Generator Hostel, Amsterdam

Having the pods made a hostel experience more achievable for me as a solo traveler as I really appreciated the privacy. The communal areas were nice and there was a good atmosphere generally.

The pods are really difficult to get in and out of gracefully! I did not have a padlock for the lockers - luckily I only had a small bag that I could put in the corner of the pod but for future visitors bring a padlock and your own towel. It would have been useful to have a small area to prepare your own food (just a kettle/hot tap or microwave)

I stayed in the pods for 5 nights, I don’t recommend staying in a pod for that long. Really uncomfortable after the second night. The mattress is pretty much a mat which after 5 nights your back is in a lot of pain. The pod was extremely loud?? The AC from the adjacent pods vibrates to your own pod. B15 pod was beyond loud staying inside it. The communal bathroom was also a little let down. Every shower drain is blocked so after 2-3 minutes the shower fills up with water and it’s over your ankles. Very unhealthy as it’s a communal environment. This needs to be fixed. The toilets, Not bad. I think they could be cleaned 1-2 times extra a day for the amount of people who use them. Oh and bring a padlock to use the lockers for your luggage, A small small suitcase lock won’t be sufficient it needs to be that extra bit longer so if you can bring one from home as they charge you 7.50 euro

The property is very well thought out. The facilities in every room are some of the best I’ve seen in a hostel. It’s very clean and the self check-in/out was very handy.

My ONLY complaint is that the wifi was extremely slow. I had a couple calls to take and had to purchase a SIM card because of how slow the internet was. Even loading videos was impossible. This was the only thing stopping me from giving this property a 10.

Great location in a park! Quiet, beautiful, 40 min walking to the railway station (there is a tram nearby also). The hostel is big and full of people, so it is possible to meet new people from all around the world. Good breakfast, kind staff

Everything is extra pay. As the price on booking.com is not low, I didn't expect it. Even not a bar of soap in the room 😂 A towel - 6 euro rent, a shampoo - 3 euro, a pad pock for a locker - 7 euro, etc.

Great atmosphere

There’s a noisy washing machine on the 3rd floor that keeps on during the whole night. At least a had ear plugs to reduce the noise.

The pods was clean and the chilling zone was really cool the breakfast was good too.

the showers in -1 were flooded. And to much light in the pods. The wall on the back of the pods produce too much light and it was hard to fall asleep.

Great atmosphere and quiet

Nice place to stay, right next to a great park (with birds and ducks). The vibe of the old University is interesting. The room was nice and quiet, with private shower, toilet and sink. The bar/restaurant is ideal if you want to drink/eat without going out. The buffet breakfast is available, nothing fancy but good to start the day. Close to the tram to reach the city center easily.

It was perfect place for my family and myself. Good price for the space, quite area, and close to public transportation.

The toilets could be allround cleaner,.....the inner rim etc. Two guys that were snorring Loud, so those people can rather book a single room if they know they have that. And the fresh pillows and sheets could be rather put on the bed instead of in the locker under the bed,..a ..The pillow case was already around the pillow in the locker...yet people maybe also put shoes from the Amsterdam streets in the locker or their travelers bags. Rather keep the pillow and sheets fresh! :)

AIR CONDITIONING DID NOT WORK, IN SHOWERS WATER DOESNT GOES UP CORRECTLY, SO BATHROOM WAS FULL OF WATER

Very friendly atmosphere, lots of different places to do work or hang out. My capsule was the comfiest bed I’d had in ages. I’d visited in 2017 and loved the location, and it’s even cooler now since Oosterpark was redeveloped

A lot of the doors downstairs look like push doors but are actually pull doors

Feels very safe and atmosphere is welcoming. Everything was fresh and clean and I was helped quickly with any problems

We enjoyed how clean the property was, and how our group of 5 was able to stay together without any additional people in the room.

A little difficult to find right away, could use more signs to tell people where to go. The front desk people didn’t seem happy to help us. And also it would be nice if we didn’t have to pay for towels as long as we returned them.

Breakfast was very good. The vibe, the atmosphere in the restaurant was pleasant. Clean. No surprises, everything like advertised. The room was usefull, we didn't need more.

The room was small and with minimum furniture, but that was expected from pictures and square footage.

they charged 10 euro per day for a breakfast that was not worth 10 euro per day, maybe 5-6
