Sophie’s Hostel, Prague

Melounova 2, Prague, 120 00, Czech Republic (show on map)

Sophie’s Hostel is a standout boutique property nestled in a beautifully renovated 19th-century building in Prague’s historic New Town. The interior design, masterminded by acclaimed Czech architect Olga Novotná, artfully blends a sophisticated Scandinavian aesthetic with cozy retro elements. The result is a warm, polished atmosphere that feels far more like a stylish hotel than a traditional hostel.

The hostel is celebrated for its attention to detail, featuring unique touches like custom artwork by designer Zora Mazáčová and elegant, designer bathrooms. It’s an award-winning space that caters to everyone from solo explorers to groups, offering everything from modern dorms to private apartments. Guests often rave about the lively ground-floor bar, which serves as a cozy community hub for travelers to mingle after a day of sightseeing.

Location-wise, you are perfectly placed for discovery. You’re just a short, pleasant walk from the bustling Wenceslas Square and the iconic National Museum. Excellent public transport connections—including several nearby metro stations—make it a breeze to reach further landmarks like the historic Charles Bridge, the sprawling Prague Castle, and the charming Old Town Square.

Beyond the major sights, the surrounding neighborhood is a local favorite, packed with authentic Czech taverns and trendy bistros. Whether you’re grabbing a hearty breakfast at the hostel’s own café-bar or exploring the diverse culinary scene right outside your doorstep, Sophie’s serves as a fantastic, comfortable base for experiencing the best of Prague’s rich history and culture.

Expert reviews

Telegraph review:

“This upbeat hostel enjoys a fairly convenient location in Vinohrady, a quasi-boutique aesthetic, and a unique mix of dorms, private rooms and apartments that are dotted with designer furnishings and generally devoid of drunken backpacker groups.”

Cool hostel, rooms can do with a refreshment

Clean and pleasant place. The hostel had a common area. Many young people. Nice vibe in general.

The room was kind of work out. Bedsheets were clean, but there was nothing besides the bed in terms of wardrobes. The steps to the second floor bed were partially broken, so it was a little dangerous climbing up.

Very convenient place to stay in Prague.

A good place in the center of Prague, with skilled and caring stuff, very comfortable bed, small but well equipped kitchen and very high ceilings. Seriously, the ceiling was about four meter high, so there's almost unlimited space at the top bunk bed. The location is close to perfect with lots of transport hubs and the historical part at a walking distance.

It is the center of a big city, so there's still transport noise until late night. Come prepared.

Clean, convenient location and friendly staff.

I stayed in a four-bed female dormitory, which was clean and quiet. The kitchen was fully equipped with cooking equipment. If you are staying with a group of friends and looking for an affordable, clean place that's accessible to the tram and the city center, Sophie's Hotel is a great option. The staff is also very friendly.

None.

Nice hostel in central Prague

Great location in new town of Prague. Helpful staff. The pods seems to be very new and clean, beds were comfortable. Good price with nice breakfast included. Nice bar to meet people.

Maybe I missed it but a coat hanger would have been really useful in the pod. Not much space in there for a tall guy. Pod walls are thin so you can hear everything going on at night, earplugs needed:

Good location for short cheap stay

Location is very nice - very close, walking distance to city center, National museum, Vinohrady district

Some of the parts of the rooms look a bit worn down, but other than that - very good choice for short stay for a good price

Satisfying - worth a stay

Very clean and good location from bus stop and metro station.

There is only one lift that is very slow in going up and down between the ground floor and 5th floor and it only accommodates max 3 persons.

Very nice and a clean hostel overall

Relatively quiet and central location. Helpful and kind staff. Breakfast was amazing with a wide variety including fresh fruit like bananas, apples and oranges. Interesting events, one of them was free pancakes on a Friday night. I enjoyed my stay along with the roommates I met as mutual understanding is crucial.

The ladder for the bunk bed could be improved, maybe softer steps or an extra step on the lower part. A small investment for even better pillows would be welcome in the future.

Private capsule unit

I stayed in the capsule unit and I liked the privacy. The bed was also comfortable. Temperature was nice. They also have a really nice shower head and endless hot water.

Only one bathroom per 10 people.

Clean, secure and friendly. Great base from which to explore Prague :)

The reception staff were always really friendly and helpful. The communal areas and cafe/bar leant themselves to a warm, social atmosphere. Great coffee! Bathrooms were clearly cleaned regularly and all amenities functioned well. The pods in which we stayed were a perfect balance between a dorm vibe with slightly more privacy/ security, although they did get quite hot in the night.

Overall, a great stay!

Stayed at Sophie’s Hostel and it was my first time sleeping in a POD honestly, no complaints at all. The bed was super comfortable with a good mattress, and the room/pod space felt surprisingly practical and well designed.

On cleanliness, everything was great: the shower room was always clean, which impressed me even more because there was only one shower room serving a lot of beds.

Bonus points: breakfast was amazing, and most of the reception staff were super friendly, which really made the stay feel welcoming.

Honestly, nothing major stood out. If I have to point to something, it’s that there was only one shower room for a lot of beds even though it was kept very clean throughout my stay. Also, a small note: the day after I arrived, the reception team felt less welcoming than the others—most staff were super friendly overall, but that particular day wasn’t as great.
