Generator Hostel, Amsterdam

I stayed with my family in an ensuite room. The beds were comfortable and enabled us to tolerate the noise coming from the upper floors. The service was consistent with our expectations. In general we were happy with the service.

There were just chicken ham, cheese, tomato, cucumber in the open buffet breakfast and wasn't as good as last year. The options were under my expectation, at least when I compare it with the last year.

Our booked place was not ready even after check-in time, we were asked to wait about an hour, but we had some free drinks

Hostel was in a stunning park in near enough to the city centre. Room was clean and modern and the Wifi was fast! Towels were available at reception which saved my friends. 24 hour check in also makes it stress free for late night travellers.

I liked the environment, everything was very well signposted, clean and organized.

I slept in a pod. The entrance and exit doors to that room are quite noisy. Maybe it's something simple to fix. But overall the experience was great!

candy wrappers on my shelf from previous guest, very stuffy in the room, very little space, air conditioning can't cope, small windows available only for those who sleep on the 3. shelf. Almost no ventilation, very uncomfortable to sleep. It was 6-bed room.

Clean great little room, with curtains for each bed which gave privacy and also dark lighting for better sleep. The bed was comfy. My room had a shower room and a toilet room separately which worked great. Functional storage space below the bunk beds. Great location next to the park. Nice cafe (although I didn't really have food there), with a nice balcony with a view to the park.

One had to pay for towels and lockers, which I think given that the price was not low for a hostel could have been included. Other than that everything was fine.

common areas where you can spend time, even outside with tables. hostel overlooking the park, this aspect is very welcome. Clean and with lift.

It was lovely with everything I needed and was in the Oosterpark which was nice to walk around in each afternoon/evening.

Although check-in was advertised and agreed on at 2pm, the room was not available until 4pm.

It was clean.

The parking is too expensive. The room is quite small for 4 people and the lockers were loud and unpractical.

The hotel’s location, surrounded by trees, was great. It had also a good vibe. It was very close to Alexanderplein tram station and a canal. The staff was very friendly.

It was a big surprise that towels were not included in the room rate (neither body towels nor hand towels). When we asked at the front desk, they told us we had to rent them for €7 each. I mean, it’s their choice, but it wasn’t clearly stated at the time we booked the room.

Very nice central, but it's in the park so you can talk a nice walk any time. Close to everything basically. I was on 3rd floor of the bed, I liked it because it had more privacy.

I forgot my jacket in the room, I asked 3 times the girl at reception desk to check it there. She said that cleaning lady probably put it separately. 15-20 minutes passed from my life waiting for nothing 😁 Luckily I become friends with one of my roommate, now ex-roommate and I asked him to check my jacket and of course it was still there. I mean how could the cleaning lady know, whose jacket is there? Like, there are people in the room still and there are multiple jackets. Bathroom is small, but ok for the price. No fridge to store food.

Breakfast really good. Room was also very good. Small bathroom but was worth it.

The coffee machine wasn’t working very well and the guy from the bar was a bit rude to help on that part.

The hostel is a lovely old building with modern comforts. Staff were kind (Especially the Irish guy!) Its located at the edge of a nice park, not too far from the city centre

My 6 bed dorm room was very cramped. The bunks are 3 beds high so the're quite high, some people would find it challenging to climb in and out of

The location, the staff, the atmosphere and vibe and jt was clean.

Too little space for six people in one room, towels were available only by additional fee.

The location is great - a walking distance from downtown. The breakfast was very good and for a better price when ordered in andvace during registration on the hotel website. I travelled with a family of 5 and booked the 6 bed room for the night. Kids were happy to sleep on the bunk beds with 3 levels. The room was high enough to accomodate such sleeping arrangement.

Have no negative experiences to share.

Because the hostel is in the park, the environment is nice, both quiet and possible to walk in the park.

The hostel has nothing, no drinking water, no supplies in the shower, no communal kitchen, really just a place to sleep

The hotel is ideally located inside a park and close to transportation. The room was small and with the extremely basic amenities but it was fairly prices based on the location and the general cost of hotel rooms in amsterdam.

Although we had an ensuite room, the hotel is more of a guesthouse for students/young people. As a result, there was noise 24/7 making it difficult to sleep. The soundproofing is not good.

I really enjoyed my time here, the beds were comfortable and the room had big windows with views to the park. All the staff we're very nice and helpful. One thing to notice is the fact that they have a room for rental lockers so you can put your bags and still explore the city with ease. The location is not extremely central but they have bikes to rental, and many transports just a quick walk away, but if you like walking in 15/20 min you're in the center

I would like to suggest just that the rooms could be a bit more clean

Just the size of the pillow too big and may be the space in the rooms is too narrow.

Perfect location, near the park and 15 mins to downtown. A lot of facilities in the Hostel. All recommends.

It is located in a park, easy access to the tram and had a number of restaurant within a 10 minute walk.

I requested a lower bunk due to my knee problem but didn’t get it. I reiterated my request a day before, paid for it I was told at the counter when I checked in that they don’t have any available. So I have to settle for a middle bunk.

Amazing location, really nice place in Amsterdam not far from the old town. The building is very new and stylish itself, amazing view from the room to the park. It was clean, quiet and the internet was fast :)

Breakfast was okay but the buffet didn’t have diverse range of products, wish there were some hot dishes as well.

The room and the bathroom were spacious and the view was amazing. The common areas of the hostel were pretty cool. There was a tram station just outside the park.

So you had to pay extra to get towels, as there were non in the room. Also the park where the hostel is located is infested with rats. The hostel itself is very clean but when you step your foot out, you find rats jumping around.

We had aircon problems with our room, our room was boiling and made it hard to sleep and enjoy our stay. We swapped rooms on the third night, there wasn’t any free before this, and this was much better, the staff tried their best to accommodate and were very friendly though.

Had very good facilities including locker storage for leaving your luggage before checking in. (I had 2 backpacks)

The pods, the bathrooms are right in front of the elevators , and the bar, could use a divider or something.

There is no towel in the bed linen set. I don't think it is good business for Generator to charge extra for a towel. Before check-in I was sent a lot of formal messages that were just distracting. However, when I checked into the room my place was taken. Less formalism - more simple attention to guests. Overall - good rating.

The private toilet, Shower, and sink was separated behind different doors which is amazing when you're staying 4 people in the same room, different people can get ready at the same time. Clean room.

Not all the reception staff were well prepared. They booked a taxi to the airport for us, telling us it would cost between €45 and €50, but we ended up paying €82! A kettle would be useful.

There were too many people around because it is a hostel. Breakfast took too long because there were no mugs or other dishes. The bathroom needs some proper cleaning, mold in the shower(

Lamp and fan in room were slightly broken although still working. Staff were helpful in getting them fixed

I stayed at Generator and absolutely loved it! I’m a solo female traveler from Brazil and felt really welcomed. The accommodations are clean and comfortable — I stayed in a mixed dorm with 5 other people and it was totally fine. The staff is super friendly and helpful, and the vibe of the place is great. There’s a bar, common areas to hang out, bikes for rent right outside, and even a little techno party for when you want to go out but stay close. The only thing to note is that the hostel is about a 10-minute bike ride from the city center, and it’s located in the middle of a park with no lighting at night. It’s safe and quiet, but the dark path might feel a bit uncomfortable if you’re walking back alone. Other than that, I had an amazing stay and would definitely come back!

Great checkin functionality we had to checkin late and there were no issues. good location and evrything was clean

The bed was 3 tiered while getting on top bunk bed there was nothing to hold on to which made it a bit scary to get on and off the bed

The kitchen for dinner closes a bit early, but I guess it's Dutch hours.
