Park Hyatt, Tokyo

3-7-1-2, Nishishinjuku, Tokyo 163-1055, Japan (show on map)

Park Hyatt Tokyo is an iconic luxury destination occupying the top floors of the Shinjuku Park Tower, a masterpiece designed by Pritzker Prize-winner Kenzo Tange. Since opening in 1994, it has become a symbol of cinematic prestige, famously serving as the primary backdrop for Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation. Following an extensive restoration, the hotel recently reopened in 2026, balancing its legendary history with refreshed, contemporary interiors.

The hotel’s design is a blend of soaring architectural lines and intimate, residential warmth. Original designer John Morford created a private-residence feel using dark woods, natural stone, and signature greens. During the recent renovation by Studio Jouin Manku, these elements were softened and refined, introducing bespoke furniture, warm lighting, and Japanese-inspired wet-room bathrooms. A standout feature remains the 41st-floor library, housing over 2,000 curated books, and the stunning 20-meter indoor pool set beneath a dramatic glass atrium.

Dining here is an experience in itself. The legendary New York Grill & Bar, perched on the 52nd floor, continues to offer world-class jazz and 360-degree views of the Tokyo skyline and Mount Fuji. Guests can also enjoy the new Girandole by Alain Ducasse, which brings a sophisticated Parisian brasserie spirit to the hotel.

Located in the heart of Shinjuku, the hotel is perfectly positioned for discovery. You are just a short distance from the serene Meiji Shrine, the vibrant greenery of Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, and the eclectic nightlife of the Golden Gai district. Whether you’re seeking quiet reflection or the energy of Tokyo’s streets, this hotel remains an unparalleled sanctuary.

Expert reviews

Fodors review:

“One of the most magnificent properties in Tokyo, the Park Hyatt hovers over Shinjuku boasting some of the best views, finest restaurants, incredible bars, and stellar service. Refined and remarkable, this high-priced property just might be worth every penny.”

Featured as Fodor’s Choice in Tokyo.

CNN review:

“The hotel occupies a pricey piece of sky, beginning on the 41st floor of a high-rise in the city’s Shinjuku neighborhood. Rooms are well decorated and comfortable with eye-catching views of Tokyo.”

Frommers review:

“When the Park Hyatt opened in 1994 as Tokyo’s first skyscraper hotel, I knew it was bound for glory the moment I stepped out of the elevator onto the light-drenched 41st floor. No hotel yet offered views as surreal as this; and with its gorgeous layout, high-tech rooms, and polished service (check-in is at one of three sit-down desks), it seemed light-years ahead of the competition.”

Featured as Frommer’s Exceptional Choice in Tokyo.

Forbes review:

“Park Hyatt Tokyo, made famous in Sophia Coppola’s hit indie flick Lost in Translation, has been a luxurious mainstay for international travelers for more than 20 years. Located in the heart of the Shinjuku district, the hotel towers above a busy city like an elevated oasis of total refinement.”

Telegraph review:

“Among Tokyo’s top (and best-loved) hotels, the Park Hyatt is a five-star legend, renowned for its starring role in Lost in Translation alongside Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. It offers flawless service, elegant design, views of Mount Fuji and one of the world’s most atmospheric cocktail bars.”

An expensive choice for a very old looking room

The views of Tokyo from the hotel are truly spectacular, the French restaurant in the hotel is very nice and staff was completely on point. The room was extremely spacious, and they have 24 hours room service

The rooms definitely need an upgrade, the look of them is very 90’s and the furniture feels old and looks old. Unfortunately the famous bar in the rooftop was closed under renovation

Beautiful quiet hotel, perfect for privacy and service.

The staff really looked after the kids amenities, breakfast was great.

The beds are pretty hard, and rate as a futon rather than a comfortable bed.

Good hotel but needs refurbishment

Overall a good hotel with spectacular views and impressive interiors. The concierges were very helpful ahead of our stay and helped us with everything from restaurant reservations to babysitting service. Loved the toiletteries from Aesop and the package for our toddler.

The furnitures in the rooms are old and worn down. Almost unbeliavable to pay 1000€ per night for this. Breakfast is quite poor and we were surprised to be charged 75€ for 2 adults and a child on top of our already expensive room. Value for money was just not there for us.

Great hotel, great house staff however off set by poor senior staff guest service experience

The Park Hyatt is destination luxury hotel in Tokyo and is priced accordingly. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. The dining options are elegant and refined with a breakfast that is not to be missed. Front door, restaurant, bar, cafe, housekeeping and room services staff are efficient and friendly and the service provided by them was exceptional.

The senior staff at the hotel in reception and concierge seemed distracted most of the time and most questions for service or booking help that we asked were not actioned or not met. Most responses from senior staff offered only excuses not any alternatives.

Came inspired by the movie and wasn't disappointed :)

I loved the somewhat vintage twist on luxury (perhaps because it's in fact old :)), but I much prefer that to sleek uninteresting luxury. And the view of course was stunning. Great overall ambiance!

Smooth room service. With two breakfast and one meal order something was twice missing or misunderstood (no milk with coffee, false make of eggs). So better checking on the room service orders would be in place. Also rather difficult to find the entrance!

More than perfect

What can I say? The room is really good, high quality coffee and tea. Staff is so nice and helpful (specially helping with reservations and transportation around the city). You must try the NY Bar and the Japanese restaurant. Oh, and the views are splendid!

I would not stay here again based on the room.

Staff and breakfast were excellent.

The room was a bit shabby and disappointing. Certainly not worth the $800 per night. The decor and furniture were old and dated, furniture, doorways etc scuffed and dinged. Carpet and drapes seemed old.

The legendary Park Hyatt Tokyo

From the moment we stepped through the doors, the classy staff at Park Hyatt Tokyo made us feel welcome and assisted us all the way to our room, showcasing exceptional hospitality. The hotel's stylish artistic decor, even inside the elevators, caught our eyes and added to the luxurious ambiance. The lobby area was a sight to behold with beautiful trees adorning the top of the skyscraper, creating a serene escape amidst the city buzz. Nestled in the heart of Shinjuku, the location couldn’t have been better, allowing us easy access to explore around. The room was spacious and offered awe-inspiring views of Mount Fuji which was a sight we cherished. The iconic pool at the top of the building came with a stunning panorama of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and Shinjuku station, providing a unique and refreshing experience. The famous New York Bar lived up to its reputation and gave us our 'Lost in Translation' moment, with a classy setting and a buzzing atmosphere. Starting our day with an elegant breakfast at Girandole was the cherry on top. Our stay was filled with luxury, comfort, and unique experiences, making Park Hyatt Tokyo a destination we'd love to revisit.

The definition of the luxury

What a wonderful stay! The view is a delight, the service is absolutely perfect, all is made to ensure your stay is magical, from the reception when you arrive to the still warm chocolate madeleines served for breakfast. The New York grill and its view of Tokyo, the swimming pool on the top floor at night... All is amazing. Wether Lost in translation is your cult film or not, come and stay here. It's such a wonderful place.

Nothing. It would be crazy to find something to say.
