Palais de Chine Hotel, Taipei
The Palais de Chine Hotel in Taipei is a striking fusion of European aristocratic elegance and Eastern philosophy. Opened in 2010 and designed by renowned architect Ray Chen, the hotel is often described as the city’s first “cultural hotel.” Stepping into its dimly lit, moody interiors feels less like a traditional hotel and more like entering a curated museum, filled with antique collections and art pieces from around the world.
A recurring motif throughout the property is the horse, which represents the owner’s concept of “starting your journey here.” You’ll find horse-themed artwork and sculptures throughout the halls, reinforcing the idea that this space is a gateway for global travelers. The hotel’s commitment to sophisticated design is evident in details like its dramatic five-meter-high ceilings, lifelike bronze curtains, and sixteen sparkling crystal chandeliers in the Grand Hall.
Beyond the aesthetics, the hotel is a culinary standout, housing the three-Michelin-starred restaurant Le Palais, which serves exceptional Cantonese cuisine. Guests can also unwind in the Le Salon VIP lounge or find a moment of peace in the European-style reading area, which features a vast collection of antique books and artifacts.
Location is one of the hotel’s biggest advantages. Situated directly above the Taipei Main Station and integrated with the Q Square Mall, it offers unparalleled access to the city’s transportation network. You are within easy reach of cultural landmarks like the Museum of Contemporary Art and the historic 2/28 Peace Park, making it a perfect, refined base for exploring Taipei.
Expert reviews
“In a city where hi-design and minimalism are all the rage, Palais de Chine takes a boldly different approach, resulting in a mishmash of French furniture and Chinese antiques. Even if the over-the-top design isn’t your thing, top-notch service and a Michelin-starred restaurant will ensure a pleasant stay.”

Best place to stay that is closest to Taipei Main Station
This boutique hotel offers exceptional service with clean and quiet rooms, comfortable beds and bedding and the location really cant be beat. The Palais is located on the first floor of the Q Square as part of Taipei Main Transportation Station. So from here you can conveniently walk to various places that easily connect you to the MRT, HSR, or bus routes. You will have easy walking access to all the shops and restaurants and eateries in the huge station. Staying here allowed us to recover from jetlag and while being able to explore things on our own without the need for going 'out' 'out' into the hot and humid weather, we could stay within the building and maneuver thru the corridors underground that connect everything together. The breakfast buffet offers plenty of choices and was a relaxing place to reset. caffeine and begin the day. Will definitely stay here again.
The bathroom in the room, doesn't have a door that goes from floor to ceiling, so theres a gap top and bottom. Giving school bathroom stall vibes. So if you have shy bowel syndrome, and are staying with a companion, this might be a tiny ick. There are very nice restrooms in the lobby area by the restaurants, and on the gym level as well that are fully enlcosed.

Very central to Taipei Main Station, clean comfortable and a superb XL King bed.
The room was lovely and we particularly liked the XL King bed and being able to step out on the little balcony. When allocating us the room they took into account my special request of not being next to an elavator which was much appreciated. The room had enough space to comforatbly place our open luggage and belongings. There was a safe which is always handy. There were coffee and tea making facilities, but the little coffee bags provided were useless, a good thing we still had some coffee left over which we had bought at the supermarket. The hotel is in a great central location right next to Taipei Main Station. We did have a comfortable stay. Considering this is a five star hotel we had hoped there would be a simple bar where a nice glass of white wine and a beer could be enjoyed. Unfortunately not.

Wonderful hotel; if in Taipei, stay here.
One of the best hotels I have stayed in anywhere in the world, not least due to Cindy Huang’s astounding service.
Absolutely nothing.

Paid a premium for all the above advantages and I think it was worth it!
Service was top notch, every single staff we met was friendly and courteous, they let us leave our bags for 2 nights after checking out even though we weren’t returning to stay at the hotel, which was highly appreciated. The bathroom was very good, our family quad room had both a bath tub and a separate shower and separate toilet. Great water pressure and temperature control. Beds were comfortable and there was plenty of space for our family of 4 and our 3 suitcases. Location couldn’t be better, just cross the pedestrian bridge to get to the train station. There is a big shopping mall QSquare right next door too.
Nothing at all

Very comfortable and convenient
Great location. Very central to the main station which is the nerve centre of Taipei easy to get to from the MRT through a shopping Centre. Very comfortable bed and nice room. They are focused on everything a good Hotel should. Very comfortable bed good quality linen easy to work Aircon good shower and bath. There is a very nice salon on the 17th floor which is remarkably relaxing.
The breakfast were a little disappointing. Beautifully laid out and considered, but the hot western options were often cold or tepid at best. The best option is to order the omelette which has to be made from a fresh and probably had the most flavour. The hotel also is proud of its gloomy atmosphere but a little more light in parts would’ve been beneficial.

Must try, especially if you can try the hotel’s restaurant!
Nice theme hotel, detailed oriented for occult geeks, feel almost like a hidden premium cave, position next to the main station and stylish interiors, great to have a saloon and dinner available for free if you book an executive room!
Breakfast is good but not great, 2 days are enough, especially if you’re there during the sunny season!

Remains a lovely hotel - needs more staff over busy periods like CNY
Second stay here over the Chinese new year this time. Clearly much busier & staff more frazzled! Remains an excellent buffet for breakfast although staff need to replace items when they run out!
More staff on duty needed over known busy periods

Perfect for International Business Traveller with great traffic connection.
Amazing location: once it took me 8 minutes from the lobby to the platform of HSR Taipei Main Station.
Fantastic Breakfast options: one of the best if not THE BEST in Taipei City Area.
A Nice Bar after work.
Frontdesk has been very helpful and solved all the problems I had with flight cancellation of my guests.
Perfect solution for business travel in greater TPE area.
The room could have been lit-up a bit more or at least an option when more light is needed?

Great location. Luxurious at a good price.
The location is excellent right across the road from Taipei Main Station.
The low mood lighting sets the scene but can be difficult to see things sometimes. The bed is hard but that is Asia.

Phenomenal choice if you’re staying in Taipei!!!
The Palais de Chine is in a very convenient location in the heart of Taipei. The rooms and facilities are clean, comfortable, and beautifully styled—overall, an exceptional experience. I would also like to mention that the staff were professional and incredibly courteous. I’d like to specifically thank Andy for being so kind and thoughtful; he is a fantastic member of the concierge team. If you are visiting Taipei, I highly recommend staying here.

Short stay that will stay in my memories
Location! And the nice room with a view.
The corridors and the breakfast room were pretty dark. Dark wood, dark floor. It’s not unappealing but during breakfast it felt a bit depressing.
