Expert reviews

Frommers review:

“In a quiet, residential area slightly out of the center, lies this chic hideaway, just across the street from a chunk of a 2nd-century Gallo-Roman arena. Back in the 18th century these buildings made up a postal relay; today the golden limestone facade hides a collection of comfortable, modern rooms with polished wood floors, contemporary furniture, and luscious colors on the walls.”

Fodors review:

“Northwest of the city center, the street-front door of this inconspicuous boutique hotel opens onto a quiet courtyard that once served as a relay stable for carriages and today provides a welcome respite for modern travelers seeking urban tranquility.”

Lonely Planet review:

“You’d expect to find a sumptuous 18th-century château with a conifer-flanked courtyard and stable house in the countryside, but this stunning maison d’hôte hidden behind a high stone wall is right in the middle of the city. It is part of the prestigious Châteaux & Hotels Collection, with sumptuous rooms to match.”

Best moderate hotel that I stayed at on my recent jaunt to EU

Friendliness and resourcefulness of staff; size of the room; very quiet room; breakfast was good; en-suite coffee maker; great shower

La Maison appeared to be slightly out of the way from central Bordeaux (on the order of a mile) and the better restaurants. Although, I'm thoroughly ignorant of better locations. I walked miles from the site to see La Bourse, the famous bridge and the shopping district. Fact is that I came for Cassoulet (an exquisite stew my wife used to make) and was told by one and all that I should have gone to Toulouse.

Lovely bedroom, nicely organised, with a good size terrace. Breakfast was very good, staff were very helpful, and they have a secure, bookable car park space 2 mins away.

Very enjoyable and staff very helpful.

Boutique fusion of old and new. Quality fittings and furnishings.

No spirits available. Small foyer with no real space to chill out at indoors.

Great location, next to the old Roman amphitheater ruins of old Burdigala. The staff were amongst the friendliest I have experienced, nothing was too much trouble. Would whole heartedly recommend, and look forward to going back myself. A great Bordeaux base.

Amazing place that we definitely will come back to.

We loved this place so much. The staff was excellent, a massive shout out to Isabella. She organized our two-day stay in 15 minutes. She helped us with food reservations, and both restaurants were splendid. We really wanted to visit the chateau but didn’t pre-book anything, and on such short notice, she sorted the reservation out. Because of her, our whole trip to Bordeaux worked out well, and we will remember it forever. The hotel was very clean and tidy. The location is amazing, a 10-minute walk to the city center. I really do not have a single complaint about the place. A massive thank you, and we will come back.

There is nothing that I didn’t like about the property.

Fabulous

Lovely hotel, super friendly staff, room was lovely with great bathroom and shower. This hotel is great value for money in Bordeaux, if a little bit off the beaten trap, but its only two tram stops away from the centre

Management should better inform guests of the nearest tram stop and what line to get prior to their arrival from airport, hotel was difficult to find as my connection to Google maps was down when I arrived.and no taxis were available Breakfast could be improved, hot options are poor,, a 4 star hotel should serve freshly squeezed orange juice however the coffee and fresh bread were very good

Really lovely modern hotel in an old picturesque building. Great attentive staff who gave wonderful suggestions for places to eat and visit. Room was beautiful. Easy walk into town but still quiet at night.

Bed was just a bit too soft for our liking

Disappointing lack of food suppliers locally. I terminated my holiday and returned home.

Clean, pleasant hotel. Excellent staff. Very friendly and helpful.

Many hotels these days do not have dining rooms. This was the case here, but also there were no restaurants or shops locally to buy food. After two days in the hotel, I was hungry and decided to leave.

Great hotel although a little way from the Old Town.

The room was a good size and comfortable. Breakfast on site is quite sufficient and staff are quite helpful.

The location is a good 10min walk to the tramway. Felt a bit out of the way from the Old Town and shopping strip etc.

Lovely boutique hotel in Bordeaux

We booked the classic double room and the size was good with a nice comfortable bed. The room had a great shower with nice products from Nuxe! We appreciated that housekeeping made our bed for us as well. The breakfast buffet was also great value for the price! The nice lady who checked us in was also so friendly! Great service all in all.

It really was a perfect stay for a weekend in Bordeaux but maybe one small thing is that it’s not really close to the city center. It’s about a 20min walk, which we didn’t really mind but some travelers might prefer to be closer to the center.

A beaut oasis in central Bordeaux

This is a lovely place to use when visiting central Bordeaux. Freshly renovated with spacious room, good wifi, lighting, wide and comfortable bed. Parking is nearby in a secure garage (extra). The front desk staff especially Susan was so helpful with transport advice; restaurant advice; etc. perfect English. Good restaurants nearby especially the Vietnamese ones. Tram a short walk as is the central shopping district around the Theatre.

It’s not cheap but the quality is evident.
