Expert reviews

New York Times review:

“History buffs and those in search of views and solitude will appreciate Q Station’s smartly refurbished rooms and historic cottages located inside a nook of the Sydney Harbour National Park in Manly. The grounds are dotted with historic buildings where guests can pass the time as quarantined migrants once did, playing billiards, table tennis or savoring the views of Sydney Harbour over cups of tea.”

Shortlisted in New York Times’ 36 Hours in Sydney, Australia.

Very good

The history, location and the grounds were amazing.

The dark and stormy night! The guttering/downpipes on my accommodation need maintenance. The rain water from the storm spilled over the front guttering like a waterfall. The guttering and downpipes may be too small for drenching rain or may just need the leaves cleaned out. My very basic accommodation lacked in wow factor and flair. The rooms were a good size and very clean but the interior design and the furniture were dated. All the pillows on the bed were the same height - too high.

A great way to dip into Sydney‘s past

The location is unique, nestled in the bush on the slopes of North Head. A shuttle bus service is available to transport guests who do not wish to walk around the site. There are tours of the old quarantine facility and walking paths through the bush affording spectacular views of the Heads and harbour. Our evening meal was high quality.

There were no tours conveniently timed for our one night stay.

Setting was lovely.

Location is very special, such a unique and peaceful setting. Pretty old buildings, accomodation very nicely renovated.

Loud music from a wedding til late. Had to pay for random movies half watched children could pick, TV was set up in their room. Wi-fi not working, no info or assitance for this from the two numbers provided and rang. Reception is a shuttlebus trip away, I gave up. Shuttlebus times to Manly don't link with ferries. Cars were not allowed but a lot cars around, some of them looking like in need of a decent repair. Heard there was a sauna before, this would be very fitting with the style of the location! Would have loved that.

Beware of scams

Great spot, plenty to do and a great shuttle service into Manly.

After very nearly being scammed and having to block and cancel 2 credit cards due to Q stations booking.com back of house being hacked, with scammers sending messages through the app asking to validate payment details, firstly there was denial from Q station that it had anything to do with them. Once I showed a string of messages in the app which included messages from both Q station and the hackers in the same thread I was asked if I could send them a screen shot, which I did. Never was there any sort of apology or any sort of follow-up after sending the screen shot through. Add to this that we received a message the day before our stay that there would be an 8 hr power outage on one of the days, there was no offer of a price reduction, just an offer to reschedule our stay. I must say that whilst the stay in itself was amazing, management has left a lot to be desired.

A little slice of Australia you weren’t expecting.

So much to see and explore. Loved hearing about the history of the q station. The restaurant was so wonderful. Food was delicious and plenty of choices

The rooms weren’t serviced properly. We weren’t given extra shampoo or soap. And the coffee cups and glasses weren’t cleaned.

Excellent

Quirky and with a lot of character and history

At night deterred from going to restaurant or bar because of stairs. If you had a lift I think so many more would use your lovely restaurant and coffee place at the beach

We found staff and our facilities outstanding.

The location and history about the setting.

The lack of options for meals - dinner & breakfast when staying with young family.

Was okay, not sure Id stay again.

I liked the parking! The place was okay otherwise. I liked having 3 sinks (!) Shower was good, towels both fluffy and skinny (maybe get rid of your old towels?) Fridge and kettle good. The place was so quiet but I didnt sleep well as the bed was way too soft kinda like being in a banana, could not get comfortable (room 66), also when one person moves, the other feels it. The shuttles were prompt and the drop off in Manly was good (although a pretty essential that is necessary for them to run).

Well; 1/ Just 1 plug-in in the room (why no extension lead?) 2/ The Carpenters lounge we went to try work in - no useful plugins again and it was pretty grubby, tried the main lounge which has these old little tables which are hard to work on, you have to put 2 together and you get to listen to the staff in the kitchen (?) next door being noisy 3/The fan in bathroom didnt work so it was like a steam room after a shower 3/ There's no AC in the room - just a fan which was okay but when its hot it might not be too comfortable - there is a heater which was good when cold 3/The shuttles were good but a pain to have to bring all your gear back and forth 4/I could hear people in the next room.

Fabulous

Enjoy the wharf / breakfast & lunch there. Enjoyed the view, the history of the location, the quality of the renovated but older style of rooms. And the constant shuttle bus availability to get around.

Didn’t get a chance to use it much, but- the Tv only ever stayed on for around 5 mins at a time and turned off, and needed to reboot when turned back on.

Relaxing, picturesque getaway with a bit of history.

Great location for peaceful walks, taking in the view. Feels like you are far away, while still having easy access to Manly if desired. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Clean, comfy rooms.

We had a great time that was too short .. would have liked stayed longer.

The view was spectacular. We had terrific weather, blue skies, blue ocean and a gentle breeze. The room was clean and presented like a good motel room,

The website was tricky . Wanted to book for 2 nights but we unable to do so. I was under the impression that it was a min 2 night stay.

A very interesting and unique place to stay. Some extras in rooms would be welcome.

Comfortable room, good bathroom facilities. Great outlook. fascinating buildings and history. Lovely bush environment in parts of the property. wharf cafe and museum very good. Staff very helpful, pleasant. shuttle bus service prompt and plentiful.

Thought the king room and suite would have been a little better in presentation, No comfortable seat to watch TV in king room. Bath robes? Onsite restaurants closed Sunday and Monday evenings.

perfect rest after a tiring day.

room was great quiet ...check in easy and they let me extend the following morning a couple of hours as my plane to sydney was 6 hours late.

being late meant i missed dinner and unfortunately no food was available and i tried to book uber and gave up after discovering 3 places i tried were all closed. Just life.

Excellent for our wedding group.

Fabulous location for a wedding. Many family & friends were able to be accommodated at the same location. It has a beautiful natural feel to it, being in the bush with great views across the water.

We booked a twin room. The second bed was the sofa in the lounge room which meant the whole space was taken up. Would have preferred 2 single beds in the bedroom so that we could actually enjoy the lounge room.

Very good

The location was really good to explore Manly and the surrounding National Park. The wedding attended there was good for facilities and quite spectacular views.

A second bed had been requested and the Hotel claimed Booking.com had not advised of the request. It was annoying to ask again but the bed was made up in reasonable time.

Train the staff to better service their guests!

I love all the Q Station has to offer especially the history and the views.

The reception staff were not very helpful except for John and Milan. The staff I spoke to could not get me off the phone quickly enough.

Would love to come back and stay for leisure so we could enjoy the whole experience, tours etc

The location and room was lovely, beautiful scenery and the breakfast was amazing. We also enjoyed the shuttle service into Manly and the local wildlife.

The pillows were uncomfortable as they were too puffy, a flatter and firmer pillow would have been good. It would have been good to be able to open a window as it was quite stuffy at night even with the fan on.
