Wombat’s CITY Hostel, London

The hostel was quite clean and the staff were very helpful. The bar and gardens are a very nice addition to the hostel and make great third spaces. There are plenty of opportunities to socialize in the bar during events hosted by the hostel. The large lockers in the rooms are perfect and the curtains next to each bed make for good privacy.

Both the elevators kept breaking and you had to wait a long time on them. One of the two elevators was broken for near the entirety of my weeks’ stay. Since my room was on the top floor, this made getting there a bit of a hassle most of the time. The breakfast was nice but it could’ve been a bit more elaborate.

Everything was perfect!

Clean, quiet, nice ventilation (important when you’re living in a room full of people, safe area, close to Tower Bridge. The reception staff were fab, I kinda have a knee problem and couldn’t climb ladders, so the reception folk found a room for me where there is still a lower bunk. Greatly appreciated!

Clean and well maintained property. The bar and cafe are convenient. Great location, close lots of public transportation. Felt safe.

Affordable, good location, everyone has a separate locker in the room and a small safe.

You have to pay additionaly for the towel (2£)

Not enough space in fridge

Perfect location. (If you have a program at Wembley, you can get there easily.) Clean, comfortable room and bed, my roommates were quiet and nice. Bathroom is excellent with very hot water. Locker enough big for my luggage. And I just loved the atmosphere and the coffe at the bar.

Good hostel with a good location, close to Tower Hill, the room was nice and clean and the bathroom and sink in the room also were nice. I especially liked the locker and fan in the bunk. Also the acces with the keycard for every floor felt really nice and safe and the security seemed pretty good!

It’s quite close to a train track, so if you are a light sleeper that might not be great. The matrasses also were a bit thin, but I still thought they were comfortable.

Great hostel and made many new friends here! The rooms are very small but the bathrooms are huge and really nice. You also get a lot of privacy in your bunk and a little fan which was nice

Can’t think of anything I didn’t like

This was the 4th time I was staying here and it keeps on getting better.i stayed in a room with 3bunk beds and people were so nice and quiet and every one respected your privacy .The kitchen was perfect and i was cooking there all the time.I had an exam so was studying in their beutiful outside sitting area and no one disturbed me. LOVE THIS HOSTEL SO MUCH and the STAFF and CENTRAL location and the PEOPLE in it.

The kitchen was a little dirty and a lot of the stove tops weren't working

I stayed only one night and for a quick visit for business it was more than good.

The kitchen was a bit dirty

High quality hostel. Very comfortable dorm- comfy beds , privacy curtain, fan, security box, clean and modern rooms, all good. Most comfortable hostel dorm I've stayed in. Large kitchen with everything you need. Staff were friendly. Bar downstairs and coffee shop offers opportunities for socializing if you're looking to meet people but pretty chill place if you just wanna keep to yourself too. Location is pretty good, not perfect but a couple of underground stations are within a ten minute walk so no complaints really.

Not much. There are cheaper hostels in London but they are less comfortable and more on the grim side, so for me the slightly more expensive price is worth it. Can nitpick the location and only two elevators but a lot of London hostels don't even have an elevator. And overall it was very much good value

Don't o anywhere else! Wombat's is the best! I saw on the wall at reception that Wombat's had been voted best Hostel multiple years in a row and I can see why. The phrase "you get what you pay for" does not apply to this hostel - you get much more than you paid for. The many positives were: -clean -rooms are fairly spacious -large showers! -beds are pretty comfortable, -bunks are stable and don't creak, wiggle, or make a lot of noise, -there are large easy to use lockers to keep belongings secure and a small one right in your bunk which made it super easy for me to store the things I use at night securely - meds, headphones, etc., - great location within 10 minutes walk of any bus or train to your destination. -Staff were friendly and the vibes of all the travelers staying there was respectful. -The bar is welcoming and not too loud. -fairly quiet neighborhood as far as central london goes. -no a/c in the rooms but the fan in the bed really made sleeping bearable on that one scorching night. -privacy curtains -community kitchen

-2 out of 4 of the stove stops didn't work in the kitchen. -There was only one toilet in the room for 6 girls and the only other shared toilets were located on the first floor, so if we really needed to use it and it was occupied you had to go all the way downstairs. -One of the elevators was broken which made waiting times super long if you needed to use the elevator. -No elevator access to the luggage room -some bunks were awkward to access because the fan was located right in front of the latter. -The community kitchen was not 24 hour access.

It is a very nice hostel with friendly staff, a nice courtyard, good kitchen and fun pub. Spacious locker to put my stuff in and a small one in the bed with a plug. That was very convenient. Room was very clean, except the fan at the bed. That was full of dust and I didn't dare to turn it on for that reason. Bathroom was nice and clean, but only a rainshower and not a separate hand one. The vibe was nice and chilled and people behaved well.

Comfortable bed but I never like the faff of having to make a bed myself with a sheet that is always going everywhere. There was no mirror in the room so I couldn't see what I was doing styling my hair. There was nothing to wipe the bathroom with except your own towel. For me the location was just off because I had bad public transport connections.

The kitchen, seating spaces, outdoor area and good mattress plus large shower with excellent temperature and pressure everything was immaculate

Maybe the aloofness of some staff at the front counter

The staff were very friendly and helpful; the location was central and easy to navigate; the room seemed remarkably quiet; everything seemed clean; having a bar on site for a drink before bed was surprisingly comforting; the open-seating breakfast made for nice conversations with other travelers; the presence of security outside the building and through the bar felt like the hostel was protecting the guests (it didn't feel threatening or aggressive, just precautionary).

It could have been a little more comfortable (everything was very spare/ soap etc were available for purchase).

Great staff, nice cafe, and great atmosphere! The room for 6 had a sink, separate shower and toilet so it never felt crowded.

Good staff, nice building with good social spaces, good bed with curtain, safe, fan, and charge points. You can get cheaper beds elsewhere in London, but nowhere near as nice. This is great value for what you get.

My second stay here and I'd absolutely stay again, but I do note that I prefer some rooms to others - this one was fine but laid out a bit less well, had a bit less floor space (so cluttered easily), and was hotter. Still happy overall though.

The hostel is very clean and the rooms is spacious. The localization is not far of the underground, about five minutes. The kitchen is awesome to cook.

I had a peoblem with my locker, so I asked to a staff help me, and nobody do it. Result of that, I didn't use my room's locker. Second situation, I had used the dryer, I followed the instrutions but it didn't work, thus I asked to other staff for help again and she said that nobody could help me. I feel me very helpless in Wombat's Hostel. If some customer needs help, you are alone in this place.

It was nice and had good facilities! patio, bar,rooftop etc. Nice bed, clean, ensuite, late check out is cheap. Staff is so nice aswell and gave us an early check in.

The hostel didn’t have air conditioning , just fans in every bed, but i woke up at 5 and needed to get fresh air outside cuz it was unbearable for me. it was 30°C that day so i understand. But central aircon would make it a 10 especially since it’s actually a nice and good hostel. Pillows are a bit flat.

+ own bathrooms in shared rooms + bar and café to relax and socialize + modern and well equipped (key card locker, fan, safe,...) + 24h reception and security staff give you a good feeling

- breakfast is a bit simple for the price but still okay! - top beds are a bit uncomfortable to reach - windows only half open, which was annoying during those hot nights in July

you meet soooo many people there, everyone is nice. Its just amazing.

Very nice Bar, some awesome events to meet new people. Had a great time there and would recommend to stay there.

This is a great hostel - really nice looking, good staff, generally very clean, and a decent value bed with curtain, safe, charge points, shelt, and a locker nearby. My room was spacious enough that even though several peoples' luggage didn't fit in their lockers, there was still plenty of space and they could still lock up their most important bits (the lockers are a decent size, just not big suitcase size - they also work on your keycard so no lock needed). The breakfast looked great and excellent value, it just didn't fit in with my plans so I didn't get to try it. Great social spaces and coffee etc; lots of good places to eat, get coffee, grab groceries nearby as well. Obviously anyone looking at the reviews should make their own call about location - it's nice and central so will suit a lot of people, a bit more travel if, like me, you want to spend a chunk of your time in Brixton.

Nothing that would stop me staying again, just 1) I would much prefer a solid 'back' to the bunk so that it's harder to drop stuff off the side of the bed and because it would help with light pollution, especially as the upper bunk light is directed down the gap (and you may have someone above you that likes to sleep with it on!), and 2) although generally really clean, under the bunks could be cleaned better (though I imagine that can be tricky and time-consuming) and there seemed to be an issue with the sanitary bins getting emptied in the basement (though I imagine staff don't have much control over that). This is honestly a really great place to stay though.

So welcoming and easy to access. Twin private room was great. Felt v secure. Good facilities with large shower room and safe.

Location is excellent for transport links but incredibly noisy as next to the main lines out of Fenchurch Street station. I brought earplugs with me which helped.

The hostel was great! I stayed in a mixed dorm and as a solo female traveler, I felt really safe. The entire place was very clean, and the bed was cozy. The staff were helpful and very kind. The hostel also has a kitchen where you can cook your own meals or store food in the fridge — which is a big plus! There is also a store nearby that closes at 23:00 and is great for a late night snack.

The lockers were a bit smaller than I expected, but my small suitcase and a bag fit, so it was fine — though I’m not sure if anything more would have fit. The location was a little further from the main tourist spots, but you're just a 5-minute walk from Tower Bridge and close to the Tube, which connects you to everything :)

I accidentally left a very sentimental item in my locker and I cannot express how awesome the reception staff David and Issy were - I fought for my life with Royal Mail to organise a collection and they stood by with my package the whole time and even helped me arrange it even though it was totally not their problem, all while being apologetic for the hassle (which just was not their fault at all). Location was good being close to East Algate station. Dorms were super clean and bathroom was spacious. Great vibes in the bar.

The rooms got a little hot but the individual fans were a nice touch (not included in Wombats Munich!), wifi wasn’t great (could google but not load videos).

First time in London and was the best first experience thanks so much.

So spacious and it was really accesible for everything! It was so wonderful being just a walk away from the tower hill metro.

The wifi unfortunately for me was constantly slow and often unusable, I’d have better luck with data outside the hostel. Maybe that’s for the better though so I could be in the moment! Lol! But definitely a bit frustrating when I needed time to wind down or wanted some gps directions.

The friendliness of staff and the layout of the hostel. The courtyard was lovely, the breakfast was excellent.

The location was a 10 minute walk to the tube station. Easy to access other places in London.

The rooms were very hot, even with the small personal fan in each bed area. I would’ve been willing to pay extra for an air-conditioned room.

Wonderful place with lots of space and great service. Everything well maintained and clean. Offers privacy even in dorms and great space for your stuff. Best hostel I ever stayed in.

Lovely welcoming atmosphere

This is my secure place to stay every time I come to London. Place is really cool and staff is amazing. Location is also very good.

Rooms were slightly warm due to the hot weather, but beds are equipped with independent fans so it was manageable

Super boujee hostel but for a good reason. The rooms and bathrooms are super clean. The ensuite is an absolute win and the kitchen is well equipped. The downstairs bar is super cool as well!

Luggage storage was great for early arrival and the guest shower after flying from Australia!! Loved my single room and ensuite. Thank God for the pedestal fan. Survived London’s heat wave very nicely in Room 305. Kitchen handy for making quick breakfast. Waitrose supermarket down the road.

Smokers overtaking the courtyard. Designate the upper courtyard to them and the big one for non-smokers.

It's a good hostel, near bus stations and it feels safe to walk at night.

It's a lot of people for one single bathroom but the bright side is, the restroom is separated and there's a sink outside too.
