Originally commissioned by King Louis XV and completed in 1758 by architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel, this building was intended as an aristocratic palace. After serving as a private residence for the Counts of Crillon, it was transformed into a grand hotel in 1909 and has since hosted everyone from world leaders to celebrities like Madonna and Taylor Swift.
The hotel’s rich history is tangible throughout its halls. It was here that the first treaties between the United States and France were signed in 1778, and the building even provided a temporary home for Marie Antoinette before the French Revolution. Today, the hotel balances this heritage with modern sophistication following a massive four-year renovation that concluded in 2017.
A standout feature is the design work by several icons, most notably Karl Lagerfeld, who designed the extravagant “Les Grands Appartements” suites. The property also features a subterranean swimming pool lined with 17,600 gold-leaf tiles and a hidden wine cellar, La Cave, holding a massive collection of 40,000 bottles.
