Hotel Montefiore is a true pioneer, famously known as Tel Aviv’s first boutique hotel. Housed in a beautifully preserved 1924 building on Montefiore Street, the property was originally designed by architect Moshe Lovrinzki. It stands as a stunning example of the city’s early “Eclectic” style—a mix of architectural influences that predates the famous Bauhaus movement that later defined much of the local skyline.
With only 12 guest rooms, the hotel offers an incredibly intimate experience. The interiors are a masterclass in colonial-inspired sophistication, featuring dark wood floors, pressed-tin ceilings, and plush leather furnishings. A signature, thoughtful detail is the floor-to-ceiling library found in every room, stocked with an eclectic mix of literature, travel books, and novels that invite guests to settle in and unwind.
The hotel is arguably just as famous for its lobby restaurant, which is a local hotspot for French-Vietnamese fusion cuisine. It is a place to see and be seen, where the clinking of glasses and jazz music create a lively, urban atmosphere that feels worlds away from the sunny, casual beach culture just a few blocks over.
Its location in the heart of the city is perfect for explorers. You are steps from the vibrant Rothschild Boulevard, where you can admire historic architecture or grab a coffee at one of the many cafes. Cultural landmarks like the Independence Hall Museum and the bustling Carmel Market are also within easy walking distance, making it an ideal base for soaking up the city’s energy.
Expert reviews
“A truly classy choice, the Montefiore occupies a heritage-listed 1920s villa in a tree-lined street off Allenby St. The 12 elegant rooms have high ceilings, wooden floors, an armchair, a generously endowed bookshelf, double-glazed windows and spacious bathrooms.”
“This stunning boutique hotel shows off what restoration can bring to the historic buildings of Tel Aviv. The two-story building stands out because of its lovely salmon-hued exterior. Its light-colored walls, hardwood floors, and wrought-iron banisters evoke times gone by.”

“The best-known boutique hotel in Tel Aviv is also, in our view, the best. There’s no lobby—the legendary eponymous Franco-Vietnamese restaurant that occupies the ground floor is the lobby—but upstairs there are 12 luxuriously appointed guest rooms that feature high ceilings, dark hardwood floors, tall windows, and oodles of ambience.”

The Montefiore has been our home for many years, however this time we were disappointed. home,
We love the Montifiore, it’s been our home from home for several years.
It feels like it needs a makeover, the carpets need a good clean, the guest toilets were filthy, a female bar tender was rude and unpleasant. It spoilt our trip.
