From the moment we arrived at the hotel, we knew that we were in for a splendid experience. The bell men were welcoming and attentative. The reception staff, very accommodating and professional. We checked in at 1pm and our room was ready. An excellent start to our stay. Our room was magnificent and spacious, with welcoming truffles and shortbread biscuits which were delicious. Our child was spoilt with decorative snowmen, freshly baked cookies and milk daily. Carrots, mince pies and milk for Santa were given on Christmas eve, for the big man himself. On Christmas day a beautiful stocking was gifted filled with festive treats. Well received. Breakfast was stupendous, and our Christmas lunch was exceptional, with some beautiful dinner jazz playing in the background. This was one of the best and enjoyable Christmas we've ever had. Our room didn't have a lovely view and at times was dark. The fire alarm going off on boxing day night. We had to go outside in our Pyjamas.

Understated luxury. Staff friendly, warm & genuine but left with enough privacy & independency to be able to relax easily. Food & drinks, delicious. I was worried as the spa was closed for renovations but didn’t miss it or notice any building work.

The hotel location is excellent and attached to the Edinburgh Waverley station and situated between the both towns (new and old). The hotel staff warm greeting. Prompt and early check in. Spacious and clean rooms and optional amenity to children. Food quality and breakfast were excellent.

Exceptional staff service from concierge to waiting and house-keeping. Delicious breakfast and one of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. A generous upgrade just added to the perfect stay.

My artistic wife said in her subjective point of view the decor of the junior suite was a little bland.

The Hotel is in a busy but good location. Near the bus and train station. The staff are attentive and this is easily achieved with so many staff.

The Hotel is in need of updating and investment.

First of all the staff had heard that we were going for my partners birthday and they upgraded our room for us. The staff are very friendly and helpful and despite it being a very high end hotel, the staff are not stuck up or overly formal, they are just normal Edinburgh people. I loved that.

The only improvement would have been if I had stayed longer and had time to use all the facilities.

The attention to detail was outstanding. Putting up a kids tent in the room, a Christmas stocking on the door, wrapping the phone chargers with small clips, all wonderful small touches that made one feel welcome. Service in restaurants was very good!

The Christmas Day meal was very disappointing, especially for the price.

We spent four nights here over Christmas, as a family that travels a lot, this was a stay that really stood out. The staff went the extra mile and the attention to detail was unparalleled. From a little robe and slippers for our daughter. Milk and cookies every evening. One detail that I’ve never had before, was our charing cables next to the bed were neatly tied every night. The staff were all tremendous, if there was an option for a 6th star ⭐️ that would’ve been well deserved.

Our stay at the Balmoral was wonderful. Made so by all the staff but I have to mention a very special thank you to the chef in no1. Unfortunately I was unable to experience the menu with my family that we had so enjoyed on previous visits due to a medical condition I was suffering from at the time. I mearly had to mention the problem and the solution was produced with no fuss. With every course he prepared a small portion of soup that reflected the flavours of the wonderful courses. So big thanks to all.

Very expensive hotel but deservedly 5 star. Everything was amazing, we were treated like Kings (or/and Queens) and would gladly return for more luxury.

My husband had a hip replacement 3 weeks ago and could not climb over a bath to shower. The staff went above and beyond to get us a room with a walk-in shower. I also have severe food allergies and dining staff could not be more helpful. Thank you

Being next to train station has its challenges as street can be very busy and also if you park your car at balmoral we could not get parked as taxis outside hotel … so we had to double park outside

Great location and excellent service throughout. We upgraded our room which was worth the extra charge. The Balmoral is a bit more expensive than other hotels in Edinburgh, but well worth it!

The hotel itself is stunning, lots of character and old features. Decorated for Christmas made it even more special. The room size was perfect.

Can’t say there was anything I didn’t like.

Lovely hotel, architecturally beautiful and imposing. Great location for accessing all the typically tourist sights in Edinburgh. Beautiful public rooms, bar and restaurants. Lovely spacious Rooms and very comfortable large bed.

From the man on the door helping us in with our bag to the room maids to the management, everyone was so attentive to our needs, so helpful and willing to go above and beyond expectations

Breakfast service could be better, and wife's Gluten Free bread was like polystyrene, so easy to serve good quality Gluten Free products nowadays.

Ideally situated next to Waverley station and on the Main Street, near a tram stop which ran to the airport. Luxurious feel and lovely comfortable room. Excellent soundproofing from the outside world. Highly attentive staff. Nice swimming pool and spa area and very extensive gym!

It’s on a very busy part of princes st right next to Waverley station - I thought very convenient but if you want somewhere a bit quieter this is not for you.

Beautiful grand hotel and very central. Stunning vibey and beautiful bar.

The carpet in the entrance area was very dirty which detracted from the stunning space!

Location Amazing views Great service

We had a Deluxe room which was huge, very comfortable and great bathroom. Location was amazing, especially as im disabled, close to great shops and restaurants. Breakfast was served and buffet, lovely. Children aren't allowed in the bar but allowed around the corner in the same area. Dinner in the Brasserie was amazing, well worth a visit with lovely staff. All the staff were very friendly and polite!

Only complaint was if you sit near the bar during breakfast they fill the ice about 10.00am which is very noisy and not pleasant when eating breakfast. I did tell a staff member but I heard it the same the next 2 mornings, so obviously didnt take any notice of me!!

The staff are all wonderful without exception, the bars and restaurants are the best in Edinburgh

Our room was an odd layout and the sofa had a tear in it.
