Wombat’s CITY Hostel, London

The staff were very friendly and helpful; the location was central and easy to navigate; the room seemed remarkably quiet; everything seemed clean; having a bar on site for a drink before bed was surprisingly comforting; the open-seating breakfast made for nice conversations with other travelers; the presence of security outside the building and through the bar felt like the hostel was protecting the guests (it didn't feel threatening or aggressive, just precautionary).

It could have been a little more comfortable (everything was very spare/ soap etc were available for purchase).

Great staff, nice cafe, and great atmosphere! The room for 6 had a sink, separate shower and toilet so it never felt crowded.

Good staff, nice building with good social spaces, good bed with curtain, safe, fan, and charge points. You can get cheaper beds elsewhere in London, but nowhere near as nice. This is great value for what you get.

My second stay here and I'd absolutely stay again, but I do note that I prefer some rooms to others - this one was fine but laid out a bit less well, had a bit less floor space (so cluttered easily), and was hotter. Still happy overall though.

The hostel is very clean and the rooms is spacious. The localization is not far of the underground, about five minutes. The kitchen is awesome to cook.

I had a peoblem with my locker, so I asked to a staff help me, and nobody do it. Result of that, I didn't use my room's locker. Second situation, I had used the dryer, I followed the instrutions but it didn't work, thus I asked to other staff for help again and she said that nobody could help me. I feel me very helpless in Wombat's Hostel. If some customer needs help, you are alone in this place.

It was nice and had good facilities! patio, bar,rooftop etc. Nice bed, clean, ensuite, late check out is cheap. Staff is so nice aswell and gave us an early check in.

The hostel didn’t have air conditioning , just fans in every bed, but i woke up at 5 and needed to get fresh air outside cuz it was unbearable for me. it was 30°C that day so i understand. But central aircon would make it a 10 especially since it’s actually a nice and good hostel. Pillows are a bit flat.

+ own bathrooms in shared rooms + bar and café to relax and socialize + modern and well equipped (key card locker, fan, safe,...) + 24h reception and security staff give you a good feeling

- breakfast is a bit simple for the price but still okay! - top beds are a bit uncomfortable to reach - windows only half open, which was annoying during those hot nights in July

you meet soooo many people there, everyone is nice. Its just amazing.

This is a great hostel - really nice looking, good staff, generally very clean, and a decent value bed with curtain, safe, charge points, shelt, and a locker nearby. My room was spacious enough that even though several peoples' luggage didn't fit in their lockers, there was still plenty of space and they could still lock up their most important bits (the lockers are a decent size, just not big suitcase size - they also work on your keycard so no lock needed). The breakfast looked great and excellent value, it just didn't fit in with my plans so I didn't get to try it. Great social spaces and coffee etc; lots of good places to eat, get coffee, grab groceries nearby as well. Obviously anyone looking at the reviews should make their own call about location - it's nice and central so will suit a lot of people, a bit more travel if, like me, you want to spend a chunk of your time in Brixton.

Nothing that would stop me staying again, just 1) I would much prefer a solid 'back' to the bunk so that it's harder to drop stuff off the side of the bed and because it would help with light pollution, especially as the upper bunk light is directed down the gap (and you may have someone above you that likes to sleep with it on!), and 2) although generally really clean, under the bunks could be cleaned better (though I imagine that can be tricky and time-consuming) and there seemed to be an issue with the sanitary bins getting emptied in the basement (though I imagine staff don't have much control over that). This is honestly a really great place to stay though.

So welcoming and easy to access. Twin private room was great. Felt v secure. Good facilities with large shower room and safe.

Location is excellent for transport links but incredibly noisy as next to the main lines out of Fenchurch Street station. I brought earplugs with me which helped.

The hostel was great! I stayed in a mixed dorm and as a solo female traveler, I felt really safe. The entire place was very clean, and the bed was cozy. The staff were helpful and very kind. The hostel also has a kitchen where you can cook your own meals or store food in the fridge — which is a big plus! There is also a store nearby that closes at 23:00 and is great for a late night snack.

The lockers were a bit smaller than I expected, but my small suitcase and a bag fit, so it was fine — though I’m not sure if anything more would have fit. The location was a little further from the main tourist spots, but you're just a 5-minute walk from Tower Bridge and close to the Tube, which connects you to everything :)

I accidentally left a very sentimental item in my locker and I cannot express how awesome the reception staff David and Issy were - I fought for my life with Royal Mail to organise a collection and they stood by with my package the whole time and even helped me arrange it even though it was totally not their problem, all while being apologetic for the hassle (which just was not their fault at all). Location was good being close to East Algate station. Dorms were super clean and bathroom was spacious. Great vibes in the bar.

The rooms got a little hot but the individual fans were a nice touch (not included in Wombats Munich!), wifi wasn’t great (could google but not load videos).

First time in London and was the best first experience thanks so much.

So spacious and it was really accesible for everything! It was so wonderful being just a walk away from the tower hill metro.

The wifi unfortunately for me was constantly slow and often unusable, I’d have better luck with data outside the hostel. Maybe that’s for the better though so I could be in the moment! Lol! But definitely a bit frustrating when I needed time to wind down or wanted some gps directions.

The friendliness of staff and the layout of the hostel. The courtyard was lovely, the breakfast was excellent.

The location was a 10 minute walk to the tube station. Easy to access other places in London.

The rooms were very hot, even with the small personal fan in each bed area. I would’ve been willing to pay extra for an air-conditioned room.

Wonderful place with lots of space and great service. Everything well maintained and clean. Offers privacy even in dorms and great space for your stuff. Best hostel I ever stayed in.

This is my secure place to stay every time I come to London. Place is really cool and staff is amazing. Location is also very good.

Rooms were slightly warm due to the hot weather, but beds are equipped with independent fans so it was manageable

Super boujee hostel but for a good reason. The rooms and bathrooms are super clean. The ensuite is an absolute win and the kitchen is well equipped. The downstairs bar is super cool as well!

Luggage storage was great for early arrival and the guest shower after flying from Australia!! Loved my single room and ensuite. Thank God for the pedestal fan. Survived London’s heat wave very nicely in Room 305. Kitchen handy for making quick breakfast. Waitrose supermarket down the road.

It's a good hostel, near bus stations and it feels safe to walk at night.

It's a lot of people for one single bathroom but the bright side is, the restroom is separated and there's a sink outside too.

Lobby with great cafe and space to hang out. Underground bar was huge and unique. All the staff super kind and helpful.

Not enough hooks in and near sinks to hang towels, toiletry bags, etc. You can never have too many hooks. Luggage storage worked, but it was a bit of a trek and process to use it as it's a paid self-service locker. It's ok though if you're prepared to have time to do it, instead of just leaving bag in room near reception like most other places.

It exceeded our expectations. This was our first experience at a hostel, we were very happy we chose to spend the night at Wombat’s. We booked a private room, which I did not think was even an option in a hostel, which is why I booked it. Our room was quiet, which provided us with a great night sleep, before heading to Heathrow. While we are not big breakfast eaters, they offered a breakfast buffet for £8 and change. We got coffee and pastries, which were delish. I had always wondered what a hostel was like, I figured since we can have our own room why not check it out. Another check off the bucket list, London ✅ Night at a hostel ✅. Although they are both checked, we plan to return to explore more of London and will definitely keep Wombat in our lodging plans. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, too! 🙌🏼

It can be difficult to fit food items in a bag into the 2 fridges. Another one would certainly help. But I’ve always managed one way or another.

Best hostel I've ever stayed at. Great atmosphere, really good to meet people as a solo traveller and good facilities. Comfy beds and really clean. Highly recommend

Quite expensive when you add all the additional charges like towels etc. you have to bring almost everything yourself (apart from the bedsheets). Lockers are also paid.

Excellent stay here. There is a laundry room with plenty of washers, the elevator is great, and I enjoyed interacting with other people in the common room, which features games and events. Rooms are spacious and comfortable.

Paying for luggage storage, it was a bit of a hassle to carry my luggage into the top storage box.

The bed and sheets are delicious. Private room is comfortable. No TV. WC like in a hospital with a lot of support for elderly and people with disabilities. Nice breakfast option.

Its homely, young and inviting. Staff great, location fab. Good to have a terrace, social area downstairs, bar lady was very friendly.

We were in the basement, room 136, you get noise above from chairs moving when the cleaners arrive. The terrace shuts at 10pm, so the outside noise stopped.

The location is not the best maybe a few days to explore around the shortidsh area, you have to pay to store your luggage before/after stay which isn’t cheap it should be provided free The towel rent is also not refundable

Location is just walking distance to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Small fan with your bed which is good for warm weather

Excellent hostel like all the Wombat's in Europe. Comfortable rooms, beds with soft white comforters, large lockers in the room , and strong security system throughout the hostel. Superb staff, friendly upbeat and knowledgeable. Rentable lockers before and after checkout.

Location. It's on the far east side of town, a long trip from Heathrow on the west, followed by a half mile walk from the metro. Not in the center of London activity Once you get there, the hostel is outstanding.

Cleanliness and availability of everything at one place and good staff

I was in bunk bed on the top, the stairs weren’t comfortable as there was nothing to hold onto while climbing up ( like a handle or something to balance while approaching). Rest everything was good.

10-minute walk to the tube, close to the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, pretty easy to get to other attractions

Great atmosphere - instantly felt welcomed and safe as a solo traveler. Rooms were really clean and comfortable. Every bed belonged to a locker which worked perfectly and fit all of my luggage. The beds were really comfortable. All in all it lacked of nothing.

As there is a club/disco attached to the hostel it was quite loud when trying to sleep but nothing that can’t be solved with a pair of ear plugs.
