Built in 1905, the building originally served as the Szénásy stationery factory, where notebooks and drawing compasses were produced. For nearly half a century, the majority of Hungarian students learned to read, write, and count using materials made right inside these walls.
During World War II, the building earned a profound place in history. It operated as a secret site where protective passports were produced and issued by the Swedish diplomatic delegation to shield threatened Jews from persecution.
Today, the property operates as a vibrant living art gallery rather than a traditional hotel. Instead of uniform hotel decor, local artists transformed all 60 rooms into individual canvases, filling them with custom paintings, installations, and distinct graphic elements.
The architectural layout still honors its industrial past. The original underground supply storage has been converted into the hotel’s modern breakfast room, while the spacious first-floor suites sit exactly where the factory’s main workshops and the owner’s private apartment once stood.

Very clean, excellent breakfast, good location - very close to vaci, the water bottle provided every morning, very helpful staff, actually we liked everything in this hotel.

Lovely hotel in great area near the river and travel hubs.
Fantastic location, great service and lovely breakfast! Large comfy room. Bottled water every day.
Only thing was plastic shower floor was slippy.

Nice city break!
I liked the interaction with the front desk, helpful and on topic. Room was checked and cleaned daily (towels, bed made, free water given every day).Check-in and check out took 2 min each. Location grate, very close to Danube and to shopping street, old Market and Aldi, restaurants. Loved the tips provided by hotel for experiencing Budapest as a local.
No downsides, we did not serve breakfast so I can not advice on that, the room we had had an inner court view but anyway, unless it's front line of Danube you won't get a view....buildings are high.

Clean,Central, Good Breakfast. Stylish .
The breakfast choice was ample. Something for everyone. Freshly squeezed OJ was delicious & I really liked the fact I could make my own strength of instant coffee, not a fan of coffee machines. The staff were attentive and courteous. I have already recommended this hotel to others. The rooms have everything you need, from good heating/air conditioning. The rooms are spotlessly clean with mini bar/fridge/kettle & tea/coffee, not forgetting the complimentary water by your bed, this was appreciated.
I would like to have a choice to go and sit in the hotel bar and have a drink rather than stay in the room and use a mini bar, although it was good to have one. I know there are many bars and restaurants within close proximity but it just seems odd that this hotel doesn’t have a bar for its guests, even a small one. This is missed and others have said so too. I have stayed here several times, I do like it as it ticks a lot of my boxes. However, one thing that did disappoint was, I genuinely didn’t realise I had booked a twin as I was in a rush when I made the booking. After seeing my room I revisited reception to enquire whether I could switch to a double bed, my request was met with a stern “ That is the room you booked “ - no offer to pay a supplement to change. This lack of empathy made me not want to pursue satisfaction with this staff member.

Good location and great breakfast
Very good breakfast. Wide selection of quality breakfast items which were regularly replenished. Everywhere very clean and well maintained. Good location- very quiet but only one street back from main shopping street with restaurants on it.
Room was small. Bathroom lovely, but shower water flow was weak.

Great location to enjoy a wonderful city
The location was excellent. Good size room, great choice at breakfast.
It was a little cold in the room our bed was twin beds pushed together not a double and the duvets single not double so there was an issue there for us but some may have been ok with it.
