The building itself is a Midcentury Modern masterpiece completed in 1971. It holds a legendary status as the very last office building designed by the pioneering architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe before he passed away.
Because of its deep architectural roots, the hotel features some incredibly thoughtful design choices. The ground-floor reception lobby was actually designed by Mies’s own grandson, architect Dirk Lohan. He carefully preserved the original travertine walls and granite floors, even outfitting the space with custom-made couches based on a furniture blueprint Mies originally created for his daughter in the 1940s.
Beyond its design pedigree, the property packs plenty of unique perks. It was the first hotel in the world to open inside a Mies van der Rohe building, and it features an airy pavilion dedicated entirely to the brand’s signature British afternoon tea service. The rooms themselves boast massive floor-to-ceiling windows with dramatic views of the river and the city skyline.
Location-wise, you are just steps away from the high-end shopping along the Magnificent Mile. A short stroll across the river brings you directly to Millennium Park to see the famous Cloud Gate sculpture (affectionately known as “The Bean”), while the world-class Art Institute of Chicago sits just a bit further down the road.

Best hotel I have stayed at so far in Chicago!
Customer service is amazing! We stayed for my daughter’s birthday. They went out of their way to make the stay special for us by having a birthday balloon and bear in the room for her upon arrival and champagne for the adults to celebrate! The hotel is located near many of the most attractive Chicago spots, has great views and the staff is always helpful and accommodating. Rooms are always clean and well stocked!

Favorite hotel in Chicago!
The room was comfortable & clean. The shower was amazing. I appreciated all the nice touches & attention to detail.
We were on the club floor. It was so amazing & the food was so fantastic we never wanted to leave the hotel.

Outstanding. Truly a wonderful time.
We loved the room upstairs for the club access. It was so fun and the staff was incredible. The fitness room and spa were next level and incredible experiences! Highly, highly recommend!
The key cards were having issues working which made it a little difficult to get into the club and rooms at first.

Amazing weekend with friends in lovely accomodations.
Had an amazing champagne tea when we first arrived. Bar experience was great. Used the peloton in the fitness room - appreciated you had those there!

Always a wonderful stay!
The staff at check in were polite and helpful as well as the bellmen and the other staff we encountered in the hotel. Our room was spotlessly clean, the beds were plush and comfortable. The restaurant was good, we ate in the bar. The food was good.
The wait staff in the bar was not very attentive. There were very few people when we first showed up, but it took a long time to get waited on. We wanted another drink and our waitress never showed up. We had to ask another waiter to get it for us. Not what we were expecting in such a nice hotel.

Beautiful rooms and friendly staff!
The room was perfect with an incredible view. I used the suite to get ready for my wedding and the staff brought chairs or makeup, tables for food, a microwave/fridge. They were very accommodating for us!
My suite was not ready at the check-in time of 3 PM. This was very inconvenient for me as I used this room as my bridal suite during my wedding weekend.
