Wombat’s CITY Hostel, London

I love staying in Wombats whenever I'm in London. It's easy to get around everywhere from there and the rooms are a great size. I really appreciate that the rooms have an en suite and the privacy curtains! The staff is also super friendly and the amenities are amazing - to have a fully functioning kitchen, bar, and cafe on site is great!

The elevator takes FOREVER AND A DAY to get anywhere.

It is a really neat setup, the beds are comfortable and there is a large breakfast + communal area on the basement floor. Wombat is very central and easily accessible by subway.

The room is not too packed, although I have been assigned to a Ground room, but there is enough Air flow with AC! The air is fresh. The bed is good with a locker and a large personal locker with an ensuite bathroom. will come next time. The Bar public area is good for hanging out and meeting other travellers, with different event each day Breakfast is valuable.

The locker has no power supply.

Location was brilliant. Loved the facilities and it felt very safe. Great kitchen and bar. Lots of couches, charging points and seating. Good sized lockers too.

Not many bowls in the kitchen.

The hostel is part of a bigger hostel chane and has everything you need (hair dryer, games, table football, bar, pub, coffee, courtyard, ear plugs for when your roommate will snor too loud...). The underground bar is very cool with brick walls and arches and soft seating/benches. They had vegan options available at the pub and bar (Mexican kitchen inspired toast, plant-based milk). Breakfast was OK. The homemade hummus was very good. The room and bathroom were comfortable. I could stay in the lobby after check-out to work on the laptop, where there are a cafe, table, sockets, and benches to lie down. Comfortable for digital nomads.

You have to make your own bed and take the bed sheets down at the checkout, which is annoying if you have a lot of luggage to carry or get in very late or/and very tired. They are saving on the staff.

The location is really convenient and the staffs were very friendly.

It would be nice to have some cleanup done between the bed and the wall, as there was quite a bit of dust.

I loved having the ensuite toilet and bathroom inside the room. Pretty much the entire staff team are very friendly and helpful. Nevertheless, I had a not a good experience with one of the front desk staff, perhaps she was not having a good day.

The room was clean; however, the bottom bunk bed was dirty underneath. It seems it needs it a good vacuum. One of the front desk staff members was a bit rude; she was not very helpful when I asked her for some help.

What a cozy and clean space with friendly and helpful staff.

Nothing to dislike. Earplugs can fix the noisy street outside if necessary.

The hostel is large and pretty comfortable, emplpyees are always kind, there are nice facilities such as a good caffe and a very cool pub underground. Rooms are large and comfortable with reliable lockers for small objects on each bed, as well as large ones for the bags. The bed is comfortable as well and beddings are new and in good condition. There are curtains on the beds for more privacy and private bathrooms and toilets on each room, which I loved. Totally recomend the hostel!

Good location near the City and well connected via public transport. Excellent beds, clean and comfortable.

I accidentally booked a mixed room instead of an all female room. I explained this to one of the reception staff (i don’t remember his name :( but he was wearing a durag) and he was kind enough to manage to put me in a mixed room where there was only women in it. I felt very safe and comprehended at the time and it stayed like that for the rest of my trip :)

The location is amazing, close to many attractions, public transport, and good restaurants. The facilities are also great and easy to use, and the breakfast has a good cost-benefit, although I did not bought it all days to explore around. The bathroom in the shared room is amazing, one of the best showers I ever used.

The bed was really not up to expectation, the mattress is really thin and uncomfortable, and the bars and thin "stairs" make it really hard to use the bunk bed, it's really sad because everything else in their structure is great, so it makes the bedding very deception.

Generally the facility was good and basically everything you need can be found.

There is a fan attached right at the entrance to the bunk bed I used, so it’s not easy to get up and down of the bunk bed.

The location was good for my necessities, the property is clean and safe.

The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that they are not so flexible about borrowing things as hair dryer they asked for a cash deposit (personally nowadays I don’t have cash -just debit card-) they could be more flexible and take an ID instead.

Great value for money, incredibly central, friendly staff, clean.

The beds were very tight and it was a rather small room. The windows only opened a little so I found the room smelt from the people staying there and as it was very close quaters that was the only challenge.

Location is alright, it’s an easy short walk to the closest tube station (tower hill) and you can also take a nice walk to the tower bridge. I felt safe and secure at this hostel as you cannot go anywhere without scanning in. Staff were all friendly and helpful. I do need to give a shoutout to the cleaning team was very on top of it and thorough although depending on what floor you are on they will be in your room early. Each bunk has its own little shelf, light, fan, usb port, socket, and a secure mini coded locker. Common area and bar area and outdoor seating area are nice features. Little cafe is cute. Kitchen area felt clean and organized.

The linens situation isn’t my favorite. You are resharing the same purple inner duvet and pillow over and over. Just the white linens are replaced. You also have to bring your linens down when you checkout which can be a hassle if you’re carrying a lot. Staff were all nice didn’t explain too much at check in. I didn’t know how to use my tall locker with the key, didn’t know the wifi code, and also didn’t know I would have to make my own bed and bring my linens down. The bunks are not the easiest to climb up or down and because of where the lockers are stored, bottom bunk persons head will be located where top bunk persons feet will be coming down the ladder. Not the most social hostel. It might just be my luck but my room was only people with very short stays, older grown adults on work. The people in the common areas were all students on I suppose a class trip so overall not much socializing. Breakfast was almost 8 pounds and it wasn’t impressive. Just a cold continental situation.

They have beds with curtains which is the reason why I selected this hostel

There was constant noise in the room, probably from ventilation, it was impossible to sleep without earplugs. Location is not perfect especially when the nearby tube station is closed. I couldn’t use the socket near the bed as I needed to use plug adapter and there wasn’t enough space for it because of the shelf under the socket.

What I liked most was how clean EVERYTHING is. The staff is very friendly. I am talkative and I have spoken to several of them and they were all very kind giving me directions to the London area. It really is a good place to sleep if your budget does not reach a 5 star hotel. :-)
