Freehand Hotel, New York

Staff was great! The location is great with tons of restaurants and shopping nearby. Rooms are good size and a large shower.

The rooms are very dark, the bathrooms are dark too. The lighting could be better and would have loved a coffee maker in the room.

We LOVED the Three's Company room. We were picking our daughter up from college and she could stay with us once she had to leave the dorm. It made it easy so we could make it a longer trip and enjoy the city! Beds were comfy, space was perfect, decor was beautiful:) The bellman, Hero was fantastic! He was sweet, helpful & super funny! Total bonus!

Location and good vibe.

Felt crowded at times with high flow of guests / turnover and private parties. That all made the hotel noisy and elevators felt jammed.

Good location. Subway nearby. Clean sheets.

Hallway is a bit seedy. Some of the hotel is the same. But NYC is expensive- so if you don't wanna spend an absolute fortune, this is a decent deal.

Great location, super friendly staff, great facilities. Enjoyed our time here. Excellent value for the money. Great for groups. Coffee shop right downstairs and a great rooftop in the same building. Might come back.

Nitpicky things - could have more outlets, the AC was blasting directly at my feet on the top of the bunk bed. The room was small but that's normal for NYC.

I had expected to have lotion in the room and there was not any. They did have it availble on request, however.

Our room (742) was an interior-facing room which 1) lacked a view and 2) had a rather loud background noise from the airconditioning units all humming in the interior The bathroom had no extractor fan and very little ventilation. The bathroom was _very_ small; there was barely enough room to use the toilet comfortably

Staff was great, roof top bar was awesome, decent room, cozy feel throughout.

Listed as soundproof - that needs to be changed. Single-paned windows let you hear every beep of a horn, siren, and loud engine at full volume.

It had character and the room was spacious. There is a good breakfast spot attached to the hotel.

As with many NY hotels it was a bit tired and scruffy but this was reflected in the competitive price.

The location is great , close to family. the Room is alsways good just wish a little more light in bathroom by mirror. The bed was comfy for me but not my husband. The resturants and bars were great. Staff is always freindly and helpful.

Property was centrally located. I liked the decor. Also had a nice coffee shop with some food attached that was really good.

It is pretty small. I think that is expected for the area.

Staff aren’t consistent, some are more nicer than others. They gave us the wrong room at first because we asked for an early check in, it was smaller and by an elevator, extremely loud. Rooms are small in general. Hot water took forever to heat up.

The location was amazing. The gym had a wide variety of choices. Nice bar on the second floor next to a chill zone also suitable for working.

The water station in the lobby was very slow unlike the one in the gym.

Excellent location with friendly staff and gorgeous interior! The rooftop was also stunning.

The windows were dirty and no fan in the bathroom. I wish rooftop hours were available sooner in the day.

Overall a great value, given NYC hotel prices. Room was very small, which is fine as they have other places to hang out like the 2nd floor lounge, the downstairs cafe, and a really good gym. The gym included peletons, ellipticals, stretching mats, weights, etc. Better than I expected. The bed and pillows were decent.

rooms and hallways are a bit dim (need a lighting expert), there was a tear in the carpet, but these are all little things.

I loved the vibe of the hotel, its beautiful, everything was super clean and taken care of. The location was great, very well connected but not too noisy or crowded.

My only criticism is that the wifi didn’t work properly at the mezzanine, where I tried to do some work, so si had to stay in my room.

Location excellent; staff excellent; cafe excellent; room cleaning excellent; hotel comfortable, clean and well maintained. Hotel within easy walking distance to all major metro lines.

It’s a New York hotel so rooms are not much larger than bed.

The room was quiet and very clean, problems that arose were addressed immediately and with courtesy and kindness. The bathroom is tiny, but shampoo, etc. are provided. It’s a wonderful hotel for a few nights, affordable, safe, clean and well-located, with courteous and concerned employees and staff.

The bathroom is so tiny, and there should be cups or glasses in the rooms.

Room was quite dark (but we expected that). The attached restaurant, Patsy’s was good but very expensive (more than other restaurants in this chain)

Location and price

Location is really great. Staff are approachable and nice. Lobby a bit dark & charmless. Responsiveness before visit was poor. Room was nice, but quite small relative to price / label (Queen Premium). AirCon outside will irritate a light sleeper, but they provide earplugs at reception. I would stay here again.

Some stuff is extremely rude, you need mln physical cards for deposit before one works, the room is loud due to air-conditioning that does not work in the room... the lights are flickering in the room and the room is extremely dark as there are walls facing windows, so no view.

The room was fantastically spacious, great location and great value for money.

Had some issues with the aircondition, in the room it was a bit noisy, the gym could be more comprehensive (mainly crosstrainers and bicycles)

Excellent location in Manhattan. The second room we received was much better comfortable, with a city view. Staff were generally friendly, and we appreciated the daily complimentary water and the kettle provided upon request.

The initial room was facing a wall, noisy due to ventilation, and felt cold. We had to raise the issue several times before the staff agreed to change it, and the process was not smooth. The room change was only possible the next day, which required checking out before 11 and waiting until the afternoon to check into the new room. Some in-room amenities like tea/coffee setup or body lotion were missing, and the fridge was very small. It was also quite noisy throughout the stay, although this may be typical for New York City.

When you are staying here alone and you like social events, I would recomend another hotel. I felt a bit lonely; there is no social culture in the hotel.

The staff is very friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable. The decor is very art deco and attractive. For the price, I highly recommend Freehand.

My room didn’t have much cold water. Weird problem to have. But the front desk removed the service fee from my bill and told me that the next time I stay they would find me a different room. Also the room didn’t have a coffee maker.
