Hotel ZaZa Museum District, Houston
Hotel ZaZa Museum District is a bold, eclectic retreat situated in the cultural heart of Houston. Unlike traditional luxury hotels, it embraces a playful, “Texas-style” opulence that feels both eccentric and high-end. Its design is famous for a mix of rich textures, quilted velvet, and glittering chandeliers, creating an environment that feels more like an immersive art installation than a standard hotel stay.
The property is perhaps best known for its quirky “Concept Suites” and the “Magnificent Seven” collection, which include imaginative themes like a celestial-inspired room and the tongue-in-cheek “Houston We Have a Problem” suite. Beyond the rooms, guests can relax at the pool—often considered the hotel’s social center—or enjoy the upscale Monarch Bistro, which serves as a popular gathering spot for locals and travelers alike.
Its location is a major draw, placing guests steps away from the city’s prestigious cultural hub. The hotel is within walking distance of 19 renowned institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts and the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
For those looking to explore further, the lush grounds of Hermann Park and the Houston Zoo are just minutes away. Whether you are in town for the world-renowned Texas Medical Center or simply to soak in the local art scene, the hotel serves as a vibrant, unconventional home base that captures the creative spirit of the neighborhood.
Expert reviews
“This 12-story hotel in the heart of the leafy Museum District offers some of the splashiest digs in town, suitable for rock stars, escapist vacationers, and business travelers with time to play. The Magnificent Seven are ultra-swanky themed suites.”

“Think taxidermy, chandeliers, prints on prints on prints, video walls, a pool area that rivals Vegas casinos, and lots of lacquer. It can come across as trying too hard, but there’s nothing else like it in the city.”

Really a fantastic and peaceful hotel for an elegant stay.
Comfortable bed and linens. Quiet and large room. View of treetops out the windows was beautiful. Shower-- great water pressure.
The public spaces in the hotel were dark. There were no trashcans in the lobby or in the area around the valet. The bathroom did not have enough hooks for towels.

Hotel ZaZa is such a beautiful & welcoming property, staffed by friendly and professional employees.
Friendly and professional, all your staff went above and beyond to make our stay so enjoyable! Thank you for the complimentary shuttle, which even took us to our son's home (within the magical 3 -mile radius!). That was a surprise for me..The "butler's pantry" coffee, tea and biscotti served each morning were very much appreciated.
Our view from our balcony was breathtaking!
Our scrumptious breakfasts served in your beautiful restaurant started each day wonderfully, and though we did not get an opportunity to enjoy your inviting outdoor pool we plan to do so when we return!
Unfortunately our return to the hotel by shuttle on a Saturday night was not available due to the late busy hour..But certainly understandable.

We do not normally have the money to stay in a hotel like yours, but I am glad we splurged for a truly wonderful experie
The artwork. So eclectic. Unique shape of the building. Nice to stay somewhere that is not all right angles. Great shower. The valet team was so kind and pleasant.
I wish the beds in the double rooms were queens. Pillows were too long to fit side by side and sharing the bed was very cozy.

Excellent location and great value
The location was an A+. Many museums and eating locations within walking distance. Rode the train to the NRG Center for a concert!
The room was small for 3 people. Would have preferred queen beds (which is what I expected).

Hotel Zaza Experience
The location was excellent—very convenient for getting around the city. It made exploring local attractions, restaurants, and shops easy and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to stay in a central spot.
While the hotel had a pleasant atmosphere and decent amenities, I was disappointed by a few key issues that significantly affected my stay. One of the house rules stated that no outside food or drinks were allowed, which I found to be quite unreasonable — especially as someone with diabetes. I follow a strict diet due to medical needs. Being told I could only purchase food on-site was frustrating and felt inconsiderate.
Additionally, the lack of a standard refrigerator in the room was a serious concern. I was traveling with medication that needed refrigeration, and my only option was to store it in the mini bar. Since many mini bars use sensors to detect item movement, I was uneasy about being mistakenly charged — not to mention the stress of hoping my medication stayed at the proper temperature.
I understand hotels have policies in place, but I believe more flexibility and accommodation should be given to guests with medical conditions. Unfortunately, these oversights made my stay more stressful than it should have been.

It was a wonderful stay at an elegant venue!
I specifically chose Hotel ZaZa Museum District for its proximity to the Huston Fine Art Museum; quiet room with a great west view; comfy bed; delightful patio dining even though it was 95 degrees!
Nothing I can think of.

My fave spot in Houston
Love the view from the balcony rooms. Love the cozy robes and slippers. Love the art and cool vibe of the whole place.
The pool should be open longer (earlier and later) and provide bar service longer.

ZaZa has personality, position, and pizzaz
Unique decor, excellent staff, and the convenience of 1) the nice restaurant on site; and 2) access to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts just down the street. We had a one-night stop-over in Houston after an international flight, and our pleasant stay was a great plus. Our balcony had a nice view of the park and city skyline, too!

Excellent Museum weekend in Houston
Took a birthday weekend to Houston to enjoy the museums. The Fine Arts Museum is literally right across the street, and the Natural Science Museum is 2 blocks away. The Zoo is a lovely 20 minute walk across the park. We booked one of the Petit rooms and were stunned at the size compared to that cited on the website. It seemed a lot bigger, but perhaps the mirror wall gave that illusion. This room had great view of pool. Overall quirky vibe is similar to properties we have visited in London, Barcelona, Milan and others. Similar to such European hotels, there is no coffee maker in room, but instead there is an included coffee/tea service down the hall. Plenty of USB offered in room for charging. We had the opportunity to take advantage of the included shuttle service as we had a dinner that was within the 3 mile radius. We also were able to enjoy the afternoon wine and snack reception a couple of times. Dined at Monarch for breakfast once. Menu prices look a little high, until we received the substantial portions of great quality. Entire staff was excellent. I would say we will definitely recommend the Zaza, but we already have, and that person took her daughter on a similar weekend trip.
The hotel offered me nothing to complain about. One note about Houston transportation is the tram stop is one block away, however the ticket machines on the platforms didn't work for us. Neither with CC nor Cash.

It was beautiful hotel in a great part of the city with wonderful staff.
We loved the location of the hotel. It was right by the museums and public transportation. The staff made the experience amazing! We’d love to give a special shoutout to Bethany at Monarch! She was incredibly kind and warm towards us, gave amazing recommendations on food and drinks and was one of the highlights of our stay. Thank you for having us!

A great getaway for us with an excellent spa experience and museums to visit for days.
The staff's attention to your needs is excellent. The room was very clean and comfortable. I liked that each floor had a coffee/tea service from 6 to 10am. This may seem trivial but important for me that the water in the shower was high volume and well heated.

Loved the vibe.
Located in the heart of the museum district. About one mile from Rice Village. Not in a busy downtown location. Lots of little extras, cookies, granola bars, iced tea in the lobby.
Would have liked to have a concierge in the lobby. The front desk folks were friendly, but many didn’t know the area well and were at a loss to help guests who didn’t know the area.

Holiday at Zaza.
Fantastic, friendly service from every person on staff. Complimentary fruit plate our first evening. Excellent restaurant with huge breakfast omelets. It was a joy to stay here. Could walk across the street to the art museum.
Valet parking was $59 per day, which felt a bit high. Free in and out, though, and quick retrieval.

Loved it! We are returning in the spring!
Loved all the extras-cookies, tea sandwiches, morning fruit, turn down service, energy bars and free local transportation!
Very expensive but somewhat competitive with hotels in the area. Coffee is available on each floor between 6-10. Wish it were available all day. Coffee was excellent.
