Generator Hostel, Dublin

Good location for exploring the city. Nice bar with good food to recover from traveling.

Bathroom was a bit dated but clean and functional. We really only slept there, so it was fine.

Staff are very nice. Room was immaculate..

€7.50 for a pint of Guinness is expensive

The location is in walking distance to the city center/Grafton Street. The hostel has a modern design. the rooms are simple as common for a hostel. The stuff was friendly and cooperative. The hosts is equipped with with a bar, snooker tables, beer pongs and scuffle boards.

The room I stayed in had a weird shower tub. Due to its elevated installation it was difficult to get in. I think the room was even ment to be for disabled visitors. I wonder how there were supposed to use it. I also realised that they changed their breakfast options. I also found it slightly weird that a coffee was not included in the breakfast, only a glass of juice.

Very affordable, definitely not getting anything close to this price in such a convenient area. The beds were comfortable - decent mattress and nice duvet. Good location - easy to walk to major sites but also good cafes and spots nearby, perfect if you want to visit Jamesons. Looked at the breakfast buffet before deciding to pay for it, it didn't look great so we opted out, not worth 10 Euro - there is a great spot we had breakfast sandwiches at right next door called Mad Yolks with delicious sammies for the same price.

Cleaning could be done better, there was dust all over the vents and when we opened the curtain it brushed it and put gross dust all over our stuff. The floors were clearly just once over mopped/vacuumed as there was a lot of dirt/dust build up in the corners or at the legs of furniture - my socks were filthy the second I put them on and walked around the room. Being a hostel it was very loud and busy in the common areas. Glad they provided sheets and bedding but it would have been nice if they put the sheets on, hard to put your own sheets on a bunk bed. Also was not aware we had to "rent" towels which added to the expense, also would have been nice if there was a hand towel or paper towel in the washroom, or a bath mat as the floor was very slick. They asked me to do online check in to streamline our process and said I could scan a QR code to get my key but when we arrived the receptionist just made me do it all over again which took quite a while and at 12am it was kind of irritating, we just wanted to go to bed.

Location, just near the Jameson Distillery. City center in walkable distance. Plug-ins in the bed were convenient.

We just spent one night there, as it was one of the cheapest options in Dublin. Well, it’s a hostel with it’s ups and downs. The beds were small and uncomfy, the toilet was hard to flush.

No space to put bags, get rid of the chairs in the rooms.

People were friendly and location very handy for Heuston station, which was handy as it turned out the Luas doesn't start till quite late on Sunday morning.

No curtain for the bunks which could be a problem in a mixed room, you definitely need to be sure and bring some comfortable night clothes to sleep in.

Very conveient, although generally a young persons playground it was very responsive to all age groups, Im 63 and felt very welcome. Great value

The first thing, upon walking in the front door the cleaning spray hit me and smelt like puke, I could barely breathe the air, I wish they could learn to use cleaning vinigar and borax, much friendlier and healthier for travelers and the cleaning lady who was coughing her little heart out.

The staff was very helpfull and friendly. The breakfast was good and the whole bar and social area has a great vibe.

Changing floors for women and men bathrooms and the constant yelling of students at night that run though the corridors.

I liked that it was close to the venue I was visiting. The bar and breakfast was enjoyable.

There was trash in my drawer to put my clothing for the few weeks I was staying. It was very loud at night. I am not a light sleeper so I was able to sleep. I also was surprised that the room I booked was a 6 bed room. I would have thought a small suite was a room of 4. Therefore, be careful when you book.

I chose this accommodation as it was a few steps from the Lighthouse Cinema, where I was attending the Japanese Film Festival. I booked a bed in a female-only 4 bed dorm with attached bathroom. When I arrived I was given a bunk in a mixed dorm, though I didn't find out till later. Fortunately when I went back to reception they were able to find me a space in a female only dorm. So checking in was more stressful than I had hoped for.

I hadn't understood that the attached bathroom was just one room containing a toilet, shower and sink. So when any occupant went in to brush teeth or whatever, and locked the door behind her, no-one else could use the facilities. It was not as convenient as I'd expected.

We could book a private room just for us.

One night young girls from a school class loudly ran along the corridors. On Friday night there was a loud party at the lobby until 2 o’clock so that we couldn’t sleep.

Clean and safe inside with en-suite bathroom.

The area felt quite unsafe with shady characters hanging out in the street outside the hostel.

My sleeping was not comfortable because 0f other travellers coming into the room and going out anytime, smashing the door, open and closing their lockers inshort there is a lot of noise when sleeping at night 🌙.

I didn't like the loud music all the time.

Functional and just fine. Staff very. Worst problem the cleanliness. Bed sheets dirty and stained what appeared to be blood stains on walls next to 2 beds. Disappointing as the bar area is great as is the location

The Generator is a great, affordable location for a visit to Dublin. The hostel has a comfortable lounge and bar area and it's in a nice part of the city.

Unfortunately, when sharing a dorm room with strangers, you don't know who you'll be staying with. I had the misfortune to share my dorm room with a man who snored like a Godzilla sized warthog all night long. This isn't Generator's fault, but in future I will be bringing heavy duty earplugs.

Front-desk Staff was very rude and seemed annoyed or inconvenienced when we went up to front desk to check-in or ask for supplies

Love the location. Was able to take a bus from the airport. The hostel is close enough to the bus stop making it super easy and cheap to get around.

I didn’t like the breakfast. It was super plain.

checking into the generator was simple and the staff was very friendly and helpful

The place itself was great, the bar area was reasonably priced and good quality, the pool tables etc were a good touch.

The room was dirty when we got in, there were onions stuck to the wall, there was blood on the ceiling above one of the bunks, the fact that we had to pay for even a hand towel wasn’t brilliant. I thought a hand towel could have been provided, as unless we paid we had no way of drying our hands or face when washing.

Location and condition is very good

Checkin process was ridiculous despite doing pre check in online. Took far too long and passports were required. Also the price has skyrocketed in recent years. It would have been cheaper for us to stay in a hotel and the rooms for groups of 6 were tiny

Generator Dublin had all the basics you could need plus a large social area. I liked that everything was explained clearly in regards to the facilities and rooms.

The large groups of young adults/ teenagers that tried to fight the security staff while we were at the location.

Price and facilities on offer. We had an overnight in Dublin where cost was our main priority. Booked a private room for 4 of us. We arrived at 9.30pm and left at 6am. Perfect for our needs. Lockers for storing bags during the day while sightseeing, next to a Tesco metro and main bus route for airport.

No towels in room (I didn't read the small print) option to rent though. Our corridor was slightly noisy with other guests but ear plugs on offer for €1.

Stayed in a 8 bed dorm with 7 of us so was great for socialising and planning for the day. Fantastic location with lots of food and shops around it.

The Building Is close to the city center and well connected to public transportation stops. There are a lot of activities that can be done at the hostel, the staff Is friendly and matresses are comfortable

The overall cleanliness Is not so good, the first room provided was so noisy (near the hall with high volume music, people slamming doors, etc.) that we felt unconfortable to sleep in and we asked to swap for another room (staff was kind and apologized for It and they agreed to our request, I have appreciated that). Rooms are lacking shelves/tables to hold any small object that you commonly take out from your pockets/luggages/backpack. Even the toilet does not have shelves to hold any item (e.g. toothbrush, personal belongings)

Really good location, value is actually quite good for Dublin and for the facilities. A lot to do downstairs

In a hostel much depends on your roommates for the night. Some were good, some not.

Very convenient place to stay in Dublin.

The only downside is that it can be very noisy after midnight with people in and out slamming doors all the time. Also the bathroom was a bit scary - random drunk people puking in showers and leaving a mess.

I like the vibe and the room was spacious with a large comfortable bed. Loved all the amenities available in the building. They also had discounts codes available for some activities in the city.

The bathroom in our bedroom needed to be cleaned better. There was grim in places, I am tall so I got to see that it wasn’t thoroughly cleaned. We had an en-suite bathroom so can’t imagine the communal.

The location is great and the place has a nice bar with events happening.

The pillows are very uncomfortable and the rooms don’t have a bathroom so in my case for example I had to go to a different floor to access the girl’s bathroom which is very inconvenient specially if you wanna go in the middle of the night

the fact that check in is at 2pm (in my case was a bit more delayed which is fine) but check out is at 10am which makes it a 20 hour cycle which isn’t the best but for the price it’s good.

Property great ….. just unfortunately had bad sleep due to snorers and sleep talkers - chance you take in share hostel !!

The location is central, close to the city centre, a lots of essential shops cross the road, parking available near by not expensive. The staff is excellent, 24H available and very helpful and kind. Good entertainment facilities and breakfast buffet at a reasonable price.

The beds were not made and at night was very noisy after 2am.
