Hotel Magnolia, Santiago

Huérfanos 539, Santiago de Chile, Santiago, Región Metropolitana, Chile (show on map)

Hotel Magnolia is a stunning boutique property that breathes new life into a grand 1929 mansion. Originally commissioned by socialite Doña Ana Zegers García Huidobro, the building was designed by renowned architect Eduardo Costabal Zegers. In a poetic twist of fate, the contemporary renovation was led by architect Cazú Zegers, a distant relative of the original designer, who expertly blended the structure’s neo-Gothic roots with modern glass and steel.

The hotel acts as a beautiful bridge between Santiago’s past and future. Inside, you’ll find restored marble staircases and original stained-glass windows paired with sleek eucalyptus wood furnishings. One of the most unique features is the clever integration of the historic townhouse with a modern extension, creating a serene, light-filled atmosphere that feels worlds away from the city’s hustle despite its central location.

Guests can unwind on the seventh-floor rooftop terrace, which serves as a prime spot for craft cocktails and panoramic views of the Andes and downtown Santiago. For those seeking wellness, the hotel also offers unique experiences like a sound-healing space, providing a tranquil escape after a day of sightseeing.

Its location in the historic “El Centro” district is perfect for culture seekers. You are just steps from the picturesque Cerro Santa Lucía park and within easy walking distance of the Chilean National Museum of Fine Arts. Whether you want to explore the bohemian streets of nearby Lastarria or visit the iconic Plaza de Armas, the hotel places the city’s heart right at your doorstep.

Expert reviews

The Guardian review:

“This 42-room property opened in October 2016 to rave reviews. It ingeniously intertwines old and new as chequered tiles, marble staircases and reconstructed stained-glass windows appear alongside ultramodern light fixtures, geometric furnishings and vertigo-inducing glass floors.”

Lonely Planet review:

“No two rooms are exactly alike at this artfully designed boutique hotel, which masterfully intertwines old and new within the confines of a restored 1920s office building. Checkered tiles, marble staircases and stained-glass windows.”

Telegraph review:

“A grand historic house just steps from the old town. Santiago’s first urban design hotel combines sleek modern elements with its Neo-Gothic heritage. A black-and-white marble entrance and exposed brick walls are juxtaposed with an industrial-style suspended metal staircase, a bronze reception desk and potted magnolias.”

Excellent hotel with character and perfect location.

Very nicely designed hotel, smart, chic, but quite homely too. The staff were excellent, very friendly, polite and helpful. Breakfast was very good - a wide choice, nicely prepared and very tasty in a lovely courtyard room. Bedroom was roomy, very comfortable with all that you could wish for. The location is perfect - close to the centre of Santiago and a short walk from the Lastarria district, which has a good choice of bars, restaurants and artisan shops/stalls. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

The great hotel run buy people who care.

I stayed at Hotel Magnolia during a very stressful moment in my travels, and the staff went far beyond anything I expected. When I arrived after a medical issue and a scam at the airport, the reception team and manager immediately helped me, reassured me, and made sure I was safe. They even organised medical visits for me and assisted with translation between the doctor and me — something I could not have managed alone.
On the morning of my departure, although it was far too early for breakfast, the manager insisted I sit down, asked the staff to prepare coffee and something light to eat, and personally checked on my wellbeing. Every receptionist and bellboy I met was kind, attentive, and genuinely caring.
I have travelled a lot, and I have never experienced this level of humanity and support from a hotel. Hotel Magnolia is not just beautiful — it is run by people who truly care. I will always remember their help.

Luxurious stay in a perfect Santiago neighborhood for visiting the historic and artistic sites.

Fabulous breakfast, beautiful terrace, & helpful, friendly staff. Definitely in a higher price bracket but well worth the cost. The location allowed for walkability to many local sites.

overall, I would be more than happy to stay at Hotel Magnolia again. It is a great boutique hotel

Super staff, lovely ambience, great rooftop bar, everyone very friendly and helpful. The drinks in the library/reception room was a lovely touch.

breakfast on the first day was a bit haphazard - we came down towards the end of breakfast hours (but still within time) and food/crockery/cutlery was not easily available

A perfect start to our time in South America

A fantastic hotel in a perfect location for exploring the city. The top floor terrace is a lovely space for a late afternoon drink or late dinner. Breakfast was excellent, the deluxe room as spacious with a very comfortable bed. Highly recommended

Thank you, we had a wonderful stay and will highly recommended, our friends that are coming with way to also come and st

The exterior was old world charm and was very appealing! The front desk area continued in the same vain, but once you went up stairs it was modern with glass and clean lines. The Roof top bar was beautiful present with views to the Virgin Mary on the hill and on the first day a mountain top covered with snow!
Staff from the front door to the concierge were outstanding, with excellent suggestions for restaurants to sightseeing that were considered a must!

Fabulous stay in Santiago!

Where to start!? From the moment we walked into the elegant entrance…. They just do it right. Bar, restaurants, fantastic attentive staff that will make sure you have everything you could want or need. Nice exercise room, amazing front lounge area with gratis bubbles and one of the best carmenere’s we’ve ever had. The entire hotel is very chic and has fantastic design elements and decor. Loved the beds, lighting, great bathrooms with iced glass doors to the toilet. Plenty of storage, closets and lots of surfaces to put all of your things. They have taken notes! Breakfast was great and the breakfast space felt like a chic restaurant. One of my favorite places I’ve stayed in a while…. Well done!

You checked all the boxes. What a great hotel! My only critic is that the afternoon staff at the terrace could use some training in good hospitality. We had lunch there and the service was just ok. Food was great. Drinks were great. Ambiance and design were phenomenal. Staff was sub par and we kept having to go to the bar to ask for more drinks or food. Not terrible just not in line with the rest of their incredible hotel
Staff. It felt disconnected like maybe different management.

Nice artsy hotel in downtown area with great breakfast, excellent rooftop terrace bar and short walk to downtown attract

Nicely done interior furnishings. Very good breakfast. Welcoming lobby. Very nice rooftop terrace bar and restaurant with nice views, a nice breeze and good food/drinks.

While the location is in downtown and a short walk to museums and the park, there is the potential for crime and we were told by several people not to go out walking around the area at night.

Wish we could have tried the rooftop restaurant, but our short stay was during their weekly break.

Very beautiful hotel but not

Hotel looks amazing. Interiors are stunning and outside the facade is very attractive. Rooms really spacious and stylish . Super comfortable beds. Good breakfast. Staff at the counter able to speak good English.

Very noisy room even with ear plugs supplied. We asked for a quiet one. Ended up at level 2 on main road. Porter not professional with tips issues. Area not super safe after dusk and nothing interesting near by. Expensive overall for the experience but the hotel is beautiful

Not 5* hotel, maybe 4.

The hotel design is very nice, the breakfast very good, the location is close to the center.

The bathroom was very inconvenient from privacy point of view- it is only made of glass, 80% transparent the doors, 2-3 cm remain full open on the side; and the toilet door is located 1m from the edge of the bed.
Very, very, very uncomfortable.
The room much smaller than it was supposed to be. No accessories in the room - no napkins, no toiletries. Not a 5* hotel.

Good hotel in the city center (Service could be better)

The hotel, rooms and roof terrace are very stylishly designed.
From the roof terrace (open from midday until late evening), you have a beautiful view of the castle hill.
The food in the rooftop restaurant is creative and delicious.
The breakfast buffet is relatively varied and tasty.
The breakfast room is on the ground floor and does not have floor-to-ceiling windows, but it is still cosy.
The location is very central, yet the rooms are very quiet (very well insulated).

It was difficult to impossible to get personalised (non-automated) answers from staff to questions such as airport shuttle, massage appointments, and restaurant reservations. We only received a response to the latter (after repeating our requests via Booking.com, WhatsApp, email, and finally a phone call). The other questions were not answered, despite the promise on the phone to answer all questions by email...
The shower does not drain well and quickly floods the hallway.
The rooftop restaurant had hardly any fish in stock, even though we had made a reservation (including a note specifically about the fish selection) and even though the hotel's second restaurant was closed that day.
