The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Montreal
The Ritz-Carlton, Montreal is widely known as the “Grande Dame of Sherbrooke Street.” Opening its doors on December 31, 1912, it holds the prestigious distinction of being the first hotel in the world to bear the Ritz-Carlton name. Designed by the famous New York architectural firm Warren & Wetmore—the same team behind Grand Central Terminal—the building remains a stunning example of Neo-classical palazzo style.
This historic landmark has hosted a guest list of legends, from Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth II to Elizabeth Taylor, who famously married Richard Burton in the hotel’s Royal Suite in 1964. Over the years, the hotel has remained at the center of Montreal’s social life, even serving as the site of the first transcontinental telephone call in Canada.
Inside, the hotel masterfully balances its heritage with modern comforts. The glamorous Palm Court lobby, with its century-old chandeliers, still hosts the tradition of Afternoon Tea, while the hotel uniquely features the only Dom Pérignon Champagne Bar in North America. For relaxation, guests can enjoy an indoor saltwater pool that overlooks the city skyline.
Situated in the heart of the Golden Square Mile, the hotel is perfectly positioned for exploring. It is just steps away from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the upscale boutiques of the city’s downtown district. Whether you are strolling through nearby Mount Royal Park or visiting the historic Old Port, the hotel provides a luxurious and deeply cultured base for any visit to Montreal.

“Resplendent after a multi-year renovation, “The Ritz” retains its standing as one of Montreal’s grandest hotels. It’s a new day, with a celebrity chef helming the lobby restaurant and a Dom Perignon bar in the Palm Court.”

The service is paramount.
The property is seasoned. You have to bump up the heater to levels beyond what you set at home to feel comfortable. The breakers to the room tripped during our stay. The pillows were very substandard for a hotel of this caliber.

Comfortable and luxurious
This is a beautiful property, as are all Ritz Carlton locations. the rooms are large and very comfortable. The staff is very attentive.
There was no lounge are in the lobby. There really should be a place to sit and relax or talk that’s not in your room. We tried to sit in an area that us the bar area at night and, even though they weren’t serving, we were told we were not permitted to sit there. I would not choose this property on my next visit to Montreal.

Pleasant helpful staff. Excellent accommodations. Bathroom was incredible.
Breakfast was too expensive.
Location was excellent.
Upon departure there were some issues. We had requested a van the day before, and were told as we were leaving that none were available, so we and our friends had to take two taxis.

Very nice hotel with great staff. Not a bad apple in the barrel.
Exceptional staff-RC training might be the best in the industry, guest room excellent-modern, spacious and well stocked, all requested services rendered promptly and cheerfully.
Dinner at Le Boulud not a good value.
