Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico

We stayed 6 nights at Gran Hotel Ciudad de México with our daughter and absolutely loved everything. Our room overlooking the Zócalo was stunning—spacious, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide and tasty selection. The hotel restaurant was also great, offering delicious food and a breathtaking view of the square. It’s also a lovely spot to enjoy a drink, especially at sunset. The staff was really great—friendly, helpful, and professional. The location felt very safe, with plenty of police presence around. Nothing negative to say—a perfect stay!

The staff were unorganized but did manage to get our requests figured out - it just took some time. No towels in the room, perhaps it was laundry day as when they did arrive, they were bath mats, not bath towels.

Hotel is located right on the Zocalo - great location to explore parts of the city - lots of shopping around. Our room had a view of the square however due to an event happening there our view was obstructed which was unfortunate but still could see a bit of what was going on.

It’s not easy to get to by Uber or taxi, they drop you off on the street and you need to drag your suitcase for 1/2 a block

Had a room close to the square where festivities were occurring so quite noisy. Friends had a room at the back and it was much quieter

I treated myself on my last night in Mexico. And they treated me! Champaign on arrival. Was given a history of the hotel by the friendly man who help me with the bags. The restaurant gives a great view of the squire but would give it a 5 out of ten.

GORGEOUS! A must see, even if you don’t stay here. The Tiffany ceiling is a masterpiece. The Terraza restaurant really does offer spectacular views of the Zocolo, especially at night. The entire staff from the Doormen, to the waitstaff, to housekeeping are 5 stars! They greeted us with champagne flutes. There was a plate of sweets welcoming me to the hotel in the room. The maids serviced the room each day. The restaurant reserves space for their guests so you can walk in without a reservation. The rooms are spacious with high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. It truly is grand!

Every time the AC comes on and off, it makes a clanging sound like someone dropped a weight.

What a beautiful hotel! Your jaw drops when you enter. Our room was beautiful and comfortable. What really stood out were the bellboys! They are the first impression when you enter the hotel and nothing is too much trouble. So friendly and helpful. Big shoutout to Abraham!

The air conditioning in our room was noisy and there is a lot of noise on the street (this is no fault of the hotel, just the location) but at least the noise died down by the time we were ready for bed.

The room was clean and very comfortable. The staff was amazing, friendly and helpful with great recommendations for local cuisine.

The location of the hotel is wonderful. Very beautiful and special. Excellent breakfast with a discount. Unfortunately, the lobby toilets were locked and access was only possible through the reception who had the key. Hotels usually have a tourist information desk that offers city and out-of-town tours, but this hotel does not.

The food for breakfast was good and with the view from the terrace excellent. I was a little disappointed that the lunch menu and quality of service was not as good as the breakfast experience.

Love the hotel but disappointed in Booking.com because they advertise the view of the zocalo but the rooms offered dont have the view. When we arrived they explained that was booking.coms fault and that they were aware booking.com oversells.

The staff was so kind and personable. The location was excellent for someone who is very interested in history. The restaurant view was fantastic. I went there every day.

The Hotel organized a driver and car for the day to visit sites outside the city centre. Our driver Christiano really helped to make the day special by taking us to the best entrances and answered our questions.

Such a beautiful hotel right on the main square in the historical center of the city. The view from the restaurant as well as our room was incredible. On top of that the staff was super helpful!

Best view over the Zocalo. Staff is extremely helpful. Abraham the bellboy is the BEST advertising the hotel can wish for , when he greet visitants at the entrance, Food on the covered / open terrasse restaurant is vey tasty & at reasonable price. I highly recommend the red snapper / Huachinango. It's a joy to be served by Humberto the waiter. Last but not least please use their Taxi service - José Manuel (Pepe) the driver knows his way thru the city & will pick you up right on time, if you have such an agreement with him.

The floor could in some places be a bit more level, but hey, what can you expect from such an old fantastic hotel ? (just take a look at the Parroquia de la Asunción Sagrario - The church near the palacio nacional.)

Amazing experience full of history and great service. The boys really love the movie Coco and we came here specifically for the architecture. The location is amazing, right next to the Constitution Square.

The room was amazing with a great view of the Zocalo. The staff was top notch always with a smile and great service. The location was optimal and they clear out the Zocalo at night so the sleap was peaceful.

The food was not great; we ordered the pizza the last night as room service, and it was not good. we also ate at the restaurant, and it was lackluster. Overall, the hotel is amazing, and there are tons of good food options all over the place, so I'll still be back despite the food.

Beautiful historic building well-maintained

No taxi/Uber drop-off since entrance ismlocated on closed pedestrian walkway. Not a problem for us, but could be a problem for someone with impaired mobility or a lot of luggage..

This hotel is only about half a block to the zocalo. There’s tons of attractions, restaurants, and shopping within walking distance. The staff is all great and super friendly. There’s a room in the lobby open 24 hours with seating, snacks, and drinks. The rooms are very comfortable and come with lots of things you may have forgotten. The AC works great and there’s a button for blackout curtains if you need to sleep later. The bathroom is spacious and it has great water pressure. The maids are great too. The inside is beautiful and very clean. This is one of my favorite hotels!

The hotel garage was difficult to reach due to traffic restrictions. That also was the case for taxi pick-ups.

Nice view on the second floor. The inside so beautiful , starstruck actually. Alot of attraction closeby. The staff very helpful and gives you update letters when making renovations. Very tasty complimentary snacks in the lounge room for free and to relax. The room is beautiful with all the wall paper and decor.

It’s history

The Gran Hotel Ciudad is a stunning building, perfectly located on the main square. We were upgraded to a very spacious room that looked straight on to the square and was incredibly comfortable, with a lovely bathroom. It was incredibly quiet at night. Every member of staff was friendly, polite and helpful. We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel as we had very early starts but made use of the guest lounge that was open 24 hours a day where you could make a cup of coffee, have a snack and fill up water bottles. We had a drink on the roof terrace looking over the square.

Despite being an historic building, the space feels slightly lacking in atmosphere.

It is a beautiful, historic hotel. Our room was nice and spacious and bathroom was modern with thoughtfully chosen amenities. Comfortable king size bed. And every single person on the staff was warm, welcoming and friendly. Literally the best hotel staff we’ve ever encountered.

We chose to be in Centro Historico because of the amazing things to see and visit. This hotel is right in the heart of it on the zocalo, which is the main square. The Zocalo is surprisingly clean…no litter. But it’s also noisy. We knew that going in but thought the location and the hotel itself were worth it. And they were. It isn’t loud enough to disrupt sleep, but you will hear music and other sounds in the late afternoon and evening. Just get into it—it’s part of the ambience.

Incredible stained glass ceiling and interior. Fantastic views of Zocalo from the terrace. Warm welcome from staff that were very helpful. Welcome drink and lovely surprise in the room on arrival. Huge choice at breakfast. Comfortable lounge for residents to relax in. Great central location.

Despite the hotel being in an older building, the location is unbeatable, right in the heart of the city with easy access to everything. The room was spacious, well-maintained, and comfortable, providing a cozy retreat. The view from the room was absolutely stunning, offering a great perspective of the surrounding area. Overall, a wonderful stay!

The hotel is beautiful and located on the Zocolo. We had easy access to everything.

The streets in front of and adjacent to the hotel's entrance are pedestrian zones and closed to cars. We were very confused when our Uber from the airport dropped us 2 blocks away. If we'd known we could have planned better.

This is a beautiful hotel. The rooms were exquisite and very comfortable. The breakfast up on the 4th floor offered breathtaking views. The staff were very attentive. The fitness centre is very good for a hotel too.

This hotel might not suit you for a long stay as the inner city is a bit sketchy at night and a bit touristy during the day.

this hotel was so wonderful what really made it shine was the staff they are truly passionate and we had the best experience, location was perfect for touring mexico city would stay there again!
