Nestled on a quiet, cobblestone street in SoHo, the Crosby Street Hotel opened in 2009 as the first U.S. property from the London-based Firmdale Hotels. Built from the ground up on a former parking lot, the eleven-story building was designed with sustainability in mind, famously becoming the first hotel in New York State to achieve LEED Gold certification.
The interior aesthetic is the brainchild of co-owner Kit Kemp, who infused the space with her signature whimsical, colorful, and highly eclectic style. No two of the 86 guest rooms are alike, each featuring bold fabrics, custom artwork, and floor-to-ceiling warehouse-style windows that frame views of the surrounding neighborhood. It’s essentially a curated art gallery where you can sleep, complete with striking pieces like Jaume Plensa’s giant sculpture of a human head in the lobby.
Beyond the rooms, the hotel is a beloved local hideaway. Guests can relax in a private, tree-filled sculpture garden, unwind in the colorful Drawing Room, or enjoy a movie in the state-of-the-art 99-seat private screening room. The property also features a rooftop kitchen garden that provides fresh herbs and vegetables for the lively Crosby Bar and Terrace.
The location is a dream for those who enjoy the creative energy of downtown Manhattan. You are steps away from independent art galleries, high-end boutiques, and the historic iron-cast architecture that defines SoHo. It offers a refined, playful sanctuary while remaining perfectly positioned to explore the best of New York City’s shopping and cultural scene.
Expert reviews
“Each of the rooms is individually designed, with fun patterns and colors, big warehouse style windows, and a cozy, residential feel. The location is smack in the heart of the action in SoHo.”

“With high ceilings and full length windows reflective of SoHo’s history as a factory cum gallery district, Hotelier Firmdale’s only non-London property is an all-new structure built in the neighborhood’s classic style, its 86 guest rooms each receiving their own individual designs.”
“Step into Crosby Street for afternoon tea and you’ll never want to leave. It’s not just the scones and clotted cream that will grab you, but the eccentric, loftlike lobby, buzzing bar, film screening room and one-of-a-kind rooms.”
“As much gallery as hotel, the Crosby Street is eye-candy of the first degree. Designed by co-owner Kit Cosby, every room and every public area features quirky, often funny, and always compelling works of sculpture and painting.”
Featured as Frommer’s Exceptional Choice in New York.
“The stateside outpost of U.K.-based Tim and Kit Kemp’s Firmdale hotel group boasts the same eclectic English country-meets-modernist design as its London sisters (think layers of fabrics, textures and colors). Located on a cobblestone street in Soho, Crosby Street feels more residential than most hotels.”
“Tim and Kit Kemp’s 86-room hotel overflows with style, great design, and sophistication, awash with unusual finds and classic details. Every nook and cranny of this Firmdale property really does tell a story. Luxury knows no bounds, yet the five-star service lacks pretence and is remarkably approachable.”

Disappointing due to the dreadful service
Room was comfortable and nicely decorated but small, despite being in one of the top categories
Staff were rude and incompetent; the hotel needs a vastly superior management team

Cute sophisticated Hotel with fabulous staff
The hotel is so charming and we had an AAAmazing view. The staff is beyond impressive and make you feel welcomed and appreciated. The restaurant and bar was very chic, had a cool vibe with great bar hours and delicious breakfast. The shower was like a massage experience—amazing water pressure and shower head with unending hot water. Room service and house keeping were also top notch. Great Soho hotel on a cute cobblestone street!

The best stay in New York City
The staff went above and beyond during our stay - always helpful and friendly
Incredible breakfast
Beautiful comfortable rooms
Luxurious bathrooms
There weren't really dislikes just perhaps paying attention to the light bleed that still comes in from electronics and gaps in curtains
