Guesthouse Hanare, Tokyo

I love the core concept of this 'scattered hotel' that encourages guests to engage with the community. From the welcome walking tour of the neighborhood, to a detailed map and restaurant recommendations, to the tickets to the neighborhood bathhouse, I really felt anchored in a sense of place. Breakfast is in a separate building down the road. For a solo traveler, my tatami mat room and adjacent but private toilet (shared shower) were perfect. Neighborhood is lots of fun to explore, and the 'concierge' was so helpful, and warm, and responsive. Wonderful experience.

Great to stay minimal! Good staff and their hospitality helps to make your satisfaction maximal!

In my age, it was a little hard to sit on the floor/tatami to work with my PC. Maybe worth considering “Zaisu”, a seat on the floor. When with heavy luggage better to stay in the ground floor.

The staff, locations and breakfast were all wonderful. A great choice to explore a calmer part of Tokyo while still convenient to transit.

Shower facilities were lackluster, but the nearby public baths more than made up for it. Being an older building sound traveled readily between rooms, made it challenging if you wanted to make a phone call from the room.

It would have been nice to be able to have lunch or dinner in the cafe but it wasn’t open in the evenings the nights we were there but lots of places to eat around the area so it didn’t matter

Staying at hanare was delightful. The staff was warm and made sure we felt welcome. We love the traditional design and Japanese style room. Everything was very clean and organized. The town was quiet and not packed with tourists. We had a wonderful time and felt like we got a taste of their local life.

Great location in Tokyo, lovely idea of the sento, Japanese but very nice breakfast, loved the Hanare map. I would love to come back.

Maybe a slightly thicker mattress for "old bones".

Loved the Yanaka location, 10 min walk for train station, japanese style room. Super friendly staff.

You can hear everything in the building, like the building is made of.

I loved the area and the design vibe of the lodgings.. The staff were amazing and we had many lovely conversations with them and some wonderful suggestions. They couldn’t have tried any harder to make our stay pleasant!

In case someone is interested into real local experience, Hanare is cosx place to stay. The house was originally built in 1960 and renovated recently

It s quite far from the city centre. Not on a main metro line.

The staff were very friendly. I accidentally overbooked, and they went out of their way to refund me.

The office was a little difficult to find at first (2nd floor of a building). But past that, the location was delightful.

Staying at Hanare was such a treat. The experience makes you feel like you are living in Tokyo. The location is convenient to two train stations and very easy to get around. Everything was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The staff was also helpful and accommodating. And breakfast at the cafe was lovely.

Because Hanare is located in a quiet neighborhood, it was a challenge finding a restaurant for dinner. We were often out and about in other busier parts of the city, but when we weren’t, there aren’t many dinner options.

We absolutely loved our stay at Hanare. The design is beautiful, the staff are incredibly kind. it was in a very quaint area with its own character. the location is super close to a train station so easy to get anywhere on Tokyo. I highly recommend staying here!

We got exactly what was listed in the booking page. The staff was the most welcoming we’ve ever encountered. Things were easy to navigate. The breakfast that came with the stay was delicious.

My only concern is that the staircase up to the second level of rooms was a little steep.

This is by far the best hotel experience I have ever had! The rooms are lovely and comfortable in their simplicity, and the facilities and staff are outstanding. Really enjoyed the provided breakfast as well - and when I had an early flight on my last day, the staff provided me with a breakfast to-go bag, coffee, and a sweet handwritten note. Thank you so much! ❤️

The young woman who checked us in was very professional & attentive especially as we had difficulty finding the hotel. Also liked the aesthetic & philosophy behind the business.

The room size was the smallest we experienced in travelling 4 wks in Japan. The description on Booking .com is not accurate, it was literally an area large enough to lay down 2single futons & a very narrow corridor. We are experienced travellers & enjoy trying all different types, levels & sizes of accommodation but we were not prepared with room size coupled with the fit there is no area in which to sit or relax. If we knew the reality we would not have booked..

E v e r y t h i n g !!! :3 room incredibly clean, minimalist and feels traditional. Separate lodging detached from the main building. price includes delicious Japanese breakfast and a complimentary drink. Staff is absolutely incredible everybody goes above and beyond :) The are us peaceful and beautiful especially the many temples and the first street you walk out into from Nippori station.. if you come here when Sakura bloom you will understand :) My only regret is not being able wish to stay longer.
