Hotel The Lumen, Dallas

Decent size room. Pet friendly.

The fridge had a lock and key, and it didn't shut all the way unless you slam it. No microwave. There's a balcony facing a really bad looking complex. We weren't sure if it was some sort of halway house or what, but it was bad looking. Weird being across from the college at that. The toilet base was really loose, and it made you feel like we would fall off if you didn't sit slowly and just right. Valet only in the smallest of lots. Not worth the price.

The restaurant is nice and waitstaff were great. Food was great!

Front desk was indifferent and not at all welcoming. The hotel is a weak attempt at updating an older facility. The AC blows directly on head of bed and smells musty. We had to sleep with heads at the foot. Considering its an expensive room, it should have been much nicer or at least accommodating.

Staff work harder on making the stay special. At checkin they were on the phone and not busy with us.

It was under construction - things were dripping - room very noisy and over a dumpster. Short staffed. Elevator a mess. Just not the level it used to be. We Asked for microwave and they brought one and just sat it on the desk 🙁 the fridge didn’t cool. Had to ask for luggage racks. Rooms should be inspected once a week to make sure things are working properly.

We have been staying at this property and it’s been going downhill every year.

The location near SMU and Highland Park can’t be beat. Everything is very walkable and the neighborhood is quiet.

For the cost per night the towels, bed and ambiance were not as expected. Noice from pool area too late in the night. Outdated decor and carpets dirty.

The location is nice if your kid goes to SMU.

The "suite" that I paid for had wet carpet the entire stay and resembled a Soviet era prison. This place needs some serious work.

miss-informed about services at check in. No safe in room until requested. poor room servicing, had to chase replacement coffee, milk, sugar, and no tea. hotel information on in-room TV stated bar/ restaurant open until 23:00 seven days a week but we were turned away at 21:03 on Sunday and informed by front desk that there had been a change in policy. still people enjoying the bar 20 mins later when I went to front desk to complain. restaurant not available for hotel guests on Sunday as private party had booked it. overall very, very disappointed with the stay. will not repeat.

every time I left my room I got locked out and had to go to the front desk for a new key. I booked this hotel because of its proximity to SMU and because it had a restaurant on site. The restaurant was closed for a private event on one of the nights. when I asked the front desk about a restaurant that was close by because it was dark and I was walking they recommended snacks at 7-11.

Hotel was good, staff was friendly, it was clean. I would recommend anyone stopping here to go to the bar. Staff were always happy to serve and loved a good conversation with you.

I can’t really comment as I was only here for one night as a stop over.

this website does not state that if you select a room with a balcony you will be given a room with a door leading outside to a rail. no way to get outside. plus my room was a handicapped room even tho they tried to tell me it wasn’t. definitely changed my reservation and stayed somewhere else the next day. btw valet drivers need a driving lesson cause the way he drove one persons car i would of cursed him out for doing that in my car

The staff was wonderful. Especially the front desk and valet.

There was too many downsides to overlook to find anything we actually liked about our stay.

1. Valet is NOT OPTIONAL. You will be required to valet your car and pay $30 a night to do so. This hotel listing is very deceiving and makes valet sound optional. There is no other parking options. 2. Rooms are NOT cleaned properly. After pulling back out sheets we found A FRUIT SNACK in the bed, meaning the sheets were not cleaned or switched. Absolutely unacceptable! 3. Down stairs tavern is very overpriced. 4. We got charged for two $5 bottles of water from the room that we did not touch! 5. The elevator did not work the entire time we were there. 6. This place is supposedly an “updated motel” claiming to be luxurious. It isn’t. It’s scummy and the walls are thing.

Guss at the front desk was super nice, we appreciated his inviting attitude, the valet workers were super nice as well.

The lady that initially checked us in was very unpleasant and seemed annoyed. The staff at the Front Room Tavern seemed unhappy with their jobs.

Loved the location. Staff was awesome, very attentive.

Ac in room was loud. This was fixed by some rigging on our part. Noticed some sugar ants during our stay....kind of annoying but the weather was probably to blame.

A lot of noise in the room, not coming from my AC but another loud motor somewhere in the building. Asked several times but nothing was done about it. I also had a few ants, one was on my back during the night.

Our room had no windows - the shower floor was Soo slippery - it was scary to take a shower. No place to put razor or anything. The carpet had a stain where a dog had wet. I could go on and on. Just extremely disappointing and we had to pay the same price as a good room here.

Location is great.

I booked 2 rooms. My room reservation was fine, but the front desk person could not locate our 2nd room... after 15 min, the staff member was able to locate it, but before locating it, he did not have a solution other than for me to find a different hotel. The 2nd room was for my staff who was en route to the hotel at the time. Unneeded stress.

There was a horrible smell coming from our bathroom. Seems there may have been a sewage issue. The valet parking attendant when we arrived was not friendly.

Front desk lady was very unhelpful. Felt like because my husband is a blue collar man, and not obviously and overtly wealthy, she decided we didn't belong there and she was going to inconvenience us in anyway she could. From giving us incorrect info on parking, to telling us the incorrect location of the ice machine, on top of just a really unwelcoming attitude. Very lack luster room for price point. Bathroom and shower become dangerously slick after use. Will not be back.
