Generator Hostel, Amsterdam

The property is very nice, in the middle of the park and the old building has a lot of character. Nice common rooms and decent acomodation.

Because they made triple bunk beds the high inside your bad is limited, for me that im a big person was a little uncomfortable. Also the food at the cafeteria was a little expensive for the quality.

nice vibe at the hostel. beds were comfortable. everything was clean. nice location in the park.

staff could've been a little nicer. but no complaints about their service.

Bed was very comfortable and the dorm was a nice set up with the locker system.

Sheets were stained and there was some crusty stuff on the wall by the bed.

I was annoyed that i had to pay extra for them to keep my big luggage and the fact that i had to buy a lock for the box in the room. I feel like these should be included

Great vibe, super friendly staff, room and bed were very comfortable. Hostel is well located, easy access to city centre. This hostel was way above my expectations, highly recommended!

The price for renting a towel was a bit too high (€7) , but it's still good you can change it every day if needed.

The room was clean. The hostel is in a nice area with a park all around. The structure it's not in the city centre but not to far, you can reach it with a tram in 10 minutes.

The room is very small to fit 6 people, the breakfast didn't have the greatest assortment of food but for an hostel I guess it was good enough.

Stayed in the pod, this was a nice experience and better than the typical hostel bunk bed situation.

Was a little pricey for the location and what was offered, plus the showers were pretty dirty.

Lovely staff. Toilets are clean enough. Beds are okay, pillows less so. Nice chill spots to hang out in.

Maze of doors / stairs to get to the left wing 4-bedroom room. Got stuck with two people who got really high and wouldn't stop making noise until 2am, then snored loudly for the rest of the night.

All-time availability at the reception. Breakfast was good. The location and surroundings were perfect, and the environment was energetic due to the young people around. It's a hostel and good for a student or single-person point of view.

As said it's a hostel and good for a student or single person point of view but not the same with the family person and specially elderly people. Everything was chargeable even if I ask for a cup of hot water (1 Euro for a cup) to take the medicine. The towel should come in a basic facility for the guests but it's chargeable (7 Euro).

The beds were comfy and the rooms were clean. All the staff were super nice too. We stayed in a 6-bed dorm and it was great! All the people we met were super lovely as well. The location was good, it was a short tram ride into the centre and you can just pay with your bank card on all public transport so it was easy. The hostel backs right onto a park too so it was great to be able to walk around/ chill on the grass in the afternoons.

The food at the hostel restaurant was hit and miss, and they closed the kitchen a few times during their lunch hours. This would've been fine except there's no kitchen or even small appliances like a kettle for making your own cheap dinners. If the kitchen was closed we either had to eat from the vending machine or walk 15-20mins to the closest cafe. Just not ideal for a hostel to expect everyone to pay 15-20€ for every meal, it kind of goes against why people stay in hostels. Even just a kettle would've been really nice! The auditorium space was cool but it didn't feel like there was enough furniture to chill out on, so the options were to either stay in your dorm or sit at the restaurant which was a bit awkward. The outdoor furniture was cool, but only really used as a smoking area. The club that is advertised on Instagram is also closed. We stayed for 6 nights, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and it didn't open at all.

Had a brilliant stay at the Generator. It was in such a fantastic location and the kids loved staying there. The building and facilities are amazing & the staff are very friendly.

Super friendly staff, easy check in and out. Very comfy beds with enough privacy. Great location just on the edge of a parc, within a 30 minute walk to the city centre.

The staff was helpful and friendly The location was nice on the park and close to the tram and a train station. Common areas and the Ping pong table, but the place of it should be changed and the close time should be later. The toilet, shower and sink in the dorm are separated so that's a time saver. Plugs, light and curtains on the beds are a nice thing. Outside seating is great, you can enjoy it all day and the park at night.

Dorms feels like prisons, 2 triple bunk beds in a room that not even 3 people can be standing. The bed on top is really dangerous to go up and down. Poor maintenance, the sink was stuck, the luggage boxes down the beds were really badly located and uncomfortable to use, also that their lids just fall down and can get your fingers hurt.

No toilet facility apart from the room. They should organise communal activities where people can get to know each other.

Lady on reception told us to wait 10 minutes to sit down and then she’d help us check in, we were waiting for her to call us over and instead she served people and there was a long queue waiting to check in. I just checked myself in on the iPad I saw was available

The hotel in a wonderful position, you are in the middle of the park but still close to the city centre It’s 30 min walk to the canals Everyone in the staff is young and friendly And the inside of the hotel is beautiful

There is not a way to have the room cleaned daily and we didn’t expect this so we found it a little bit unconventional and they didn’t change towels from night to night, in case you wanted a clean towel you had to pay I know it is good for the environment but the towels could not become dry in one night so that’s just the only complain we have
