The Bonham Hotel, Edinburgh

The hotel premises, staff and restaurant all offered the highest standards of elegent service and atmosphere. Understated, sophisticated and tasteful in all respects. Not an influencer in sight!

Everything was excellent but I would perhaps caution that young families may not find it as wonderfully relaxing as we did.

The property was beautifully decorated and staff very attentive. In a good area, close to restaurants and only a short walk to the shops.

The mattresses are very hard, however they were very happy to add mattress toppers.

A friendly welcome and very helpful staff. Our deluxe double room was stunning. Very clean with a big super comfy bed. Lovely quiet location in a nice area about 20 mins walk from town. Nice cafes and coffee shops only a few minutes away. Bus stop also very close

Lovely Hotel adorned with lots of Art work and beautiful ornaments. Loved my room and the views. In a nice Quiet area. Food was good quality.

Hard Bed 🛌 Staff were quick to respond with a mattress topper which worked well. The room was cold and I was unable to operate the radiator and no instructions. Also I didn't expect the Hotel to be so far to walk to from Princes Street. Best to have a car.

Beautiful building, lovely interior. Fabulous room with wonderful coffee machine and a few thoughtful little touches (milk for coffee- little shortbreads) and environmentally considerate lovely toiletries. Spotlessly clean!

Just quite personal as arthritis in leg- would have preferred a walk in shower (I never asked when booking so my error) as I was worried I c couldn’t get out of bath after shower!

We only had breakfast once, just to try haggis. We were not fans. The breakfast was in our opinion expensive.

Bed was quite hard

The hotel is in a residential neighborhood near the Turkish Embassy and Wealth Managers (due to the tony address) so it is quiet, but also in walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Stockbridge and the tram that takes you to Princes Street, St Andrew Square, Leith and the Port, or even the Airport if you're going the other way. It's a stunning hotel, both inside and out. There's a booklet that tells the history of the two houses joined to form the hotel. The front desk staff is helpful, rooms are a nice size and well-appointed with the Cadillac of Nespresso machines. Coffee and Tea are both provided as well as cups for each. The king bed was so comfortable - the best bed of our 3-bed trip. I appreciated the small empty cabinet in the bathroom that allowed us to put things away - I've never seen that before. Each room is equipped with an umbrella. Water is replaced daily. The TV set-up allowed us to stream from our phone - tech that is up-to-date is so appreciated. And the wi-fi was strong. Breakfast, included in our room rate, was very good and included both the continental breakfast and (buffet) selections as well as a choice from the Ala carte menu. My husband had the full Scottish every day and thoroughly enjoyed it. The dining room is lovely and was a nice place to sit in the morning. Service was efficient and friendly. The bar was also very good - great cocktails, a decent wine list, good scotch and gin selection, and a bar menu with some good choices for a light bite. Room service - we had to leave before breakfast one morning but we were able to pre-order breakfast sandwiches, fruit cups, and coffee to take away. Just ask for a form from the front desk. All-in-all the Bonham is a stand-out hotel with exceptional service and comfort.

Occasionally the staff was more interested in finishing their conversation than taking care of guests.

Beautiful building, decorations, and great artwork. The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious served in delightful surroundings. The location was very good, a lovely quiet area but close enough to the city centre to walk in easily. A really good visit.

Room was very tastefully decorated, spacious and with a nice view over the nearby gardens. I arrived after midnight - staff helpful, courteous and ready to provide service (no mentions of "naw- that is closed for the night").

We are lucky enough to be frequent visitors to this very special hotel and it always impresses. The staff are so helpful and friendly, location is perfect and the food is always wonderful.

Beautiful Georgian property in a quiet location just 30 minute walk to Waverley Station. Our room on the 3rd floor overlooked the city and on to the Firth of Forth. Decoration and facilities were immaculate.

Comfort, luxury, easy access to the city

The Junior Suite was beautifully appointed with a wonderful view over Edinburgh to the Firth of Forth. The evening meal in the restaurant on our second night was excellent and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The bar and lounge area are very well furnished and great places to relax after a long day out exploring the sights. Breakfast is taken in the restaurant and all hot food is cooked to order.Excellent quality. Our biggest plus were the staff who were superb. Will definitely be back.

The beds were comfortable and it felt like a safe area to stay. Parking directly out the back of the hotel was a real bonus.

The temperature in the room was very hard to get right and we felt too hot in the room. Better than being cold but we couldn’t open the window to cool it down. The walls are quite thin so we heard the couple next door quite a lot.

Slightly out of the way of the city centre.

The room was very clean, spacious and charming- despite being in a basement. I'd happily accept it again. Biscuits were excellent. Fresh milk in a fridge- first time ever ( I have stayed in well over 250 hotels). Night duty manager was ready for service, despite my (very) late arrival. I was there during the day, before my room booking. Bar/Lounge staff were polite, efficient and generally excellent. Lunch was lovely. This hotel really is a class apart. It looks forbiddingly posh at first, but turns out to be very friendly.

The shower screen did not swivel, so you had to step into the bath to test the shower's warmth. A minor point though. Breakfast @£26 is too expensive, however good. I must add that I didn't have breakfast as I wished to sleep in. Not sure if I would have paid that though. It is almost as expensive as what I paid in a 4 star hotel in Copenhagen (Europe's most expensive city) in June 2025. The booking.com booking arrangement makes no distinction as to whether a room has single or dual occupancy with regard to breakfast cost. They should fix that. It might be a booking.com flaw. Happy to discuss with/demonstrate to the hotel if this posting is insufficiently clear.

The history , the decor , the staff

I love history of old buildings, so it was nice to stay in one.

When booking to stay at The Bonham it stated that they were parking at the hotel, no mention of extra payment to park there, we stay for 3 nights and were charged £20 a day.

It’s quiet but central situation in the city centre.

Staff were very helpful and friendly, bedroom and en-suite were lovely and so clean, secure parking at a reasonable cost

Was not keen with the vegetable option for my meal but was advised of no other options as all portioned up for the menu, disappointing considering the prices charged but the food eaten was good. Breakfast also good but I thought expensive for my choices. Think the lesson here is when possible and aware of your plans, call ahead to discuss any dietary issues or choices

Grand building and spacious rooms with all the facilities required for a luxurious stay. Location on a quieter road in the west end was perfect. About ten minutes walk from Princes Street and a bit further from the castle and galleries. We don’t mind this though as those areas were busier and noisier. We’d asked for a quiet room and that was what we got, even though it was at the front of the property. Staff were excellent, especially Lucas and Chris at reception who went out of their way to make our stay even better with recommendations and were so helpful.

Nothing about the property. Only reason I dropped a point from the score was the price of the restaurant food which was a tad high. With dreek weather we stayed in a couple of nights and the quality was good just a little pricey by comparison to restaurants.

Amazing hotel in a really stunning, immaculately furnished building. The staff were great and attentive, with rooms that were spacious and well-stocked. I enjoyed my stay so much that I extended it for two more nights!

A bit stuffy. There was an issue about breakfast not being covered for the two people staying in each room which didn’t make sense & I felt was a fault of theirs at booking stage. It was a very expensive overnight and breakfast should have been covered for both guests in each room (not just one guests in each room?!).
