Located right on the Gran Vía in the Eixample district, this gorgeous five-star boutique hotel is housed inside a landmark 19th-century neoclassical pavilion. Built originally in 1879 by architect Elies Rogent, it served for decades as the grand headquarters of the Catalan Association of Cotton Manufacturers during the city’s booming textile golden age.
When it came time to transform the building, the property was handed over to acclaimed interior designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán. He completely reimagined the spaces into a sophisticated, atmosphere-heavy retreat. Rosa-Violán beautifully bridged the old and new by retaining original elements like stunning ceiling frescoes, intricate parquet floors, and the majestic marble staircase, all while layering in fresh, contemporary styling.
One of the most jaw-dropping architectural marvels inside is the famous 1957 spiral staircase. It is a true engineering masterpiece that doesn’t actually touch the ground below—it is entirely suspended from a metal frame on the upper floor, giving it a weightless, floating look.
The hotel constantly nods to its past in fun, tactile ways. You’ll find fresh cotton flowers scattered throughout, and the hotel’s custom-designed ambient scent mimics the sweet smell of the plant. There is even a vintage-style library where you can relax, and a unique in-house atelier space where guests can order bespoke, tailormade garments from one of Barcelona’s most prestigious tailors.
