Generator Hostel, Amsterdam

I loved the curtains, private bathrooms and the amenities like the auditorium and overall building! Staff were lovely and I will defiantly book again (this is the second time I’ve been to this hostel)

Always a gamble - my roommates were inconsiderate and untidy - but the hostel in general was amazing

The place and the facility

The location is very nicely located in a park, the room was clean and comfortable for short stay. Staffs were very friendly and there is a cafe in the ground floor.

The room was quite small despite being very neat, and there were not many facilities such as kettles, fridge. When we were there, the check-in were delayed for a few minutes (we were on time for the check in)

The location was excellent...in a park and easily accessible to public transport.

I am 67. If your system can allot lower bunk beds it will be great. I got middle bunker, it was little difficult to climb. I should have reserved. But if you are considerate, then it's a bonus.

Fantastic location.

Rooms are super cramped. Not even a tiny stool to sit and put on your shoes. Basics such as bathmat missing.

Easy to get to from the city centre with public transportation. The staff was really nice.

We had a problem with the sink, and told the staff about this several times without it being fixed. Theyy also didn’t come to take out the trash until the day before us leaving. They didn’t clean the sink, which ended up really dirty due to the water not draining normally.

The rooms were quite well organised and comfortable. The location is also easily accessible. And the staff and other guests were friendly too! I like it very much overall!

The breakfast was one of the worst I have ever had. The only thing I can complain about is the breakfast. Taste-wise and variety of food, it was unsatisfying.

Cleanliness and size of the room

few basic things like floor mat , towels and a table and few chairs would go a long way to make it very good

Good friendly staff, wide beds, hot water. Location very convenient with several transportation stops and a large park right in front of the main entrance where we could relax and enjoy the sunshine

It was a little dusty in the room and the window could not be opened for ventilation. Another shelf by the hand basin would be useful for cosmetics

-parking just outside - extraordinary wiew over the park (we stayed at 3rd floor) - cute room , large bed and a nice clean bathroom. -friendly service minded staff - dog friendly hotell

- we used the pre check in and was suppsed to just pick up our keey card in a machine in order to save time. We spent 10 minutes at the machine , wich didnt work and than we had to wait in a line for 25 minutes. Caotic! -expensive parking 35 euro / night (maybe this is standard in Amsterdam 🤔) - expensive extra charge for our dog , 25 euro / night. Normally we pay 12-15 euros while bringing him to a hotell. - no food in the resturant when we were going for dinner , just pizza.

Location in a quiet park. Community facilities.

Dirty dishes on breakfast. Breakfast was poor in general. Many scheduled events were cancelled.

No toilets with sinks. People swapping beds in their room which is just so inconvenient late at night. Downstairs toilets were flooded. A tiny bit dusty. I’ve been to 3 different generators across eu.

It was slightly outside of the main city in terms of monuments/tourist attractions if you plan on walking, but given it’s Amsterdam trying out the cycle lanes wasn’t that big an issue

The sleeping pod was great. Good calm neighbourhood. Easy to reach the city with tram. Park next to the hostel was nice.

I did not like the plastic cover sheet in the mattress.

Great location, in a park and has a small cafe to sit back and enjoy a coffee looking at the green. There are some activities like table tennis and pool and I saw parties being advertised although I didnt attend any.

The top bunk bed is too high and it was difficult to make my own bed after picking all the bedding from the locker underneath the bottom one, carry it on the ladder, balancing and putting it all in place. Going up and down the bunk was a stress factor for me even though I am not afraid of heights. If you have accessibility needs or carry extra body weight make sure you request a bottom bed. The locker drawers are exactly underneath the ladder which resulted in me accidentally stepping on it and slipping. If some one has left the drawer open (and they do) it's a trip hazard. Also food choices were limited. I arrived at 22.00 and the bar had closed so I couldn't get any food or drinks except from the vending machine which wasnt working at first.

The staff was not friendly in the first day

I am an early riser and the cafe was always dirty and tables sticky, floors dirty.

Great location, everything is well-organised, efficient and convenient. Staff were very helpful. We travelled in a group of 5 and were able to stay in the same room (with 6 beds) which was great. I am not a fan of triple bunk beds and it was a little tight in space, but we only stayed for one night. It's very safe with key card access at multiple doors up to the room. Great to have individual lights, curtains and plugs at each bed.

shower doors did not close properly (or not easily) so the space in the shower room outside the shower cubicle was a huge puddle.

The place is safe, good security control, the bed ,bathroom, shower are clean, the bunk beds are sturdy.

The third bunk beds is too high, climbing up and down the stairs could be a challenge sometimes In general room mates at a hostel determine whether you get a comfortable experience or not, on the hostels behalf thay are good.

There was a mistake at check in but was sorted in 30 minutes

I stayed with my family in an ensuite room. The beds were comfortable and enabled us to tolerate the noise coming from the upper floors. The service was consistent with our expectations. In general we were happy with the service.

There were just chicken ham, cheese, tomato, cucumber in the open buffet breakfast and wasn't as good as last year. The options were under my expectation, at least when I compare it with the last year.

Our booked place was not ready even after check-in time, we were asked to wait about an hour, but we had some free drinks

Hostel was in a stunning park in near enough to the city centre. Room was clean and modern and the Wifi was fast! Towels were available at reception which saved my friends. 24 hour check in also makes it stress free for late night travellers.

I liked the environment, everything was very well signposted, clean and organized.

I slept in a pod. The entrance and exit doors to that room are quite noisy. Maybe it's something simple to fix. But overall the experience was great!

Location, price, stuff

candy wrappers on my shelf from previous guest, very stuffy in the room, very little space, air conditioning can't cope, small windows available only for those who sleep on the 3. shelf. Almost no ventilation, very uncomfortable to sleep. It was 6-bed room.

Clean great little room, with curtains for each bed which gave privacy and also dark lighting for better sleep. The bed was comfy. My room had a shower room and a toilet room separately which worked great. Functional storage space below the bunk beds. Great location next to the park. Nice cafe (although I didn't really have food there), with a nice balcony with a view to the park.

One had to pay for towels and lockers, which I think given that the price was not low for a hostel could have been included. Other than that everything was fine.

common areas where you can spend time, even outside with tables. hostel overlooking the park, this aspect is very welcome. Clean and with lift.

Everything ok

It was lovely with everything I needed and was in the Oosterpark which was nice to walk around in each afternoon/evening.

Although check-in was advertised and agreed on at 2pm, the room was not available until 4pm.

The parking is too expensive. The room is quite small for 4 people and the lockers were loud and unpractical.

Cool place in general and got a free upgrade to a deluxe room

The hotel’s location, surrounded by trees, was great. It had also a good vibe. It was very close to Alexanderplein tram station and a canal. The staff was very friendly.

It was a big surprise that towels were not included in the room rate (neither body towels nor hand towels). When we asked at the front desk, they told us we had to rent them for €7 each. I mean, it’s their choice, but it wasn’t clearly stated at the time we booked the room.

Very nice central, but it's in the park so you can talk a nice walk any time. Close to everything basically. I was on 3rd floor of the bed, I liked it because it had more privacy.

I forgot my jacket in the room, I asked 3 times the girl at reception desk to check it there. She said that cleaning lady probably put it separately. 15-20 minutes passed from my life waiting for nothing 😁 Luckily I become friends with one of my roommate, now ex-roommate and I asked him to check my jacket and of course it was still there. I mean how could the cleaning lady know, whose jacket is there? Like, there are people in the room still and there are multiple jackets. Bathroom is small, but ok for the price. No fridge to store food.

Breakfast really good. Room was also very good. Small bathroom but was worth it.

The coffee machine wasn’t working very well and the guy from the bar was a bit rude to help on that part.

The hostel is a lovely old building with modern comforts. Staff were kind (Especially the Irish guy!) Its located at the edge of a nice park, not too far from the city centre

My 6 bed dorm room was very cramped. The bunks are 3 beds high so the're quite high, some people would find it challenging to climb in and out of

The location, the staff, the atmosphere and vibe and jt was clean.

Too little space for six people in one room, towels were available only by additional fee.

The location is great - a walking distance from downtown. The breakfast was very good and for a better price when ordered in andvace during registration on the hotel website. I travelled with a family of 5 and booked the 6 bed room for the night. Kids were happy to sleep on the bunk beds with 3 levels. The room was high enough to accomodate such sleeping arrangement.

Have no negative experiences to share.
