Steel House Hostel, Copenhagen

Perfect location, nice facilities and friendly staff.

I had a 10-hour stopover in Copenhagen and wanted to stay the night in the city, not at the airport. The hotel's perfect location, near the downtown train station, made it easy and quick to commute from the airport to the city. The hotel facilities are good.

The location and facility

A bit dirty and there is no sandals in room

Good location not so far from central station .Easy to access anywhere. Has lovely lake beside the hotel. Self check in was easy.

The location very nice, very clean and well organized. They even have a parking in a garage with a cheaper price than the one outside.

The rooms are small, there is no room for shoes or coats in the entrance, other than that everything was great

Brilliant location close to Vesterport Station and Central Station. Very quiet considering it is a hostel....very little sound could be heard from the room. The atmosphere downstairs was lovely with a real mixture of ages ....I had no problem feeling comfortable as a 70 year old woman travelling alone. The luggage storage in the basement was great and reasonable for the facility. It is good value considering the location.

The room was extremely small, I had expected that but nowhere to hang anything or even put anything apart from the window sill. The bed was built between 2 walls so difficult to manoeuvre if slightly unfit or elderly!

Kitchen to be paid, with a lot of improvement to do in terms of cleanness, organisation, arrangements and utensils.

Bedrooms were well designed and there was a variety of extra experiences.

Mattress was saggy. Would have been nice to have some privacy curtains and more usb plugs. The leather pouch seemed worn. pool was basic, small and cold and you had to pay extra for an additional Towel. Tv room remote was broken and couldn’t connect. Couldn’t access the kitchen without paying, so no chance to borrow a fork or spoon.

No space either side of the bed (literally a wall right up against both sides), not an issue if mobile but climbing across a double bed to get to the light switch is a pain

Staff was really nice and the position is convenient

You have to close an eye on A LOT. Toilet and shower are separate and doors are not soundproof, like at all, there's a gap between it and the wall of course. If people are walking in front of it, it feels like they're in the room with you. Every comfort has been stripped from the price paid so to be sold to you for a second time. You have to bring your own lock for the lockers in the room and a normal gym/baggage lock will be useless.

Very good price for location! We were 4 people and booked a 4 bed dorm for one night. It’s very small but it’s fine for one night. We loved the lobby area where we can seat, eat, drink, play Yatzee..

You have to pay to use the kitchen, you have to pay to use the swimming pool, you have to pay to use the gym.. those details were not announced clearly prior to booking.

Pool water was too cold, they only make beds after 4 days in bunk beds room and also you have to use same towel for 4 days otherwise u have to pay. There were no curtains on bed so bit issue with privacy in mix dorm

Very good value for money, facilities are great for families, as well as all generations. Location was perfect for touring Copenhagen on our 4 day visit. Staff very friendly and overall setting has a great feeling to it.

Could do with a couple of shelves on walls in 4 bed dorm room.

Conveniently located near Copenhagen Central Railway Station & Tivoli Gardens, Steel House is a great base for travellers. A great vibe in the communal area(s) & staff were great throughout our stay. Our shower was super hot & powerful too - really beneficial after the -9 temperatures we experienced in December in Copenhagen!

We knew our “private room” would be compact when we booked the room - but we didn’t realise how compact!! The room was very small, with zero space/allocation to hang clothing. As we were only there for 3-nights, we managed living out of our suitcases. House-keeping only clean the rooms every fourth night too so, again, cleanliness could have been better. Ultimately, you get what you pay for & Steel House is, certainly, a “no frills” affair.

Location is very nice. same size bed for one-sixth of the rate - 20 EUR. I stayed in an Imperial hotel owned by the same group one night before, charging 120 EUR per night, where I had the same size bed.

Staff can be more friendly.

The location, the bar, facilities were very good. Live music on our final night was a real treat.

You had to pay to use all the facilities such as the gym, kitchen, pool. I would have thought this would be included in the price. I appreciate they all need maintenance etc

Super modern hostel right in the action of Copenhagen city. Very nice spot to stay!

There are no curtains on the bunk beds; so no privacy. It's also annoying when some needs to use the bathroom at night where the light then disturbs everyone because they are highly exposed with no bunk bed curtains.

The location was great, the staff were so kind and friendly. People were cooking so nice dishes on Christmas day. The bed was comfy, the bathroom and toilet were clean.

The room's floor, stairs and edge of the bed were full of dust (didn't seem like vacuumed). There was rubbish left in the bin, it was full. The shower door caught and couldn't open some time.

Poor soundproofing and seal of the toilet, because toilet room would not close completely. Motion sensor that turns on the light does not work with a person taking a shower, so while showering the light always goes off. A lot of the advertised amenities like pool are for additional charge. The advertised breakfast is super basic and is NOT worth taking, better find an alternative.

1.- The bed is clean and comfortable. There are personal lockers for guests (guests need to bring their own padlock). The shared bathroom and toilet inside the room are separate, making it convenient for up to six people to use them alternately (you may occasionally need to wait). The bathroom provides body wash and a hairdryer. 2.- The elevator requires a key card to access the upper floors, ensuring safety. 3.- This is a relatively large hostel. The ground-floor common area offers plenty of seating and provides free drinking water and a kettle. Public facilities are well-equipped (for a fee), and the elevator and ground floor display a weekly activity schedule. There is a bar and snack area next to the reception, selling drinks and light meals. The communal kitchen is spacious, fully equipped, and cleaned daily. 4.- The hostel is located near a lake and is also close to supermarkets and the train station. 5.- The staff were friendly and proactive in assisting when I had difficulties using the coin-operated laundry or luggage storage machines. When I asked about the flavors of different beers, the bar staff were also very enthusiastic and took the time to explain and recommend them. 6.-The ground-floor bar is a convenient place to enjoy drinks, and indoor common areas remain comfortable and well-managed. Guests who prefer to drink their own alcohol can do so in the outdoor street areas.

(1) The beds do not have curtains to block light. The room corridor is narrow, with limited space for luggage or hanging clothes. There is a small space behind the door suitable for hanging a few jackets (guests need to bring their own hangers), but there are no rails or hooks at the bed itself. (2) The bathroom and toilet doors do not close completely, leaving a small gap. The doors are not fully opaque, so shadows inside are visible at night, which can be awkward in mixed-gender rooms. (3) The towel racks are located directly opposite the toilet. If someone leaves the toilet lid open, water may splash onto the towels, which is unhygienic. It would be better to place towel racks outside the bathroom and toilet areas. However, given the narrow corridor, the best solution might be to install hooks next to each bed. (4) Using the communal kitchen requires a one-time fee (20 DKK per stay). Luggage storage before check-in and after check-out is charged by time (25 DKK/3 hrs; 40 DKK/6 hrs; 60 DKK/24 hrs) and is self-operated in the basement, accepting credit cards only and without printed receipts. Washing and drying machines cost 20 DKK each and require coins, which can be exchanged at reception. (5) During self check-in, the system initially assigned me to a room shared with only one male guest. After confirming that no additional guests were expected that night, I requested to be moved to a room with other female guests. The staff made a genuine effort to assist and successfully relocated me to another mixed dorm, for which I was very grateful. However, from the second night onward, the six-bed dorm accommodated only one female guest (myself) and five male guests until the final night, when another female guest arrived. A more balanced gender distribution in mixed-gender dorms, when possible, would help enhance guests’ comfort and sense of safety.

The capsule beds are a great concept but I felt like I almost fell trying to get up and down many times, slippery steps and scary - not great handles to hold on.

Big building fully made as dorms and small rooms, perfect for young people to stay, there are many attractions, pool, games, events etc.

staff was little bit not welcoming, it felt like they were doing me a favor.

The location is great and the place is overall really clean and social but not overly!

Nice and friendly staff, helpful - i encountered a situation when i was charged twice by mistake but i was contacted by a responsible person soon and got refundation very fast. Good communication and service - the staff is very keen on helping you to recommend good spots, atractions or historical sites in the city. Gym and swimming pool available (25dkk). Cozy atmosphere in the lobby - also bar with snacks and drinks avaliable for those who need. Great location near the main train station - connection to the airport etc. Clean. Kitchen area avaliable. Eco-friendly - waste recycling system. Free drinking water available! 👍

The scam! The hostel’s system got hacked, and I consistently got reached out from scammers for at least 5 times in Whatsapp. Pretty annoying

The possibilities to play (dart, billiard, board games etc.), do sports (kids loved the pool), to cook (great kitchen!) or just chill and meet new people

There was very little space in the room to put the luggage - a table of some sort would be nice even though there are plenty downstairs in the lobby area. The pillow was too soft, but that’s personal preference.

Great facilities including a clean well equipped kitchen,, helpful informative staff and friendly vibe, right on the lake.

The in-room lockers were not the best, they stuck quite often, difficult to lock, you need to bring a very specific padlock size that would work with these lockers.(which you can also buy from them) I have used lockers with tap card mechanism in some hostels and compared to that, this falls short.

Clean toilet, bunk beds spacious, .mattress and pillow very comfortable. nice common area on ground floor to chill.

Hook on toilet a bit small to hang towel, need to ensure it balances nicely so towel do not drop. Hairdryer was the fixed kind and did not dry hair properly as it will get too hot. Area near room locker quite squeezy. Light sensor in room which was annoying when trying to shower or pack as light will go off shortly
