there were a lot of pigeons hanging around our window. Otherwise, it was great!

Wasn’t very busy so it all felt a bit quiet and the room with billiard table etc was closed for renovation

The staff was super nice. The pool table was a lot of fun. The drinks were good. The showers were very nice. The location is VERY convenient. The look of the hotel is unique and nice; especially the old fashioned elevator.

To the person who took the cue ball from the pool table: GIVE IT BACK! We played pool and re-set the table for the next player to play and the staff reported it missing. Whoever took the cue ball: YOU ARE A JERK! Don't ruin a good game for everyone else staying at this awesome hotel.

Cool building and decor. Location was good for our needs. Room was small but comfy and cozy.

Asked for early Checkin where they tried to charge another $30 to guarantee it. I refused but they still were able to accommodate the request. Didn’t end up having the room cleaned during our stay as apparently cleaning doesn’t occur until after 3p? And we needed to rest between wedding events at that time. It’d also be nice if maybe a bottle of water or two was provided upon arrival. No closet space but they are inventive around creating a corner to hang things. They also hosted a party/wedding event that took up the main lobby and made it fairly annoying to get between the stairs and the front door

We stayed in a Loft room for one night which was spacious, clean and relaxing. The bed (as others have mentioned) was so comfortable. A stylish hotel in a great area.

Unique property with great communal spaces. Loved the artwork and designs of the spaces. Friendly staff. Great location.

It was perfectly fine for me. But should note to others it is a busy urban area therefore lots of traffic noise at night.

Location is perfect , staff is feiendly. Very clean and cosy. Old-style elevator is one of Toronto's landmarks.

Rooms are small, there is no fridge, no table. There is common designated work area but not everyone is respectful. If you plan to work there it could be noisy.

The staff was friendly and the building is awesome with some very cool features, including an old style elevator. The room was decorated very nicely and has underground secure parking a 3 minute walk across the street. There is a little grocery store around back and its within walking distance to many little bars and restaurants. There was a few vagrants walking around outside, but no one that was bothersome. The room was actually very quite at night for the area.

One thing I should note, when we went to check in, the room was not ready for 1.5 hours past the check in time. Reception offered to pay for 2 drinks at the bar while we waited, however they never followed through with the offer. Not a big deal, it just should be mentioned. Unloading your baggage is a little difficult and has to be done in the back alley because the hotel main entrance is on a busy street. It was only a minor inconvenience in which the actual coolness of the hotel makes up for it.

Cool area and great atmosphere

Location, common rooms are great but I return year after year mostly because of the wonderful, engaging and very competent, friendly professionalism of each and everyone of the staff.

I loved the original Gladstone version 1.0 imaginative, arty and fun. New version Gladstone 2.0 feels cold in comparison. And AC needs tweaking ..too noisy when the fan kicks in. But as I said I return because of the delightful staff. Especially as I am a solo traveller their attitude and care is appreciated.

I wish more heritage buildings could be this well maintained and curated. We loved the art exhibition of the buildings history since the late 1800s and other beautifully decorated common spaces. The rooms themselves were modern and comfortable and we had no issues with street noise. We had breakfast sandwiches and lattes from the cafe on the main floor and they were excellent. I feel that the price for location along with the boutique feel was very reasonable. Parking was easy to access, very close and reasonably priced for downtown Toronto. We look forward to coming back in the future and will definitely be recommending Gladstone House and the neighbourhood to our friends and family. Loved it!

I always appreciate a mini fridge in the room and always miss them when they aren’t included. I could also see that a winter time visit might be less comfortable as there wasn’t a good place for coats and boots in the rooms as they are quite small.

Food In bar for both breakfast and dinner was excellent! Loved the art in the hotel
